Just 5 More Minutes, Mom!

The cruelest of inventions made by man has to be the snooze button the alarm.  It is an easy button to hit, usually being the biggest button on the alarm right smack in the middle so that your hand can ever so easily find it.  It screams out to hit it so you can grab just those 5 more minutes of sleep before you have to start your day.  The snooze button seems to call out your name louder than the actual alarm, though the snooze button says nothing at all.  How can a piece of plastic that doesn’t make any noise be the loudest button?

Just 5 more minutes to lay in bed, warm and comfortable under your sheets, maybe with your dog or cat snoozing peacefully beside you, and maybe your husband or wife also sleeping at your side.  A fun adventure or delightfully romantic dream keeping your mind occupied as your body rests for another day or work, chores, or whatever you have planned for the next day.  Then the loud shrill of an alarm cuts through your dream, startling you awake, and makes a groan of disgust escape your lips as you smack the first button you want to hit, the SNOOZE BUTTON!  The all mighty snooze button shuts the alarm off for just 5 more minutes, whether it be torture or glorious, once the alarm goes off again you have to roll out of bed, take a quick shower, get dressed, and get ready for your day, whether it is at 5:30 am or 8:00 am.  It is never fun having to roll out of your comfortable bed in the morning but one has to do what one has to do and that means leave the comfort of the bed.

And what is the horrible thing that makes us get up?  Yes it is the alarm clock but I think it is also the doing of the snooze button, the one button on the alarm clock that gives you just 5 more minutes, cruel 5 more minutes I might add.  But every morning, we hit that button out of habit or out of needing those 5 more minutes.

So who made this button?  Why was the snooze button made if it will only give us 5 more torturous minutes before we actually do have to get up?  Shouldn’t we just get up when the alarm goes off and start ignoring the snooze button?

I doubt alarm clocks will come without the snooze button and I doubt anyone will go through life without hitting the snooze button.  Sometimes the button is a blessing while other times it is a curse.  Which is it for you?

I haven't used an alarm clock for two years :D I haven't the need as I AM an alarm clock! That's what happens when you get into pattern I guess. But before this, I've wanted to take my alarm clock outside and punt it across the yard! Fuuny, hubby, crazdwriter!

LOL, you make me laugh. I did find a clock with a programmable snooze once. Then you could have 7 minutes, or even 15 if you wanted. As it is, I just get up.

Glad you guys enjoyed the hub. It hit me this morning when I hit the snooze button on my cell phone alarm like 5 times, each time giving me 5 more minutes. lol

That's very unfortunately true. I wish alarm clocks would come without em. You could probably advertise that as a professional service :) disconnecting the snooze button. That's not a bad idea.

hey crazd,

be glad you're still young enough to require the services of the snooze button. once you reach a certain age you'll find that the internal clock kicks in, like it or not.

funny hub!

Snooze button is evil. It's bad enough that the alarm is a local country station, but to have it blare at you more than once is just plain cruel.

hey crazd,

i tried the bronner's shikakai soap and creme rinse and the leave-in conditioner this week-end. my girlfriend claims it makes my hair look the healthiest she's ever seen it. i'm guessing that matters. however, the creme rinse dried hers out some - she thinks because hers is extremely curly and long. my hair is relatively straight and long. hope the info helps.
