The Mighty Boosh-Coming to America

My Introduction to The Mighty Boosh
In May 2006, I and my 13 year old daughter went to England for a one week vacation to spend time with the man who is now my husband. He was a gracious host and took us all over the English countryside which has become the source of many great memories, and great hubs, for me. On this particular trip, we stayed in five different hotels and you'll want to read my hub about some of the wacky hotel experiences we had as well.
One night while winding down in our hotel room, my husband popped a DVD into his laptop. He wanted to introduce my daughter and I to The Mighty Boosh, a British comedy that he is quite fond of.
I had never heard of The Mighty Boosh. Heck, didn't even know what a boosh was, or why a mighty one would be any different than an ordinary one. I now know.
The episode he chose to watch was "The Nightmare of Milky Joe". I have to admit, I actually fell asleep about halfway through it. It wasn't because I didn't find it entertaining, I was just tired from the day's activities. The next day, my husband and daughter would randomly blurt out lines from the episode. My daughter has an uncanny knack for memorizing lines from movies or lyrics to songs. My husband had them memorized from the many times he's watched the episode. I felt a little left out and was really pleased when my daughter asked him to play it again the following evening. This time I was able to see the entire episode. I did find it funny, and certainly unlike anything I could compare it to in America. I could see why they both enjoyed the banter they were able to create from pieces of the script. I soon caught myself blurting out movie lines too.
Christmas Gifts & Hubby Moves to America
When Christmas came in 2006, I had managed to find Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and purchased them for our region so that we could watch them here in Texas anytime we wanted. My daughter fell in love with so many of them.
By the time my husband arrived in American in early 2007, she had memorized tons of lines and watching episodes again became a great source of entertainment for the three of us.
My daughter began sharing the shows with all her friends until they too, were memorizing lines. I think my daughter got a little annoyed as her friends began exposing other people to the Boosh (via YouTube) and they lost sight of who started it all.

Although Adult Swim’s schedule is mostly made up of animated shows, its sensibility lies along the spectrum of cartoonish behavior. And "The Mighty Boosh," in the opinion of Adult Swim executives, fell on that spectrum. - The Mighty Boosh Stoops to Conquer America | Underwire | Wired.com
Whenever a British comedy series jumps the pond to a U.S. network, there's always concern over how it'll play to an American audience.

Lillies Bordello sure was the place to be last Friday night as hoards of both home-grown and international celebrities flocked to the VIP venue for the Kasabian after party. Top guests on the night included Noel Fielding and a rather patriotic David Guest... Maybe he got a rub of the shamrock?

They are quite different Peggy, but a lot of fun. I think America will either love them or hate them. Thanks for stopping by Peggy! I thought of you earlier actually as I was finishing up on Google Earth hub where I was looking at a place you had written about in one of your hubs.
Never heard of The Mighty Boosh, KCC. I do love British humor, though. Mr. Bean is my absolute favorite. I will have to check it out. Thanks for the great hub.
Thanks wordscribe! They have a live show too that tours the UK. I'm hoping they do that here eventually.
Thanks for the introduction! I had not heard of The Mighty Boosh, but now I will have to watch some more! LOL, looks like I'm going to have some fun! :D
Mighty Boosh is nuts but very popular in the UK
Thanks Kari, I only know you through some of your writing, but somehow from that little I know about you, I think you'll like them. Give 'em a try and let me know what you think!
Ethel, you are so right about that. I found some front row tickets to a live Mighty Boosh event that I sooooo wanted to buy. They were being sold by a woman in America who couldn't go. I don't remember how much they sold for, but it was a steal. The only thing we had to factor in, of course, was the airfare! Which for two people, added another $1000 to it. Suddenly, it didn't seem like a cheap event. LOL I still would have loved going. We've at least seen the live show on DVD now though.
Thanks for stopping by ladies!
I'm not a fan of British humor, but I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Mr.Bean, he cracks me up everytime!
British humor is quite different than American humor, that's for sure! I hated it when I was younger and my dad watched "The Monty Python" on the one PBS station we had. I enjoyed Benny Hill. I know who Mr. Bean is, but I never saw the movie. Marrying an Englishman, I have a better appreciation for their sense of humor now.
Thanks for stopping by AsherKade!
Never heard of this one. I am British but have lived in the US a long time. You are certainly right that British humor is very different!
My husband hasn't yet accepted that fact yet, EM. He still doesn't understand why we don't get some of the British stuff. It's just not funny to us or it's so silly we don't find it funny. But, he feels the same about a lot of our stuff...so I guess we're even.
Mighty Boosh is excellent. I live in England and really only go into them about three years ago. My favourite episode is the Old Gregg one. I have to say it's not even THAT popular in the UK.
If you like Boosh though, you should look out for a programme called Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. It's even crazier than Boosh! You'll probably only be able to find it online, I've never seen it on tv in the UK. It has a lot of the same actors in it as in Boosh.
LOL...my daughter likes Old Gregg. I like the Crack Fox episode myself. I was just asking my husband about the show you mentioned and he agreed that in some ways it was better than the Boosh. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
