THE SPARKLE OF A DIAMOND RING

The sparkle of a diamond ring,
entraps two souls as one.
The sparkle now has all but died,
A circle come undone.

What used to be a lovely flower,
has lost its strength to bloom.
The dried up petals of hurt and pain,
blacken a once bright room.

The scrapbook of sweet relics gone,
captured reflection of marriage bliss.
A cold, phlegmatic touch of lips -
replace the once impassioned kiss.

The touching love, he once gave her,
intimate passion of vivacious desire.
Now distrusting jealousy and sefishness,
succeed to extinguish the fire.

She cries sorrowfully, each night alone,
he and others mingle and play.
He stole her heart then tore it up,
Her dignity - he threw away.

The sparkle of a diamond ring,
entraps two souls as one.
The sparkle now has all but died,
a circle come undone.

I love diamonds, but not to flaunt them -- I just love them.

Your poem is powerful. I feel that it nibbles at the strengths and frailties of the human being.

Thank you!! The day I wrote this, I think I went through a box of Kleenex and kept soaking my paper and having to rewrite. Funny how very intense and sad moments can bring out the best in us...

Potent words, maybe a little too potent, "A cold, phlegmatic touch of lips -

replace the once impassioned kiss" although this was an endearingly sad poem, that line made me smile. Isn't that what love and love lost is? A bit of reality always bumping into the dreaminess of romance.

Great poem Mrs. B!

Ben
