I actually watched TV the other day. I hardly ever watch it anymore because I seem to spend all my free time writing. There were lots of shows I didn't recognize and lots of characters I didn't know. What struck me was that all the characters seemed the same. Back in the day.. the TV characters seemed to have more variety and could be picked out of a crowd. I couldn't begin to pick out today's TV characters. It seems that all of the shows have the same type of characters, all detectives or female mortician who seem to have no problem preforming autopsies in high heels. I began thinking about past TV shows and how much simplier the characters were and how you were able to pick TV women of the Seventies out of a crowd. Sure their TV character lacked some definition but they were memorable. Here are my Top picks..

Now and Then

Tina Louise Now

Tina Louise

Ginger from Gilligan's Island was the one of best dressed women on TV. She seemed to never run out of fancy dressed and walking around in high heels on the sand didn't seem to bother that movie star. As a kid I would always try to mimic her voice as it always seemed she may lose her breath at any moment. Although this show was originally made in the 60's I remember watching in the 70's. Gilligan's Island was only aired for 98 shows.

Now and Then

Suzanne Sommers then as Chrissy

Suzanne Summers

Suzanne Summers is best known as Chrissy on Three's Company. She immediately caught the TV audiences attention with her blond hair long legs and goofy laugh. Suzanne went on from Three's company to sell the ever popular Thigh -Master. She progressed with the times though by creating a series of self help, books, diet books and autobiographies. Three's Company aired from 1977 to 1984.

Now and Then

Lynda Carter Now

Lynda Carter

Wonder Woman was the first time a female superhero made Primetime. Lynda Carter was a natural pick for the part due to her build and long brunette hair. Wonder Woman aired from 1975 to 1979. Before she was Wonder Woman she was Miss World USA in 1972. Ms Carter has been doing cameos in several movies, her most recent the remake of Dukes of Hazzard.

It was always a debate in my house of who was the best superhero, Wonder Woman or the Bionic woman?  Ms Wagner plyaed the part of Jamie Sommers the Bionic Woman.  Ms Wagoner actually won an Emmy for her portrayal of her in 1977.  She  has spent time doing appearances  in TV shows such as the Rockford Files and the Paperchase.  She has also been writing books about acupuncture.  The Bionic Woman aired form 1976 to 1978.

Daisy Duke the attractive cousin of Bo and Luke Duke definitely attracted the male audience. Always appearing in her short-shorts and a tip barely covering her midsection Daisy was always ready to jump into the General Lee with her cousins for some down home fun. Daisy's short cut jeans inspired the term "Daisy Dukes" Dukes of Hazzard ran from 1979 to 1984.

Brings back memories ... but I would rather remember them as they are fixed in my mind ... not as they are now. Some have changed too much ... but of course I have not aged ... LOL.

They don't make them like they used to. The ladies were beautiful and sexy, the men were bold and courageous and the shows were simply fun. Bye and rest in peace our dear Farrah.
