I recently stopped at a gas station to fill my tires up with air. An older gentlemen approached me and said I should try putting nitrogen in my tires instead of oxygen. When I first heard what he said , I was thinking this man might be a little crazy but when another man agreed with him I started to actually listen. The next day I made a trip to my local tire shop and I was introduced to the product NitroFill. NitroFill is currently one of the leading brands in the use of nitrogen for tires. There at the shop I was told that many of its customers are starting to use NitroFill and then he gave me a list of benefits on why someone would put nitrogen in their tires.

  Oxygen molecules are much smaller and leak 3 to 4 times faster through the tire.

• Why does the Nitrogen Filled Tire result in better gas mileage? It is already known that properly pumped tires helps in tire resistance, putting nitrogen in the tires help them remain properly inflated.

• How is it safer for the environment? When the car uses less gas per mile it helps to limit that amount of gas leaked into the atmosphere.

After being informed of the benefits I still hesitated to give it a try until I found more information on this product. While researching I found out that aircraft's and race cars have been using this technology for years.

After that startling statement I began to think this might be safe for me to give it a try, but there are alway several negatives to each positive.

Its turns out that he air used in your local gas station for filling tires is 78 percent nitrogen. Meaning that only 22% of O2 is actually in one's tire. 

One should also know that majority of tire leaks occur from improperly inflated tires. Nitrogen provides no fixes for human error.

The claim of the tire lasting longer on the inside is insignificant. It’s the outside of the tire someone should be concerned about. The outside of the tires wears out much quicker than the inside. Another turnoff to using nitrogen is the price. At $10 per tire,nitrogen is much more expensive than the couple of quarters at the gas station. Considering all of the above information I decided to let the Pros stick to Nitrogen as potential benefits remain negligible to the average consumer..
