The Known Stranger Part 1
62
It was a cold November night in Delhi. There was a slight drizzle in the air which made the temperature even cooler. Maya had just finished making herself a hot cup of tea. She sat in her balcony and was watching the drizzle. The rains made her remember the events of previous week. Maya had a habit of maintaining a dairy and it was a month since she last updated it.
Diary Entry: November 24, 2010
“My experience with men has never been something to boast about. My past 3 affairs had all ended in tears. I always thought men were caring and understanding towards the women they love, but none of my past affairs proved me right. The work pressure had increased, which prompted me to take a break and hence I decided to take a trip to Shimla.
I always thought bodies communicated well between each other and this assumption was proved correct when I met this man en route to Shimla. He was a man in late 20’s, about my age. He was well built and was nicely dressed. He sat besides me in the bus. His name was Rahul.
As the journey was long and not much to do, I took the initiative and started speaking to him. We spoke about our lives, families and work in general. He spoke like a thorough gentleman and had good manners. I started feeling attracted to him but did not want to show him. The journey became more pleasant. He spoke about his hobbies, his likes, dislikes and his dreams. Somewhere I felt connected to him. Though I was speaking to this man for the first time, I felt a sense of comfort with him. During our conversation, I realized that he had good sense of humour. He had a kind of humour and wit, which woman yearn to have in their man. He was talking to me as we had been friends since ages
He kept on talking as if he suffered from verbal diarrhoea but nevertheless it was fun. He did occasionally apologized for being too talkative and asked me about my life, but I allowed him to talk as it was more enjoyable. He was working in an MNC in Delhi in the marketing department. I was completely immersed in his talks and didn’t realize that we had reached our destination. During that moment I cursed the fact that we had reached Shimla. I somehow enjoyed his talks so much that I didn’t want him to go. I felt that I was behaving like a teenage girl who had suddenly found her dream man. It happened so fast, that I pinched myself if it were real. Emotions are so stupid, they don’t understand logic. My heart had taken over and my head ceased to function. I wanted to tell this man that I wanted to spend my Shimla trip with him but was too afraid to do so. During our talks, Rahul did praise my looks. I knew he was trying to seduce me in the subtle manner, but not for one moment did I feel bad about it. Infact I liked the attention I was getting from him.
I was getting hints as to what he wanted, and I knew I wont be able to resist his moves. This man had walked into my life without taking my permission and I simply loved it.
My thoughts were interrupted when Rahul asked me to come to his hotel to spend some time. I somehow resisted his moves knowing fully that this is what I actually wanted. We exchanged numbers and told him that I would meet him the next day as I was tired because of the travelling.
I reached my hotel room and felt what I did was foolish, but I also thought that one should not be that easily available. Men tend to treat such women without much respect. These are subtle mind games we women always play so that our men respect us and yearn for us.
I spent the entire night thinking about Rahul and how different he was from other men I had in my life before. There was a kind of attraction towards him that I had never felt before. I felt positive vibes emanating from him. He was a perfect man for any woman.
The next day I could not resist myself from calling him. I asked him what time he would be free so that we could meet up. We later decided to meet for dinner at his hotel and later he would drop me back. From that moment I was waiting for 8pm. I took nearly 2 hours to dress up. I reached his hotel by 8pm. The food was all arranged and ready to be served. I smiled and he smiled back. It was strange. We hardly spoke during the course of our dinner and it was as if we both wanted each other and were waiting for the dinner to get over.
The dinner was over and we both looked in each other’s eyes. There was silence in the room but our eyes were speaking. He started approaching me. My body started freezing and I knew I wont be able to resist him. I knew my life was about to change forever. He shut the door held me tight and slowly removed my top and placed a kiss on my lips.
