I struggled with those questions for a while. I knew I felt like it was a real business because of the amount of time and dedication I was putting into it, but in reality I was treating my business like a hobby.

There was a missing element in my understanding of running a real business. It's well known that marketing and generating leads are the lifeblood of any home business enterprise. I had no problem understanding that, and I was doing everything I could to get leads... or so I thought.

I really didn't understand what it took to advertise online effectively.

Let me throw out some numbers for you to give you an idea how competitive the network marketing and MLM industry is for online advertisers.

If you're using online advertising such as Google Adwords, you have to pick out keywords to bid on. Each time someone types in those keywords and finds your ad on Google, you pay a certain amount for each time someone clicks on it. The demand for each keyword determines the price.

I researched estimated daily costs for keywords relative to the network marketing industry. In other words, here is what you would be paying EVERYDAY to use these keywords to advertise on Google Adwords:

- "Home Business": $3,320 (or more) per day

- "network marketing: $840 (or more) per day

- "mlm leads": $280 (or more) per day

- "work from home": $1,660 (or more) per day

That's a whopping total of $6,100 that you would have to pay EVERY DAY to advertise your business opportunity online! It could be much higher, and it's only going to get worse since the industry is growing.

If you're new to this, don't let this scare you, but do take my words to heart. What made all the difference for me was one thing: massive action. It allowed me to advertise online very effectively not pay a single dime!

Taking massive and aggressive action every single day is what will allow you to make the transition from simply having a hobby, to being a real business owner.
