The Pearl- New Poem
59This poem is for my dear friend Zita. You truly are a pearl to me, and I have missed your never ending friendship.
The Pearl
The men in her life she had strung along
like pearls trying to find the clasp
unaware of knots in the thread
save one
one pearl
one pearl that wore away the string altogether.
The shadows of her heart
touched
he had her love
the corners of her mind
occupied
persuaded her intellect
and in the infinity of her soul
caressed
he owned her passion.
The pearls never to be restrung
sat clumped together in the corner of a box
like jealous losers in a beauty pageant
save one
one pearl
one pearl now dangling preciously on a golden pendant.
