Breathe for Today

Your physical body can survive a few weeks without food, a few days without water, but only a few minutes without air. So much emphasis is put on the importance of eating healthy and drinking enough water, but what about the importance of breathing properly?
One of the main reasons this powerful healing art is not stressed to the public is the inability for companies to profit from it. Sure you can sell breathing techniques to people in the form of audio tapes or written words, but once you teach a man to fish, he probable wont come back to buy more fish.
Another major road block stopping people is the simplicity of it all. Most people these days think they need some super advanced scientifically altered nutritional supplement to put the zest back in their lives. When you tell these people they can have all the energy of their childhood just by learning how to breath properly, they look at you like your crazy and say, “I’m XX years old! i don’t think i could have made it this far without knowing how to breathe!”. And its that Ego that is stopping them from feeling truly Awesome.
It is the Simplicity that makes its power so deceptive, but just because it is simple doesn’t mean its easy. Just like any skill, if you want it to be of any true value, it must be developed. Repeated focused intention and attention is how you make your breath truly powerful. Just as you set aside time to eat everyday, and time to exercise (or at least you should), breathing should have its time and place.

The benefits of learning breath control are numerous
- Speed up or slow down your metabolism (depending on your goal)
- Aid digestion - Cleanse you lymphatic system
- Purify your blood - Detoxify your body and mind
- Increase Energy, Concentration, Focus
- Cure depression, Anxiety, and end bad habits
- aid lucid dreaming - Reduce Stress
- Aid healing - Fight inflammation and Acidity
- Sleep Better
- Increase Life Span

Pages could be filled with the benefits alone, but by far the most powerful and useful benefit of breath control Is the power to control ones mind. If you understand that the Life you are living today is the sum total of all the thoughts you have ever held, then you can see why The Science of Breathing is the most important science one could master.

Getting Started

-The frist step is to set aside some time every day, preferably the same time and same place so that it becomes a habit and makes it easier to 'pick up where u left off'.

-Posture is Important- Make sure your back is straight and you chin is slightly tucked in as to pull your spine up and straighten you neck out.

-Make the breath smooth and even with no pauses. For now always breath in through the nose and out through the nose (unless you want to cool your body temperature then you would breathe out through the mouth). Concentrate on the bridge of the nose, try and feel the breath evenly in both nostrils.

The internet is full of enough free information to get anyone to a high level of mastery. That being said there are also many amazing books and audio programs that can greatly accelerate you progress as well. I will highlight more specific exercises and methods in my next hub, as well some documented scientific studies that demonstrate the amazing control one can gain over the body and mind with this science.
