The Source of Inspiration – 5 Places to Turn For Fresh Post Ideas
72We all know that interesting, fresh content is essential to any successful blog and just as important to the popularity of your hubs. Continuously developing new ideas and intriguing titles isn't always easy. There are a number of resources that can help trigger the creative flow.
Keep a Constant Source of Ideas
Wouldn't it be nice if you could just open your blog's dashboard or your word processor and choose from hundreds of different post ideas?
If you don't already, keep a growing list of new ideas and titles for your posts. If you publish on a variety of blogs or media sites, you may find it more useful to keep a separate list for each site. Most online publishing platforms will allow you to save unpublished posts or you can keep a list of title ideas in a text file or a notebook. Whatever method you choose, make a habit of jotting down three to five new ideas each day. Create a title and note any resources that support the topic.
Finding New Ideas
It's hard to keep an ever-growing list of interesting titles and topics without a collection of resources to inspire you. The best places for inspiration and ideas will depend on your interests and the topics you write about, but the following tips are great starting points.
#1. Your own experience.
Your interests, your knowledge, and the things you do every day are one of the best sources for post ideas. If you're a parent and you have spent the day dealing with a sick, whiny child, there may be another parent out there that could benefit from reading your ideas for coping with it. A marketing specialist will find tons of interested readers if they share their own experiences. A talented photographer will have all sorts of useful advice to share with amateurs. Writing about the things you love and the topics you understand is typically much easier than posting on a subject that requires research and is an endless source for new ideas.
#2. Your struggles
While writing what you know is a great way to share your experience, writing about your challenges is one of the best ways to benefit yourself as well as others. Think about your biggest struggles, the things you would like to learn, or questions that still need an answer and add those to your list of ideas. Have you wanted to learn how to plant a kitchen her garden - write a new hub about it! Maybe you need to create a budget but don't know where to start - a post on budgeting basics could help someone else just as much as it does you.
#3. Other bloggers and hubbers
One of the great things about HubPages is the request feature. Answering requests is a great way to post on interesting topics without spending hours searching for something to write about! But reading what other people write about can be just as inspiring. Join category fan clubs and connect with other hubbers that share your interests. Set aside time to read posts from others on a regular basis. You will be surprised how someone else's words can spark your own great ideas! Mentioning your fellow bloggers and hubbers is also a great way to network and expand your own writing.
#4. News wires, newsletters, and A-list blogs
Discussing what the big guys are talking about seems like a logical way to attract attention to your own posts. Simply rehashing the news or creating a hub that repeats information from your favorite pro blogger will not bring the results you want. The key to using mainstream sites and news sources to get ideas for your own posts is to create a unique perspective on the story. Subscribe to popular blogs within your niche; read newsletters and content from other experts in your area of interests; stay up to date on the latest news and trends.

My Favorite Sources of Inspiration
When it comes to creating my own post ideas, there are several places I turn to for inspiration and new ideas. My challenges and daily lessons in life are a major influence on my writing, but I depend on a lot of other sources:
- A big portion of what I write about comes from the news service on my mobile phone. I can read the latest headlines wherever I am and email myself a copy of those that trigger interesting post ideas.
- My business partner, Yona Williams, is an excellent resource for new post ideas. Friends who keep an eye out for interesting happenings and headlines that relate to your interests can be a great help!
- When I'm stuck for a post idea, I read quotes until I find something that inspires a fresh title. My iGoogle page is full of quotes on everything from love to motivation and there are thousands of quotation websites for more inspiration.
- I read several different blogs and gain new ideas from quite a few of them, but my favorite sources of online inspiration come from Darren Rowse at ProBlogger and my friend Adam Singer at the Future Buzz.

I second that. For me it's mainly requests and other people's hubs that inspire me. You have added a number of interesting sources!
This is a really useful hub. Thanks for sharing the info.
Dear Danielle, you made a nice list about where to get new ideas for writing. I also like browsing old books; slowly walking around the City and observing life, shops and people and I also use Bloglines as my news and blog aggregator to fast browsing through hundreds of different posts every day.
Danielle, all good ideas. You're right -- coming up with new ideas is challenging, but the challenge is half the fun. Keep writing! Julie
Thanks for the comments and the additional GREAT suggestions to you all! I really like the thought of taking a walk and observing your surroundings for inspiration!!!
I agree, Julie, the challenge of finding new ideas is half the fun :-)
Great Hub Page. I really like number 1 & 3 they are two of my favorites However they all are work.
I would also like to add that I drive sometimes 3 hours to get to my jod, not always but often. We call it windsheild time. Well that is a great time for me to dump my thoughts, I have a little inexpensive tape recorder that I use as a verbal note pad. I find it hard to drive and write or type (just kidding).
Thanks so much for sharing, you ROCK!

Great Hub, Danielle - coming up with fresh ideas can be incredibly difficult, especially to try and come up with something relatively unique as well. Great tips and I'll be checking some of your resources out! :)
