The Moon, Starfields and You
67
Sometimes when we least expect it, we find magic. Often I am prone to looking up at the moon while wishing there might be someone special who's there wishing too. Perhaps for that one we all want to connect with, or feel a kindred spirit.
About a year ago now, my older sister wanted to see a romance film that was being held across the river in Portland. My memories of Portland have not always been good ones, so at first I was inclined to turn the offer down. But, trying to think of others and not just of myself, I joined her in the ride over to the big city to watch our 'chick flick' at a theater there. It was winter, as the air was crisp and the night sky was a dark shade of midnight blue, with a glimpse of a full moon sometimes peering from behind a black cloud.
It was when the movie was over, I discovered the magic. It was on the cement, sparkling like a star field right before my eyes. The lights softly lit around the outside of the building made it appear as so, reflected there on the ground as we stepped out the doors. I will never forget that night! It felt so free, and exciting. Because I had not expected such a view to feast my eyes on, as the glittering sparkles of specially treated cement stared back up at me. It is one time I don't regret going against my own desires and thinking of someone else's feelings. An unselfish act that reaped a magical surprise.
I have written a poem for a special friend, as he too has brought out the same effect on me. In bestowing the hand of friendship, his act of kindness is worth more than most words can express.
Magic Nights
I climbed upon the moon one night
to see what I could see
when in the distant star field
you reached out to me.
You crossed so many miles,
jumping planets too
in hopes to finally reach me
just like a friend might do.
Once upon a star field
in a distance far away
I found such hope in you,
a friendship bound to stay.
Perhaps when you are there
as I am often too,
we'll meet again some night
as lovers sometimes do.
This magic in my heart
is brighter than the sun
because I found a friend
who shared with me some fun.
A fantasy of sorts,
you might say is true
cause in the depth of wishing,
it only could be you.
Gently landing in my hand
like a long awaited kiss,
a light just like a star
on a path I wouldn't miss.
