The Secret of My Success

By my-success-guru

Questions I ask myself every day by far have been the biggest asset of my success. The amazing thing about the questions I ask myself is that I almost always come up with an answer or solution, even if the question seemed impossible. I lie in bed each night and ask myself, "How can I make the world a better place? How can I find a way to contribute to millions of people by giving them hope and inspiration?" And the answers start flowing like a magnificent river of knowledge. That's the secret - to keep the idea flowing. If you want to know an answer to a question, if you want to find a solution to a problem, then don't just make a meek attempt at finding a solution.

Don't just say, "What if?" and when the answer or the solution doesn't appear, give up. You have to create a whole stream of "what ifs" -- "What if I try this? No, that won't work. What if I try this? No, that won't work." One drop of water upstream meekly trying to find its way to the waterfall may dry up before it ever reaches its destination, but with each additional drop, the water gradually becomes a river that will reach the waterfall. This is the state of mind - the creativity - that you want to generate within yourself. What happens when you get just a small current? The current pulls everything toward it.

HOW QUESTIONS CAN UNLOCK

THE GENIUS IN YOU

The most effective way to control your focus is with the power of questions. Every day the questions we ask ourselves determine our focus, our thoughts, and our emotions. Asking empowering questions helped me lift myself up whenever I felt I was knocked down. Instead of asking questions like, "Why me?" I began to ask questions that could help me get back on my feet.

"Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find; knock

and it will be opened to you." -Matthew 7:7

Think about it. The quality of questions we ask ourselves determines the quality of our lives. What’s the difference between those who are successful and those who aren’t? It’s the quality of there questions. By asking better quality questions those who are successful make critical distinctions that others don’t. Back in the day when the automobile industry was still in its infancy stage, hundreds of pioneering people experimented with building them, but Henry ford distinguished himself by asking a quality question “How can I mass produce such a machine?” Ghandhi accomplished what an army of men couldn’t accomplish by asking himself the powerful question “How can I free India in a nonviolent way from British control? Bill Gates became the worlds wealthiest man by asking, how can I license (dos) instead of selling it.

Here are some problem-solving questions to help you find solutions when problems arise:

"Make it Happen" Problem-Solving Questions

1. What is amazing about this problem?

2. What is not the way I want it yet?

3. What am I going to do to make it better?

4. What am I going to stop doing to make it better?

5. How can I make it an enjoyable experience while I make these changes?

I also ask myself my morning, "Make it Happen" questions, so I can jump out of bed with enthusiasm.

"Make it Happen" Questions to jump start my day

1. What am I thankful for?

2. Who do I care about? Who cares about me?

3. How can I start my day better today?

4. How can I leave the world a better place

today? How do I feel about that?

5. How can I gain more momentum?

6. What am I looking forward to?

7. What am I passionate about?

"Make it Happen" Night Time Questions

1. What did I offer today? In what ways did I make a positive impact in someone’s life?

2. What was life's lesson for me today?

3. How has today made my life richer? How can today be an investment for my future?

These questions have dramatically improved my quality of life by shifting my focus. When you know the right questions to ask, you can help others as well by throwing a question their way.

I have a buddy during my college years and one thing that he likes to say (up till even now) is "Why Not?" When he heard that something is not doable, he would ask this question, because to him nothing is impossible if you really look into it.

He has achieved much success now based on this simple question.

Hi dawei,

Yes this is a key question and the absolute best way to scale up your business is by tapping into someone Else's opt in list. There are businesses that spent years building their list to thousands of subscribers and if you can get them to recommend your product or service to their existing clients it will rapidly increase your business. What are your thoughts on this?

Yeah that's just what I'm talking about dawei. Tap into other businesses client list and bam! It can grow your business fast just like your friend that went platinum. A good way to do this is by surfing the web for related magazines and sites  like yours. I recommend actually giving it the personal touch and calling them. I once landed a deal in just one magazine alone that resulted in about $10,000 of free publicity with a two page article. Orders for my books came in for about a whole year!

Hey honestyt4isaac ,

The secret to Ebay is finding a good reliable drop shipper with a competitive price and products that don't have too much competition. This way you won't have to get bogged down with boxing everything. With the right drop shipper you won't have to buy the products until you get paid by the Ebay buyer. It's easier to start out selling less expensive products until you build trust by building up your feedback score. Plus there are some great books on Ebay for $1 to $10. Another great strategy is to see what the power sellers are selling and find out who their supplier is- hope this helps!

To Your Success,

Jim

When a negative circumstance happens in my life, too often the questions I ask are probably counterproductive. Yes, I can persevere through a problem, but not with the grace I would like, and I have been being mired down too long with certain challenges, as a result of asking the wrong questions, I'm convinced.

Hello my-success-guru,

Well, I am so new to this that I feel I am getting addicted to reading and digesting ideas and thoughts that are freely presented in this special dot com that we can access anytime of day. I am pretty amazed at what you wrote about the wonders that a question can make things happen. I think that you, guru, can make things happen through your articles. I've only read a couple and it seemed that they have already gave me a "jumpstart" of what to write and what not to write.

You made me go back sometime ago in my life, when I was youngER- when my Philisophy teacher once said that at times "there are questions left unanswered and they might just have to be questions forever." But when I went over your list- for the morning, the evening, and the other list- then these questions can be topics or sub-topics themselves.

Keep it up, guru--Hubpages deserve someOne like you.

Its important to note that the sole purpose of questioning the self is to come up with an answer! If there are no answers, one can feel a bit like a failure, or frustrated over it. Mindfulness meditation tells us that the healing power of answers is within us all the time. If there are no answers, ask a different question, or else we are (or are we?) interested in deliberating an answer.

And this is where the importance of having a structured list of questions helps.

My favourite question, to my subjective self, is: "Do I have a problem with this?" A bit like God asking Adam "What are you doing?" All the while, a character such as God would know, you'd imagine!

The following is an overview of what I call 'Mudra Questioning' based on the meaningful-ness of the human hand. This involves a pedagogal, Kin(a)esthetic-Tactile way to remember how to ask questions, without being inherantly judgemental to yourself or to others. Each 'mudra' is corollary to one of the five Platonic elements and, especially in the non-theistic Vedic Sciences, to a solfège-like: do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, and so on - I wont give all of the corollations here...

A 'mudra' is a 'banda' lock involving finger positions. Here, we simply pay attention to each finger thusly:1) Thumb: What? An object. 2) Index: Which? / "What option?": denotes a choice, an option. In Vedic terms, denotes an autonomous, or characteristic tendency.3) Middle: Who? / To Whom?: Person or people, especially an authority or influential movement.4) Ring: When?5) Pinky: Where?

Note that "How?" and "Why?" are not present in this operation, unlike other presentations, because these are the *intention* for questioning and the *motivation and purpose* for the obtaining of answers. The "How?" and "Why?" are inherant in us and those answers we revel in.

Note the lack of depth in the Modern English. In Old English "Whom?" could've also questioned or referred to objects: "The cars, WHOM we drive", "The institutions, WHOM we are able to rely upon", etc.

Note with that "Which?" in Modern English doesn't accept the "giving" of multiple choice answers - we linguistically have a lack of options - due to a general lack of interest in self empowered statements and an obsession with specificity in our society. We need to change our language, atleast internally. Perhaps we need to read, read, read. Or skim, skim, skim?

Structured Mudra Questioning can now take place, in this crude example, in response to human limitations, somebody gives the answer (or you can present the statement) that:A: "... But Einstein said we cannot travel faster than light".

Your Analysis = Who? Next finger = Ring, When?Therefore, show interest in the answer and reply;

Q: WHEN did he say that?A: I don't know.

Your Analysis = When? Next finger = Pinky, Where?Therefore, show interest in the answer and reply;

Q: Well, WHERE did you learn that?A: On T.V. last night

Your Analysis = Where? Next finger = Thumb: What?Therefore, show interest in the answer and reply;

Q: WHAT was that program about?A: Extraterrestrial Civilisations in South America.

Your Analysis = Where? Next finger = Index: Which?Therefore, show interest in the answer and reply;

Q: Do you like old quotes?Q: Do you believe what the scientists might say?Q: Do you accept everything you see on T.V.?Q: Do you accept Extraterrestrial Life? Here, you'd be on the 'fourth finger', whichever one that might end up being, so from here you'd be able to facilitate the paradigm shift to a conscientious and empathetic mood.

Even if you know that Einstein actually showed through his calculations that we cannot accelerate to faster than light speed, i.e. his calculations didnt mention those whom already travel at over the speed of light.

You cant glean any more information without taking an attitude of interrogation. That is a different subject.

Note: Always ask yourself: "Are you interested?" Interest is the source emotion we need to tackle in order to learn.

The Far Side: Maintain the ambiguity?

What? Avoid naming things. Instead refer to "that", or "those", etc.Which? Avoid giving what you think might be choices. Leave it open and up to the person you are asking.Who?: Avoid specific names of people and places, for example "Albert Einstein." Instead you'd refer to "he", or "a scientist."When?: Avoid specific times, such as 10pm. Instead use "last night", or "previously", or "long ago."Where?: Avoid specific locations. Instead use "above", "below", "up there", "over there."

You dont want to be exacting and correct youself, or anybody else. Only to yourself can you exercise self-discpline, like when you cant come up with the answers. Only with this practice, though: The underpinning of your success is the absolute belief that what you are doing will lead to success, in spite of the fact that you are right or wrong. Just as others have done throughout the ages.

I dont question myself or others, I merely challenge my own beliefs.

This is a great hub!  I love the positive slant and can imagine that approaching life from the perspective that you present in this hub would have an uplifting effect.  I'm certain that it would help people get out of 'stuck' mode.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful attitude and those questions.  I know they'll help many.

P.S. I am bookmarking for reference. :)

Yes, I think it has helped me to ask myself empowering questions. Most times, it works and I get an answer to what my first or next step is, or seem led in a direction where I find what I need to know. When I don't, it's ALWAYS because I'm feeling frustrated and impatient and I don't wait for it or perserve. It works best (at least for me) when I remain relaxed, put the question out there and be open for an answer. Sometimes, the questions lead to more questions until I'm asking what I really wanted to know all along but didn't realize it.

I've actually been doing it so long that I don't even notice when I'm doing it most of the time anymore, it's become second nature. I'm not saying that I've perfected it because I sure haven't. However, I find that now, I automatically express gratitude or look to the answer of how to help others without stopping to think about it and ask. I think the questions, over time, helped me to reach that point.

I think you wanted an example though, didn't you? Okay, I'll skip the details, as this comment is already long (sorry). Asking myself how I could a) get back into writing after a ten year lapse b) help other writers (that's how I decided that I wanted to be of service) c) learn how to function online in a safe place with people that would be kind d) earn a living from home

Those questions came from answering the ones about passion, momentum, etc. The end result is that I found HubPages, began writing for clients, often help other writers, work from home. These things bring me joy and have brought to my attention some new things and avenues that I want to persue.

Gee, that's probably more than you wanted to know.

Welcome back Shirley!

WOW! That's great! Thanks for sharing! Actually it's nice for a change to see someone go above and beyond what I was hoping for! How do you help other writers? Do you mean Hubpages or something else?

Bless You

I help pretty much any writer that asks me, sometimes they come from HP, other times, it's just writers from the internet world who have questions or would like some direction regarding freelancing. If I know the answer to their questions, I tell them.

Hey, does that mean that they're asking me their empowering questions? :)

Thank-you for the blessing!

Hey, does that mean that they're asking me their empowering questions? :)

LOL

OK here is my empowering question: What is the best way to pay my bills freelancing on topics I love?

Shirley Anderson profile image

Shirley Anderson  says:

Ah, that's the question that I get most.

Guess the most helpful thing I can tell you about that is to write well, write often and make a name for yourself. Not just on HubPages, either. I imagine that you already pop into forums in your niche, etc. and have your website in your email signature. You can also watch the freelancing boards and apply for jobs. Many people get work that way, although I never seem to. Luckily, clients contact me because they've read about me here or on my site. I also get word of mouth advertising from clients, which is fantastic and a sure assignment.

My youngest daughter was taking a trip and mentioned to the travel agent that her mother is a writer. Because of that, I now have a regular monthly gig that is fairly easy and pays well. Think I'll have to make her my manager, since she also mentioned me to someone who wants a book written. Aren't kids great?

If you're looking for fast money, writing ain't it. It's more of a building process that increases over time.

So, the short answer is (I know, too late - I'm very verbose tonight) learn keywording, write and network.

I have a feeling that you already know all of this. :) Hope it helps.

I loved your post! I think that most people do ask themselves questions, but they are self defeating questions like, "Why can't I do anything right?" or "Why am I always broke?" The mind will find answers to those questions, reinforcing our disempowering beliefs about ourselves.

Great post. I can see why you are a hot hub. You present value.

Profound reminder MS Guru! The clearer the question, the easier it is to recognize the appropriate answer.

Since you ask if anyone has anything to add - yes. It helps to remember that the first answer is "YES". Replacing the millionth "no" we've heard, along with all the ones we hear as children, with a simple "yes" removes debilitating doubt.

OMG,..I got the same hamster running on his ferris wheel in my head at night too. Well actually all the time. I really liked your hub. My Grandfather who served in WW2 and raised me always preached mind over matter's. I believe in that to. I also believe by asking questions, you allow yourself to learn more about what makes you,..you and that's where your passions will spark that will direct you on the path you should be taking. Regaurding the :Why Me ?' I believe everything happens for a reason, you make not like it, you may not understand it, but down the raod you will say,..Oh thats why that had to happen. I try to look at the cup being half full and I live by the motto - Your opinion of me, is none of my business.

Thanks again for the great hub Jim !!! By the way I checked out your link,...Very good information.

Its a great Hub

it reminded me of Michael Jackson song "Heal the world make it a better place" This is my favourite song. I always feel blessed and thank god when I think of others who could be less fortunate.

My father he always says to me Your life is not yours, its for others. Everyone lives his or her life for themselves... no big deal. real living is when you live for others.... care for others....help others.... their priorities are ahead of yours...just give dont expect any returns

Sorry I just got carried away

Hey thinking of above what i just said I can actually have a hub on it... I know my fathers sayings could inspire me..:)

Thank you for this. It is great. I have done the exact opposite of thinking lately and the results were miraculous. I am a logical thinker and one day, July 12th, 2009. I just decided to "drop it". No more control of my day. I paid attention to how the universe was communicating to me, illogical in my mind as it may seem and wow! Magic.

It is because I dropped my need for control [smiles]

Thank you for sharing.

Terrific advice and hub, I feel that anything is achievable and in many cases it comes down to surrounding yourself with a mastermind of individuals who can solve a common problem together, perhaps as humans our question should be...how can like minded individuals come together in order to bring about common good? This applies as well to marketing as saving our planet. Keep up the great work!
