The Majesty and Might of Meekness
There has always been a certain majesty in Christian meekness. The splendor of it is revealed in its eternal nature. God has always mentored those with a meek spirit; it has always been true, past, present or future. The writer of Psalms brings this clearly to focus.
Psalms 25:9 KJV Bible: The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
This is what I mean by the might and majesty of meekness. There is a world view that meekness and weakness are the same. The Christian view is that meekness is the might that will one day inherit the earth!
Psa 37:11 KJV Bible: But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Mat 5:5 KJV Bible: Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Mankind and womankind have always been consumed with outward adornment; we desire to be more attractive to find a mate or otherwise portray some social attraction. What to wear, what color to paint ourselves, what gold or silver trinket will we embellish our faces, feet or bellies? However, modesty is the Christ-like make-up that embraces all the virtues of being the child of God. Meekness is the very majesty which is most akin to the Spirit of Christ Himself! God promises that He will guide and teach the meek in His way.
The Meekness of Christ
Definition of Meekness
However, what is meekness? After reading several dictionaries in preparation for this hub, I find the best definition for me, in this context, is a mildness of temper and a cultivation of an attitude that is not easily provoked; meekness also carries with it forbearance through injuries.
Meekness is a most difficult attribute to achieve, and I confess that I struggle with it daily. About the time I think I have it, I find I’ve lost it. I am like my daughter when she was a baby. She found an ice cube on the kitchen floor and tried to pick it up. We laughed and laughed! Meekness and pride are incompatible; if I pick meekness up, I become proud and lose it!
On the other hand, I find meekness primary to every Christian virtue. I cannot think of one asset in Jesus which does not hinge on Christ-like meekness. Any praiseworthy thing I have diminishes with the assertion of self. It is water on the fire; it is a basket over my light; it is counterproductive to all I hold dear in Christ Jesus. I cannot think of one example where this is not true!

Meekness is primary to my prayer life! I muse at the way some people feel they can order God in their prayers.
Zephaniah 2:3 KJV Bible Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: ...
Meekness and effective prayer are inseparable. If a friend comes to you and demands you to do something for him, you would get angry; if he came and sought your help, you would go to your limit for him. Think about it!
Meekness is primary for my growth in Christ. We have too many 50 year old babies in Christ because they have never learned to be humble! The ways of our LORD are often opposite to our natural ways. If you want to step up, you often have to take a step down; if you want to win the wars of life, you must learn to surrender, surrender to God, if you want to be lifted up, you must learn to bow low.
John 13:12-15 KJV Bible So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? (13) Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. (14) If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. (15) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
He who is above all could bow low to wash His servants’
feet. This is real power; it is an illustration of the might
of meekness. It does not demand, it
serves! Meekness is mighty because it serves!
Meekness is primary for Christ’s promises to me! He promises never to leave, but to always guide me! However, if He leads, I must be willing to follow! When I go my way and not his, I am on my own. When I practice Christly meekness, I follow Him and become His disciple. What is better than guidance?
