*This episode’s quote is from Acts of Faith: Meditations for People of Color, October 1st.
Take risks, take action. It doesn’t take much to create change. By starting this project I’m putting my but on the line. I am putting forth the effort and I am trying. Do you know how much I’ve learned from this experience? Simply preparing to create this component of this project has been a journey. I’ve put my but on the line and the Prosperity Blog has been visited over 1,000 times already. Put your but on the line, you will be shocked and amazed at the response you receive.
I am Kimmy B., founder of the LiteracyRich Project. Welcome to the first official episode of the “Read & Prosper Show.” If you’re a woman seeking financial empowerment, then you are watching the right show. This month’s book selection is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. We will begin our financial literacy education by changing our relationship to money and building a wealth consciousness. Your thoughts and beliefs about money affect how money is manifested in your life. Before we can even get to money management, finding that perfect career or consider starting a business, we must start with our minds and our thoughts.
In today’s episode I will share 2 lessons from Think & Grow Rich: desire and faith. To create financial wealth and abundance we must start from the beginning.
Napoleon Hill states this about desire, “Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat. Only by so doing can one be sure of maintaining that state of mind known as a burning desire to win, essential to success.” He describes desire as the “starting point of all achievement.
Desire is what sets the wheels of your mind in motion. If you desire something so much that you are willing to burn all bridges and do whatever it takes, then you will get it. Only with strong desire and swift action can you force yourself to forge ahead and achieve great things like getting out of debt or buying your first home.
Napoleon Hill says this about faith, “faith is a state of mind which may be induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind.” Faith is, “the visualization of, and belief in attainment of desire.” If you’re going to get somewhere, you have to believe that you are already there.
If you’re going to become financially wealthy, you have to believe you are already financially wealthy. You cannot become financially prosperous while thinking a poor person’s thoughts. It is counterintuitive and will not serve you on your journey to financial freedom.
Before I go, I want to leave you with a women and money financial truth: our mothers are very powerful women. The way they manage money affects the we manage money. Think about the way your mother or guardian managed money and determine whether or not there are some similarities. This truth affects your beliefs about money and may or may not be serving you.
Desire and faith are needed to create financial abundance. You must have a strong desire to change any negative thinking you may have about money. For the transcript of this video and a resource guide visit www.prosperityblogger.wordpress.com today.

Reading Questions & Exercises
These exercises are adapted from the book It's Not About the Money.
We all have a money biography. This biography often dictates how we manage money in our lives with out us even realizing it. The following questions will help you better understand you money biography:
- What is your most painful memory related to money? If no painful memory easily comes to mind, focus on your earliest memories about money. What were you doing? How old were you? What did it feel like? After this event, what story did you begin to tell yourself about money? How has the story hindered your financial growth?
- What is your biggest fear about money? Think of your fear as a beacon that exists to point your attention to what is unconscious, and therefore very powerful, within you. Perhaps you have a fear of becoming a bag a lady. What experiences in your past have contributed to this your fear?
- What lessons did your mother teach you about money? What were you taught were the most important things about money? What were your parents' biases and values? Did you adopt them or rebel against them?
