Where Life Truly Began Again...

The Old Rugged cross on Calvary’s Hillside

Stood there brave & humbly

Reaching out its arms to me

Pleading for me to sit & abide.

Again the cross beckoned me to draw near

Resist no longer could I-

Kneeling at its foot, I did lie

Waiting for its story to hear.

As I gazed upon the carved tree

Wondering why it was nail-driven & blood-stained

And why on this hill, for this long still remained?

Without another pause, the story was told to me.

Nailed on this cross, hung a Savior to die,

Sent down to earth from God’s heaven above,

Because of mercy, truth, & only pure love-

To save sinners like you & I.

Trickling blood, untainted-without sin

Willing was shed from His nail-pierced body

His life given to cover the sin of you & me

The only way you & I could be brought to Him.
