The history of reform and renaissance in true Anglicanism begins July 14 1833. When the Reverend John Keble gave the Assize sermon before an assembly at the university church of St Mary, Oxford it distrubed a great many parishoners. The restoration of Catholic faith to the Anglican communion had began. He took the opportunity to attack the state interference in the Church 's business He called the clergy of England to act on "National Apostasy " to reaffirm the dignity of their church, now under such a threat. Keble and his school friends, Professor Edward Bouverie Pusey, John Henry Newman, and others, soon began the publication of parts designed to shake up the satisfaction of clergy and to affirm a vision of what it means to be true the Church of England They were called "Tractarians " accordingly, but they are also called "Puseyites " and the movement of Oxford. The Puseyites has restored the name the "Anglo-Catholicism " for it was a name that reflected the core of their reform.
They knew, the Church of England could claim to be part of one Holy Catholic Church. Newman seeking to combat the state's power over the church understood the true separate Christian authority the Church of England had. Its God-given authority was built on the writings and polity of imparted to it by the Church Fathers from most Ancient times. This has served to convince Newman to adopt a position of high status for Bishops ,priests, and sacraments of the church. The importance of the Eucharist was restored to the body of Christ.. Seeing the inspiration of God, some sought Newman 's knowledge of the restoration of the church for British believers.Unfortunately, for the Anglican body of Christ Newman’s frustration with the church sent him back to the Roman Church.. He left some young and energetic priests who remained true to reform.,
Like all the periods of reform in the church that restoration of the church of England was not without pain. Believers in slum tenements to the House of Parliament Anglo-Catholic seeking reform; provoked bitter discussion and even violence towards believer. Putrid Vegetables were thrown priests while they preached the truth to their flocks from the pulpit.
Anglo-Catholicism as a countercultural movement. It was one that had supported practices that were symbolic slights to some of the core values of the dominant culture of middle class the day. The members of the urban poor, women, and youth of both sexes, had seen the truth in this call for reform.
Several of these brothers and sisters in Christ have felt abandoned by the church of God's true and had been blessed by the return of orthodox practice to the Church They had be duped by the Protestant reform supported by many of the schools, upper classes and powerful public officials. Many of these believers to return to the church were the people understand today to be part of oppressed groups. As soon as the Anglo-Catholic church movement started ,these groups searched their heart for the truth .These people were much like the one’s Jesus himself were so eager to bring in to the Church, those that others had falsely considered unworthy of the grace and love of God.
