Top 5 Movies Based on Comics
63#5: Sin City
This brilliantly done film with a star-studded cast including Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Clive Owens, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, and many others. The movie is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel and follows the story very closely. Both use a black and white color scheme with a slight use of color for certain parts of the film, like using red to highlight the blood or yellow to help one of the villains stand out amongst the crowd. This brilliant color scheme gives the film a very artistic look. Combined with a brilliant script, this movie was tough to beat.
The film follows the adventures of three troubled heroes as they have the most dangerous night of their lives. Each never actually meets the others, but their actions on that night drastically effect the others, all beginning with a good cop trapped in a very corrupt system standing up for what he believes in, and it ends with each of our heroes killing a part, and in some cases all, of themselves in order to save or avenge those around them.
Currenly, Sin City 2 is in production for release in 2011 with Sin City 3 to be released in 2012.
#4: Spider-Man
Marvel took things to the next level by releasing Spider-Man. This amazing film does a great job of not only explaining the origins of Spider-Man, but it really captures the emotion Stan Lee tried to make his readers feel when they see Uncle Ben die because of Peter's mistake. As the movie progresses, we are able to watch as Peter grows into the man that his uncle always knew he would become.
Along with the development of Peter, we are given a first hand glance at the creation of one of the most dangerous villains in Spider-Man's world...the Green Goblin. Willem Dafoe does an amazing job transforming from the sane and successful Norman Osborn into the crazed Green Goblin, seeking revenge on all those who wronged him. The fight scenes between the Goblin and Spidey are very well choreographed and well performed. If you haven't seen this movie, you better soon because they have already made two sequels and are putting the third into production.
#3: The Incredible Hulk
Marvel had released Hulk in 2003, dissapointing many audiences with its outrageous concepts as they simply attempted to do too much at one time. Fortunately, they released The Incredible Hulk, essentially rewriting the whole Hulk experience. A great performance by Ed Norton as Bruce Banner really shows what the comic concept was all about, a man with an uncontrollable monster inside him trying to purge himself of this demon. He spends the bulk of the movie running, trying to isolate himself from any chance of being provoked and transforming. It takes another man who creates a creature just as deadly, if not more so, to force Banner into redirecting that monster inside him towards a common enemy.
Along with Norton, Tim Roth does a great performance as the power-hungry soldier who turns himself into the Abomination by trying to turn himself into a being capable of defeating the Hulk. The best part of this movie comes when the Hulk takes on the Abomination in an amazing fight sequence. This film was one of the best movies to be released in 2008, easliy working its way to number three on the list.
#2: Batman Begins
One of the most recognizeable and commonly told stories is the origin of Batman. This story takes on yet another twist in the movie Batman Begins as we are given a glimpse into the dark realm of the world that is Batman. The movie showcases the corrupt, criminal side of Gotham City. Citizens live in fear while the rich crime bosses just get richer. Everyone looks to the sky for their hero to come and save them from what lurks the streets at night. Fortunately for them, the greatest symbol for justice is being created just around the bend.
We follow Christian Bale, the newest man to take on the mantle of Batman, as he trains with the most renown fighters of the underworld in prisons across the globe. He returns to gotham and takes on the biggest mob boss in town and fights against Johnathan Crane, the Scarecrow, when the city is thrown into chaos and the citizens are experiencing fear in its purest form.
This movie really captures the darkside of Batman that the comics try to convey to the readers. Christian Bale's wonderful performance really keeps the crowd tuned in.
#1: Iron Man
Only one word could describe this film when it swept the world....Wow! Iron Man was an amazing flick that took marvel comics to the next step by not only finally introducing this iconic character in a live action performance but by also providing some information about the upcoming Avengers movie. It has paved the way for many Marvel team-ups in the future with Robert Downey, Jr.'s brief appearance in The Incredible Hulk offering some aid to General Ross at the end of the movie. Iron Man 2 is quickly approaching and is already set on having an appearance by the Hulk himself.
Iron Man successfully created a new-age hero who uses technology that we all wish was at the tip of our own fingers in his everyday life. His witty personality and womanizing abilities makes every man wish they were Tony Stark and every woman wish to be with him. There is no man on the planet that could have done as beautiful a job as Iron Man than Downey, Jr. This amazing performance made Iron Man the number one film based on a comic.
