Buying and Up-grading a Home
63At a time when real-estate was booming and the value of almost any property was going up ten thousand dollars a month. Time was running short, if I was ever going to be able to afford a place of my own and become a home owner. About three years ago, as a young man without any real estate knowledge, I was now ready to get in on the action. Nothing turned out as I thought it would, as buying a home has it's challenges. After moving in I discovered a new love for construction and interior design.
Buying a place in a booming market is not an easy task, for your average person. Thanks to my realtor, finding a property was no problem at all; in fact since there was practically nothing on the market my options were simple. Then my realtor told me about an apartment building being turned into condos that was not even on the market yet. This is where my troubles began, but it turned into an excellent leaning tool as my understanding and knowledge grew.
The new owners of the building were not so eager to sell just yet but my realtor was very persistent to get me a deal. As the days turned into weeks I was on the edge of me seat to get a settled price. I had no idea it could be that stressful to make an offer. Then the day came when they finely signed and we made a deal! I picked my unit on the top floor of the small three story building, and it is slightly bigger then the rest with the best location in the building. When I saw the unit it was not even close to being finished yet, but I saw the potential it had, and envisioned it with my own personal make over.
I will never forget the first day I took possession of the property; it was such an exciting experience. From the first day I took the keys, I was on a mission for a makeover and spent many hours in home improvement. After moving in some of the furniture I had picked out, and without unpacking any boxes I started painting every wall and base board in the house. I changed out all the facets and light fixtures. Added and changed out the shelving. Then I learned how to tile, and started adding tile. I even added some counter space in the kitchen. I really do enjoy working on my home; I hope you enjoy the pictures!
