The Prosumer's Guide To Buying a Camera
79'Prosumer' is a word coined by two other words - 'professional' and 'consumer'. In relating to technological pursuits such as photography, a prosumer is someone who has higher demand than his counterparts.
A prosumer photographer is more than just a casual hobbyist. He is always after the newest technology, although in reality, he cannot afford them. He tolerates all the flaws in the present gadgets and finds ways to save for the next best ones in the market.
There are quite a few cameras for prosumers these days compared to previous years. However, which is suitable?
A prosumer camera has some of the features of a professional camera as well as the basic features of a consumer camera.
These cameras are usually point and soot camera added with extras such manual control over the aperture, shutter, ISO, focal length and so on.
A prosumer camera should have about 8 - 10mp(megapixels). Some prosumer cameras come with 12 mp. That is good enough.
As most prosumer cameras do not accept any extra accessories such as tele or wide lenses, these cameras usually come with long zooms. It is not surprising to see zooms as long as 20X and some even have micro zooms.
A prosumer camera can write RAW files, a feature only can be found in SDLR cameras.
Some pricy prosumer cameras come with features like image stabilization, anti-shake, face detection, red-eye removal, intelligent flash, etc.
There is no single perfect camera for every prosumer. A prosumer knows he has to sacrifice certain features in a camera for other newer features at a price he can afford.
