Story Behind The Sunglasses

Lady Gaga's Just Dance sunglasses, which first appeared in the music video Just Dance, are believed to be a vintage style produced by either Pucci or Versace. Lady Gaga wore it frequently until it was reportedly stolen earlier this year by an unknown thief. Although Lady Gaga offered a reward for her trademark shades, no one has come clean.

She has not confirmed or denied that her sunglasses are a Pucci or Vesace brand. Several fashion experts have identified it as both brands with minor discrepancies. Both brands do not have the gold trim featured on her original sunglasses, making it even more difficult to identify.

Fashion experts agree on one point, however: it is vintage and not produced today by any company. Finding it is extremeley difficult, with only a handful still in circulation.

Another source also claims Lady Gaga's Just Dance sunglasses are a vintage brand previously owned by Twiggy, the world's first fashion model. If this is true, obtaining her glasses may be impossible. This may be the only pair in circulation.

Video Evidence

One fan also claimed he found her Just Dance sunglasses while attending her autograph signing in 2008 (see Youtube video below). According to him, he found the shades while in Montreal, the location where it was originally lost. He claims that she received the sunglasses from fashion supermodel Twiggy but misplaced it while she performed in Canada.

Is it Pucci or Versace?

Experts have debated the brand and style of her shades since she debuted them in her album The Fame. Here's the evidence:

Versace

  • Some fashion websites, including Splendidcity.com, identified the glasses as vintage Versace glasses.
  • The comparison of her glasses to the vintage Versace brand looks almost identical. The only difference is the missing gold rim along the side.

Pucci

  • Internet rumors claim her shades are handmade by Pucci, a French brand. It is a vintage piece not in circulation.
  • Experts have confirmed it is Pucci through Youtube user gemini8885, who posted a video of him returning the shades to Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga indicated it was hers.
  • The same Youtube user also claims Lady Gaga said it was a gift from former supermodel Twiggy.
  • The glasses look identical to the glasses worn in Just Dance. It is highly likely this is the original shades she lost in 2008.

If you compare the evidence, her sunglasses are clearly vintage Pucci. Versace's brand is a nearly identical.

Where to Purchase

If you want an identical or nearly identical version of her sunglasses, be prepared to shell out some dough.  The vintage Versace shades, brand 676, are nearly $600 and hard to find.  Finding vintage Pucci, is nearly impossible.  Only a few are still in circulation, and chances are it's not on sale.  Be wary of any retailers who claim they have this exact brand--chances are they do not.

There are several good quality replicas also available.  Although you can save $500 by buying a replica, it is not made out of the same material, which makes it cheaper.  Replicas are available on Ebay or in independent Internet stores.

Her style is really out there, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were vintage shades, or even something custom designed by one of the top designers. She definitely goes for unique, one of a kind looks.
