The Pyramat PM450WR Wireless Sound Rocker
74ROCK OUT SANS-WIRES!!!!
A Review
Overview
In the world of Target and WallyWorld and BestBuy game/sound rocker cheapness, this handy little item really stands out. Made by Pyramat, the world's premiere sound-rocker-thingy-people, this bad boy is a no-holds-barred man-chair with enough juice to satiate even the most anal audiophile.
Comfort
The first thing you notice is simply how well the product is manufactured. It's not the flimsy plush with ABS plastic molding pieces of crap you'll find for your average 7 year old who really doesn't care about comfort or style -No sir. This chair is upholstered quite well, easy to get in and out of, well-balanced, and very, VERY comfortable. Even for a dude that stands at 6'2 and over 200lbs of man-girth, I am absolutely comfortable sitting in this thing for hours on end. The chair even folds in half for easy storage. It hooks up wirelessly using an adapter that will plug into your setup's audio output (from your xbox, ps3, wii, tv, etc) and even has a five hour rechargeable battery built into it.
Sound
Next, we have the sound quality--superb. For a device with a mere three speakers (one on each side of the head rest and a butt-blasting sub in the seat) the sound quality is suprisingly crisp and clear. To put it bluntly: This baby has enough bass to blast your neighbors outta their bed.....during copulation. It's got audio outs for connecting multiple chairs (if you are either super rich, or actually have several friends that have one of these and a huge basement to play in) and also an attached dongle to hook up your mp3 player so you can rock your own beats. The blue LED's in the two top speakers give it that super cool Millenium Falcon feel as you slide into this puppy makin you feel like you are ready to turn on the flux capacitor AND the oscillation overthruster.
Playing games
The two main areas where this puppy really shines in the gaming world are thus: Racing games and FPS's. The former making you honestly feel like you are strapped into the ridiculously fast car that you are driving on screen (who drives slow cars in a video game anyways, right?) particularly if you are using the "bumper cam" style view that I personally enjoy most for that "immersive" feeling. I played three racing games when taking this mama jama for a test drive and I must say that I was throughly impressed that much friggin more than I was playing them without the chair--Need For Speed: Most Wanted (360), Forza Motorsport 2 (360), and Burnout: Paradise (360). In NFSMW you really feel it when you hit the NOS and the car roars forward rocketing past other cars and cops hot on your trail. The bass in your seat really pounds making you feel like you are actually in the driver's seat. In Forza, it puts you head first into the racing world and far more closely simulates the feel of a real auto race. In Burnout Paradise the crashes and speed are so intense in this game that you simply have to scream at the top of your lungs WAAAHOOOOO!!! when you hit the "burn". As far as FPS's go, I've played Turok (360) and Jericho (360), and I gotta tell you, the surround sound element in the speakers really shines. Particularly in a game like Turok where the sound design is amazing and the sounds of the jungle are thrown around you --You literally feel like you are being hunted at every moment.
Conclusion
At a healthy $230 bucks, this chair really feels like one that costs far more. So far I've only seen it for sale on ebay and the Sharper Image so by all means, google that shizzle and see what you find. I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this item and I'm gonna have to rate it as a definite BUY. If you've got the bucks, want a comfortable rocker with kick-arse sound, this chair is for you. If not, well, hey...there's always WallyWorld :)
