The Many Types of Tapes
66Types of Tapes
The need for various types of tapes
What do you think of when you hear the word tapes? Do you think of music? Do you think of repairing? Do you think of recording?
There are many different types and styles of tapes. First, lets look at the tapes that contain music.
These are called cassette tapes. They were widely popular before the CD craze. Even now, they are still pretty popular. Many automobiles will contain both a CD player and a tape player. Why?
Maybe it is because we don't want to give up our youth. Maybe it is because cassette tapes are easy to carry and if you have a tape recorder, a lot easier for some to copy.
Yes, you can still buy cassette tapes at many music stores and even some department stores. They come in all genres of music and even some books have been recorded onto cassette tapes, for those who have no time to read.
When you think of recording do you think of tapes? There are several different sizes of tapes that can be used for recording media and sound.
Some doctors and business people still use small recorders that record on tapes of all sizes to record notes and lists. Then most of the time a transcriber is hired to put those notes and recordings onto paper for them for future use.
What about answering machines? Are there still working answering machines that record messages onto small tapes? Of course, there are.
One reason some people do not want to give up this type of way of recording messages is the fact that they can keep the tape and play it again (as needed). This is both beneficial in the business world and nice for our home world to save those special or important messages.
Now we should think a bit about the different types of tape that is used in repairing. Did you immediately think about the very popular and diverse duct tape.
Everyone knows that a home isn't a home without a roll of duct tape lying around somewhere. It can be used for a number of different purposes such as:
A quick fix to repair a broken headlight on your automobile
Tape rugs in place
Repair crack windows
Repair a book binding
Repair hoses
To cover cuts (if no band aids are available)
Repair upholstery
Hold batteries in a remote control if you lost the cover
Yet, duct tape isn't the only type of tape you should have in your home.
Electrical tape is also very important. It is used primarily when installing electric things such as ceiling fans and lights. It can replace wire nuts if you don't have them on hand or can be used with the nuts.
Yet, electrical tape can also be used if you find a small tear in an electric cord (replace as soon as you can). Many people also like using electrical tape when installing antenna boosters to help protect those outside plugs from getting wet.
You also are probably aware of the fact that electrical tape is used when repairing many of the electrical components of our automobiles, etc.
Is there any other type of tape a homeowner should keep on hand? Yes, you can't forget to have plumber's tape handy. This is used when threading such things as shower heads onto shower fixtures and faucet fixtures. It makes the threading easier and it gives the fixture an added protection from corrosion due to our water.
If you ever plan on doing any carpeting to your home, you also should buy some carpet tape. It is used when one piece of carpet meets another piece. It can be used alone or with a steamer. It can also be used to keep rugs in place.
Finally, you must have some sort of adhesive tape such as transparent tape on hand. This is used for a number of uses such as taping pieces of paper together, taping up opened potato chip bags, wrapping presents, hanging notes to a variety of fixtures, scrap booking projects, etc.
Of course, there are many more types of tapes you can buy. We have so many different kinds because we live busy lives and we have many uses for them.
