The Top 10 Best Fashion Blogs
85With magazine sales dwindling and some publications even shutting down completely, you’d think we’d be in the middle of a fashion inspiration crisis. But it’s O.K. because when deciding whether to spend $30 on five issues of magazines per month or saving up for a few months and buying a cute little blazer from Zara, it’s obvious which decision is more sustainable. While the blazer will you keep you warm and stylish for at least a few seasons, the magazine lasts for about one read in the bath and then it’s soggy and outdated. Instead, you can have both a new blazer and all the fashion inspiration you need by reading fashion blogs! While it’s probably a bad idea to bring your Mac book into the bath, fashion blogs are constantly updated, environmentally friendly (think of all that paper you’re saving!), allow you to post opinions to other bloggers and did I mention that they’re completely free? Below, I have created a list of my top ten, favorite fashion blogs of all time. Enjoy!
The Fashion Blogs:
The Sartorialist (www.thesartorialist.com) - This blog was started by Scott Schuman, a man who made his mark by taking stunning photographs of stylish people on the streets of New York City. With his finely tuned eye, Scott was able to use the power of the Internet to merge street style with high fashion. It is because of him that ordinary people are suddenly becoming famous trendsetters and why high-end designers are looking more and more to the streets for inspiration. He has since gone on to shoot ad campaigns for fashion houses like DKNY and has even written a style blog for New York’s Fashion Week on Vogue’s website (http://www.style.com/fashionshows/sartorialist/).
Garance Dore (http://www.garancedore.fr/en/) - Garance’s blog is a French take on the fashion world. It features photographs of beautifully dressed men and women as well as cute little sketches of fashionable girls drawn by Garance herself. Additionally, Garance’s witty banter, which accompanies most of her blog posts, makes it impossible not to fall in love with her Parisian charm. Why even The Sartorialist himself has fallen for this fashion darling - Scott and Garance are now dating, très adorable!
Le Fashion (http://lefashionimage.blogspot.com/) - Le Fashion features everything from interesting fashion spreads, to upcoming designers, to celebrity style. Le Fashion is updated daily and always manages to post inspirational images that you would be hard-pressed to find on your own. This blogger has an eye for style and is able to pick out the best from the clutter that comprises the fashion world. Also be sure to check out her other blogs, including Le Love (http://leloveimage.blogspot.com/), which features photographs, quotes and original stories from both herself and her readers on the topic of love.
WhoWhatWear.com (www.whowhatweardaily.com) - As this blog puts it “We don't care who you date or if you eat. We only care about what you are wearing”. That being said, WhoWhatWear.com offers an almost obsessive take on the current state of fashion. Every day, a new collage is posted featuring celebrity styles, trends, and my personal favorite – “MySpace Muses”, which features WhoWhatWear.com’s myspace friends in all of their fashion glory. If you want a comprehensive, no-fuss site that allows you to quickly pick up trends, then this is the place for you!
The Selby (www.theselby.com) -Todd Selby, the creator of this site, pops into homes and offices of creative minds around the world and snaps quirky pictures of both the inhabitants and their interesting habitats. For those of you who never thought a kitchen sink or sofa could give inspiration, think again. The beautiful and bizarre spaces found on this site will make you re-think your aesthetic and encourage you to expand your passion for fashion outside of your wardrobe.
StyleBubble (stylebubble.typepad.com) - Susie Lau, a cute girl with thick black bangs from London, started StyleBubble to share her obsession with fashion with the world. She takes adorable photos of herself in various outfits and makes it possible to bring trends from the runway to real life on an smaller budget, but with lots of creativity. The blog, which was born in 2006, has now catapulted Susie into fashion icon status; she is now is popping up on other fashion blogs as a trend-setter herself. Susie has recently started writing for Dazed Digital, (http://dazeddigital.com/userprofile/Default.aspx?username=susie) where she covers topics related to fashion!
Vanessa Jackman – (www.vanessajackman.blogspot.com) this blogger is a rather new addition to the street style photographer category. The site is described as “a blog about a girl, her Nikon and a great big love affair”. She recently created an entire spread on street style at Paris Fashion Week SS 2010 called “Running with the Fash Pack” which features beautiful photographs of impeccably dressed men and women. Her site is definitely one to watch!
KnightCat (www.knighttcat.com/) KnightCat has a great eye for the newest trends. From upcoming faces to new, inspiring photographers she always knows whats up in the fashion world. She also constantly updates with editorials from magazines that you would never get to purchase anyway, like Vogue Russia and Vogue Italia. Just another reason why blogs are better than magazines – world wide distribution.
TheCherryBlossom Girl – (www.thecherryblossomgirl.com) This blog was created by Alix, a french graduate from fashion school who started her very her own fashion line. She posts gorgeous photos of herself in original outfits and also creates her own editorials - a recent photo shoot of hers was shot in a creepy graveyard! I also swear that she was responsible for the new trend of sheer black leggings covered with tiny polka dots!
Fashionologie –(www.fashionologie.com) Fashionologie was started by a twenty-something student who needed an outlet to express her fashionable thoughts while studying at an ivy league college. She constantly updates on all the latest news in the fashion world including collaborations between designers, updates on stylists and more! This lucky blogger was even recently featured on the hit MTV show The City where she was interviewed by Elle Magazine for an article on fashion bloggers.
