The Sly Fox

When my sister Carla works on a painting, she often paints foxes. She just loves them.  Like the cat, the Fox is often nocturnal and mysterious. In Japanese folklore  there are fox maidens who are beautiful women of a day and foxes at night. Of have heard, at least locally that one form the witches take on is the fox. Because of it's cunning and elusiveness, the fox is often  called sly. Among Native Americans the fox is cunning, crafty, and a trickster. Among the Chinese the fox represents longevity, craftiness, and transformation. Also, they are seen as ghosts of the dead. In the Middle Ages Christians connected them to the Devil as a deceiver. Feigning death to trap it's prey  it was seen as treacherous as Satan. Among  the Japanese the fox is a messenger of the rice god Inari. They also represent longevity and magic.  A black fox is good luck, a white fox is bad. Three foxes together is disaster. In Norse mythology the fox is connected to the trickster Loki. among the ancient Romans the fox was a fire demon. Erotic associations to the fox can be traced to China, a.k.a.  Jimi Hendrix's Foxy Lady. In some of my research the fox is connected to the Underworld.

You're gonna laugh, but... when I saw the title of your hub, I thought you might be writin about the bar, lololol;) I thought you might have some inside folklore us Buckeyes-at-heart don't know about (about the bar!). Then, I began reading it. Even before you mentioned Satan, I kind-of thought that's what it sounded like. They are crafty and sly, those foxes!!! A rice god??? O.k. How interesting that, the black fox was GOOD luck/the white fox BAD... just the opposite of the domesticated cat. Didn't know the little bit about Hendrix's song, either. That's interesting! You do have a lot of very interesting knowledge=) Keep up the good work!

My sister Carla loves foxes and decided to do some folklore on them So I checked my book of symbols, and found some stuff. I thought someone might think of the bar.
