Regular brushing is important to your hair. Not only is it important to your hair, but it is also important for your scalp. Brushing removes all the dirt accumulated during the day and also improves blood flow to the head which in turn, improves the growth of hair. That is why finding the right kind of brush is important, and the right kind of brush is a good brush. A good brush lasts a lifetime. A Mason Pearson brush lasts a lifetime. And because it lasts for so long, it even comes with its own cleaning brush!

Invented in England in 1885, the brush has withstood the test of time with its good quality and durability. Many users of the brush have remained loyal to the brand despite the surge of different kinds of brushes for different kinds of hair. It is a testament to the good design of the brush that it has a loyal following. Hollywood hairstylists swear by this brush and use no other because it holds up to the rigors of styling with blow dryers and hair straighteners. Fashion magazines like Vogue, InStyle, and Cosmo have always recommended this brush to its readers.

The Mason Pearson brush is not massively produced. In fact, the brush is still handmade in England in Old Bond Street, the heart of fashionable London. The bristles, called boar bristles, help spread the natural oil sebum, found in the base glands of our hair, while brushing. It naturally gives a nice sheen and strengthens the hair while you brush your hair.

Invented by Mason Pearson, an engineer-inventor from Yorkshire, England, he first joined a brushmaking firm called the British Steam Brush Works and invented a machine to speed up the process of making brushes. Because of his invention, he was later awarded the silver medal in the International Inventions Exhibition in London in 1885. He later on also invented the “pneumatic” rubber cushions which are still used in the brushes today. Much of the rubber cushion requires human handling which is why the brushes are not mass produced. During his time, he produced four sizes: large extra, small extra, popular, and junior. All four sizes are still in circulation to this day.

At present there are three kinds of brushes, all in different sizes. The first of the range has the Boar Bristles which is good for fine or thin hair. The second in the range is Boar Bristle and Nylon combination which is good for normal and coarse hair and is medium to long in length. And lastly, the Nylon brush is good for thick and unruly hair.

A Mason Pearson brush is the kind of brush that once you’ve tried; you will never go back to any kind of generic brush. It is that good. It is the perfect gift to give anybody- a child, men, women; they’ll all appreciate it once they’ve given those bristles a test run.
