The Political Propaganda Corner 31 May 2009
72One small example of how propaganda worms its way into and affects our lives.
Lies, Politics and Society
From Denny: As I try to maintain relationships with folks on both sides of the political aisle, both groups often email me their incendiary propaganda. This one really takes the cake this week - from a Republican.
I usually give just about everybody a pass on their politics because I grew up internationally where I developed a rather jaded mindset. It didn't help any that I grew up in the intelligence community and quickly realized by observing my father's "colleagues" how easy it is to manipulate the thinking of an entire nation.
They were always patting themselves on the back, congratulating themselves as to how stupid, naive and gullible the public was, so easy to tell them anything. Judging by what I see coming out of these Republican war rooms it turns out the old guys were basically right.
What follows is some of the latest propaganda from the Republican war rooms of how they go about twisting the hearts and minds of others in order to control them. Notice the bullying command to forward it with the reference about the "fear of offending others." That is a direct reference to offending Democrats and anyone else who might challenge their group think, shattering the lies to reveal the real truth.
The youngest generation right now does not believe that propaganda is rampant or how easy it is to control how they think. Since the 1950's propaganda was studied by our government, both in the CIA and the Pentagon, employing thousands of psychologists.
Up until the Bush administration most of this garbage was only used outside our borders, destabilizing governments America couldn't control (so we could "elect" those we could control). I tried to warn people about Bush back in 1998 as I knew both his history, his father's history and more. It did turn out he was the perfect puppet for political crazies behind the scenes. (Think Iraq's Chalabi who bilked our government out of $33 million and more.)
Of course, this past administration is a prime example of why you don't hire wet alcoholics and put them into the White House. Bush's and Cheney's minds were gone crazy from the addiction and when stressful situations presented they ran off half-cocked ever since.
The intelligence, political and military communities are overrun with alcoholics. If there is one thing of which I am certain: NO alcoholic can handle stress and ALWAYS folds like a cheap suit under pressure. These are not the kind of people you want in charge of a nuclear arsenal.
What's left behind of the destructive Bush administration is the trailing puddle of toxic lying political diarrhea still continuing to be released by people like Gingrich, Cheney and their parallel underground shadow government-in-waiting (to rise again like a self-styled Third Reich). It does give a person pause to wonder if they still found a way to siphon off public funds to pay for their lying "white papers" like they did when in office.
I am fine with alcoholics that are sincere about cleaning up their act. There has to come a time of reckoning when they accept just how big a destructive swath they cut in their lives and finally choose to hold themselves accountable. Bush and Cheney AND their followers have yet to accept responsibility.
But then, that's the whole point of sick alcoholics and sick people: the blaming behavior that it's always someone else's fault. When it comes to the political world the Republican war room is constantly blaming the Democrats for what the Republicans actually did. Talk about psychological projection! :) And on and on and on... you get the idea.
Call me weird for taking the middle position that the whole point of government is supposed to be one thing: going about the people's business to better their lives and make things run smoothly and protect the nation when truly necessary from outside attacks.
People actually fall for this as truthful
Reads the email:
"I passed this on to you so that we all can see our future!
COMING SOON!
No apology for sending this! ! ! After hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish - enough is enough. Nowhere did they sing it in Italian, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German or any other language because of immigration. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written. The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close. NOT sorry if this offends anyone because this is MY COUNTRY - IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP -- please pass this along.
I am not against immigration -- just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past -- and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
PART OF THE PROBLEM
Think about this: If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone --
THEN YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
It is Time for America to Speak up"
Bullying sarcasm to keep you right where they want you: in their control
Still quoting the email: "Yep, I passed it on!
Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant'
is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'"
From Denny: Here's how this propaganda works: You give a few facts that can't be checked out but sound reasonable and somewhat believable, you give an emotional appeal for some kind of unity, then you chastise them if they don't follow the group think, making them feel foolish if they do not participate exactly as ordered.
A lot of societies operate like this: Communist China, North Korea, some religions, lots of political groups, domestic abusers, and more. Oh, let's not forget the sarcasm put-downs to make sure the reader "knows" that who they are talking about is a sub-human and therefore not deserving of mutual respect as another human being.
What they are really marketing is that it's OK to hate others if you view them as sub-human. The Nazis did that during WWII with the Jews declared sub-human, plunging us all into a long war. Is this hate speech really worth it when allowing it to run out of control eventually turns into a war? History proves this time and again.
Of course, these emails turn me off the most with the bullying to forward them. Well, guess what, I forwarded them all right AND with a "forward" AND "afterward" of my own! :) These toxic political types are not going to stop any time soon - after all they are perverted from the heart-spiritual level for dishing out this stuff in the first place: Trying to jack people up on fear of losing something dear to them is how they control others.
What would be a great idea is for the writing and blogging communities to get serious about refuting these war room missives that pass for truth. There are a lot of "hearts and minds" out there that are terribly confused and easily swayed by deception - and fear. Love them enough to tell them the truth.
Thanks for your visit!

Glad I'm not alone in a preference to bring the absurdity to light publicly. Some of the emails are indeed the epitome of abuse and ignorance. Beautifully written Denny and as usual, being a fan is enhanced with each missive.
Hi, Gypsy, thanks for your timely visit, just published this hub! Your phrase "the political mess" really is accurate when it describes such a conflicted society. It's about time we get serious about teaching critical thinking in America and our school system on even the elementary levels - and then people could not be so easily confused - and ultimately used...
It's amazing how people's opinions are swayed with just a few unsubstantiated claims. I agree there are a lot of confused people out there and it would be nice if bloggers could unite as they say and put an end to those propaganda machines.
Hi, readabook, thanks for visiting! Lying has been around since mankind was born it seems. We may not be able to put an end to it. What we CAN do is provide a constant counterpoint to it so people can realize there is a smarter way to look at things. Eventually, it would sink in they've "been had" and would get mad enough to quit listening to garbage and start truly figuring things out for themselves. Keeping my fingers crossed for that day...
Denny, my dear, this hub is clearly one of my most favorite political hubs, ever. Told with such finesse' I had to read it again. I agree with you that one day we all will begin to start thinking for ourselves and instead of the political garbage being spread around the Internets. Bravo Denny!
Hi, AID Y, thanks for visiting! I bow (humbly) to the gifted writer who gifted me with such a compliment, thank you!
This is a very important and serious topic, Denny. Since so few corporations own most of the media, it stands to reason that news is filtered by these for profit companies toward their own best interests.
I listen to AM talk radio occasionally just to hear what they have to say. Quotes taken out of context seem to be popular. They also like to get people riled up over non-topics like the 2010 Census which they were claiming was an invasion of privacy and loaded with tons of awful questions - how the Obama administration wants to poke into our business to control our lives. They never mentioned that this is the shortest census ever and that it was created during the Bush administration.
Hi, Dolores, thanks for stopping by for a visit! Excellent points and thanks for the updated info, you rock!

Another excellent hub, Denny. Certainly food for thought. You are a great observer of the political mess. Thank you for writing this.
