The Magical World of Fairies
77I do believe in fairies...I do I do I do
Light wings flutter past as you sit quietly staring up at the light blue sky and the rolling white cloud. What could it have been? Was it a fly? Was it a butterfly? Maybe it was just a bee buzzing by? Or could you have just had an encounter with a creature who sadly many do not believe in anymore, the beautiful fantastical creatures known as fairies. Enchanting beautiful human creatures with butterfly wings that enjoy having fun, bathing in small ponds and streams, and only allowing those who truly believe to see them; though even those who believe have yet to see them such as myself.
Fairies are creatures that are still around, helping people with wishes and causing trouble to those who show them no respect. I watched a great documentary on fairies that live in Scotland, the documentary movie being called The Fairy Faith. I truly enjoyed this movie and I do recommend it to those who wish to see those who have the fairy vision; meaning that they can see the fairies. One woman believer even told the story about how a traveling man in Scotland had passed by this small pond like area where he spied fairies laughing and bathing within the cool water. The man gasped as he watched the naked fairy maiden, startling the young fairies and they quickly vanish from sight, the man asking them to come back. The man began to walk away, disappointed that the fairies had not returned to only be stopped by an old woman. The old woman was in fact the Queen of the Fairies and he told that man that he had embarrassed her people and because of this he will be blind for the rest of his life. No sooner did she utter these words, the man did in fact become blind and he lived the rest of his life blind. Fairies are beautiful creatures but if disrespected in any way there will be a huge price to pay.
Some of the many things that deal with fairies

Fairies are also friends with Wiccan or Pagans who work side by side with fairies at times when they cast spells; fairies being a great magical friend to help with the spell to go the right way. They are also the focal point of many artists; writers (though not as many anymore sadly), and painters being the most interested in these creatures as well as other creatures such as elves and mermaids. One of my favorite artists who create the most beautiful fairies, dragons, mermaids, Merfairy, and other creatures is Amy Brown. The way she captures the fairies is memorable and exquisite; breathing into them her own life force to show her beautiful nature within her art. Writer’s and author’s do their best to capture these creatures and bring them back into life, myself one of these hopeful authors who wish to bring back the beauty of fairies to the young at heart, the believers, and even to the nonbelievers. I know that my books will be classified as fantasy fiction but knowing that they may one day be on the shelves, ready to be picked up by book lovers everywhere, and read, breathing life into the fairies in a way.
Not only are fairies human but they are also different animals, such as horses, cats, dogs, etc. Animals that have wings and keep the fairies company just as our pets keep us company. There are also those fairies who have one parent who is a mermaid and one parent a fairy, thus being half mermaid and half fairy, also known as merfairies.
A pet peeve of mine that is very common these days is calling an angel a fairy and a fairy an angel. The way you can tell the difference is fairies contain butterfly wings and angels are creatures that have feathered wings. Please don't make the same mistake. Angels=feathered wings; Fairies=Butterfly wings!
Do you believe in fairies? I have heard their beating wings and have seen something in the corner of my eye that I believe to be a fairy but I have yet to fully see them or talk to them. I do hope to see them one day and I hope to do them homage by creating masterpieces involving them within my stories that will hopefully one day become published books.

thanks Scott. I hope that I can write children's books some day...but for now it's only more adult fiction because my mind cannot explain things simply only in more detail, a child not being able to understand. :)
crazdwriter, I really enjoyed this hub, would really like to check out the documentary you mentioned. I have a friend who has a "fairy patch" in her yard, she leaves one corner of her garden completely undisturbed and lets whatever that grows there to just grow, so the fairies have their own spot.
I also like the fairy art of illustrators of the 30's and 40's like Margaret Tarrant and Ida Outhwaite.
thanks for another great hub!
My favorite has always been Tinker Bell! Loved this Hub. Thanks, Kimberly
Oh I loved this. I like fairies and their delicate magic.
very nice hub thanks
I always remeber when I was young the famous story of two girls who were pictured playing with faries. I used to think they were at the bottom of my garden too. It was just a question of finding them. I never did and the fairy pictures were found to be fake. Hey I still like to think they are real but maybe in other forms. Great hub you do have a nice style.
I am so glad you straightened out that faerie/angel - angel/faerie thing. I was so confused!
lol Jess anytime anytime hahah
And very cool helen. I like your friend
thanks Lgail, gemsong, lyrics and elisa :-)
Thanks for that mention of The Fairy Faith - excellent tip!
I was just going to comment on my love for the artwork of Brian Froud - his Faeries Oracle is brilliant - when I checked out the documentary and saw it has his artwork on the cover. I do love these coincidences - often feel like more than just chance.
I live in Scoltand and just had a fantastic job (I'm an actess) exploring woods in the Trossachs with a Celtic faery theme in mind, for which we were asked to do some research. (Just writing some hubs to do with this, if anyone is interested.) I will certainly see if I can afford The Fairy Faith to add to my research.
Uh-oh: long comment, sorry! Anyway, I also wanted to ask about the heading you use: "Fairies are friends to all until you disrespect them". This connects with the story about the blinding, just above the heading, but I was expecting more on the mischief of faeries, and even the down-right nasty nature of some - or do you not follow this line in your writings?
A book I love is Holly Black's "Tithe", which explores faeries in the older tradition, with nastier elements. It is however very romantic, and written for teens, so there may yet be a niche for your more complex ideas there.
All the best!
Love this hub. I do believe in fairies. I do, I do, I do believe in fairies and angels and nymphs and more!
Thanks Dainelle for the book title i'll have to seriously look that one up. Sounds REALLY interesting! And to answer your question yes I have heard that there are nastier elements that fairies have done to humans but that one was in the movie so I posted about that. Don't want to scare ppl too much...fairies can be dangerous and VERY mischievous but they are also very beautiful and loving when respected.
And I so want to visit Scotland!

Watch Hellboy 2 and you'll never disrespect the tooth fairy again that's for sure. I see you writing some children's books one day girlie, and as a tip Publishing Children's books is a very high paying keyword set..Hint Hint!!
