The Secret to Summer Hair: Care Less
68Yes, the secret is that simple
Care less. Thats what its all about. Because in the summer, you've got a lot to be concerned with: having fun, avoiding sunburn and skin damage, working on that summer fling, and totally chillaxin'.
You don't want to have to spend half and hour grooming and perfecting when the second you walk outside your hair will pouf and frizz and totally disagree with all your well laid plans--so here's my guide to summer hair.
Wavy Hair
The Easiest, Superhot Look
Wavy hair is THE look of the summer. It's voluminous, sexy, and best of all, totally effortless. It even works for me, with ridiculously fine hair (though my hair won't really wave, it just gives it more volume. Whatevs).
First, in the shower, go for pure lusty shine and deliciousness. Take a hit of Herbal Essences sexy scent--my personal favorite for effortless style is Body Envy-- it smells like sweet flowery oranges. Yum.
Once out of the shower, rub in some FAT Hair "0" Calorie Amplifying Mousse, and, just because I'm a total shine junkie--and the summer is all about glittering in the sun--I like to rub in a quarter of the Shine Shock line of John Freida.
Now while you can go the whole, super-overstyled curling iron look, who wants to bother? Work with the heat, the frizz and the sun. Brush your hair out, flip it over and blowdry wildly. No brushes, maybe a little finger combing, nothing else.
Blow until it's totally dry, and while it's still hot and upside down, twist it into a bun on the top of your head. Spray on a little hairspray--especially along the sides where it will rack up the volume--and never, ever forget the silkening mist (my favorite product of all time).
Wait until it cools and you'll have gorgeous, flowing, EFFORTLESS waves. Which is totally summer.
Pony Tails
How to Rock the Summer Pony
Not that a pony tail should ever be messy, but the easiest pony tail is like Katherine Heigl's--roughly fingercomb your hair back section by section so it looks loose and a little undone, and secure the pony tail at roughly mid height. Tendrils hanging down? Perfect. It frames your face and it looks like you couldn't care less--and you're effortlessly gorgeous.
Pony number two is high and sleek--use the products I mentioned above, blowdry, and brush to the highest point on the back of your head--according to Tyra Banks, it will make your cheekbones look model-esque. It makes you look super styled with barely five minutes of effort. And seriously, don't forget that silkening mist--what's a sleek look without a mirror shine?
Enjoy the summer ladies, you look gorgeous!
