Live Trees For Christmas

Now you are most likely thinking that I am going to go off on a ramble about how HUMANS are destroying our planet with all of this chopping and cutting of trees going on routinely this time of year.

Well I am here to tell you... this is one form of taking down the trees that I am totally NOT against.

The thing is that this tradition is a very old, probably, a Pagan tradition, that has been adopted throughout many parts of the world. I will try to explain how I have come to, not only except but also, enjoy this magnificent display of celebration during the Christmas Season.

Caught you by surprise didn't I?

My Street Wise Education

One year when I was but a wee porcupette, I spotted my first tree ornament and thought I had died and gone to heaven.

You see, we rodents love to eat and I was sure that I had discovered the largest piece, of abandoned chocolate in history.

I believe it was my first year living without my Mum. The Halloween Holiday had recently passed and I had survived my first lesson in the mystery of Human Traditions.... the mouth watering marvel of chocolate.

Mum never brought such treats to the nest. I am positive she devoured them upon any discovery of her own, now that I am educated in the delicacy of chocolates.

I was quick to drag this huge hunk of heaven back to my tree to chow on for hours. Little did I know. This giant piece of cellophane was nothing more than a chunk of Styrofoam disguised to be magic in a wrapper.

I chewed and I chewed and I spat and I spat.

I was so disappointed that I cried myself to sleep before days light. The next night I was out and about in a hurry and hungry as I had missed out on dinner the night before.

In my search for a quick meal I found myself chewing the bark of a tree close to my own. There came a loud calling of WHO WHO WHOOO was chewing below. It frightened me at first.

I started babbling my story of starvation and frustration and the Owl above my head went to laughing so hard that she almost fell to the ground. She was lost in hysteria for a good moment before she composed herself and flew in a little closer.

She pointed out to me that I was not going to survive my first winter alone if I did not gather some street wisdom. The old Owl began her first lecture and shared her wisdom on the ways of the world. A friendship was born....AND my education on Christmas Decorations had it's first chapter written.

What Is A Christmas Tree Without Ornaments?

Truly I am an avid tree hugger to the tips of my hairy, short legs. I have nothing but animosity for the Humans who disregard the forests of this planet. I feel it is an atrocity, how many HUMANS take the wildlife that inhabit the dwindling, majestic, stands of freedom, for granted....BUT, then there is Christmas.

Tears well up in my eye when I see the beauty and feel the magic, as neighborhoods across the land, light up the trees, painting the landscapes, one by one, with lights and decorations. Yes, it is the most wonderful honor to indulge in this magnificent celebration and tradition.

Believe it or not I have a nice collection of ornaments I hang to adorn my own home tree.

They are easy to come by. HUMANS live a fast paced life and many ornaments get lost in the big trees that are placed by the curbside each year, after the holidays. A walk through the near by streets is always good for a decoration or two. I manage to drag them back to the tree house.

There is another hub that is nice for those of you who are interested in ornament history. Take a look at this hub by guidebaba and learn more about them. Best be sure not to forget to finish reading my hub here.

I might add a pop quiz at the end just to test you!

Another hub I ran across was this one and it has all kinds of good intention. Take a look and see what dineane does with recycled items to create magical decorations. Ain't she doing good for this planet with her work? This is great stuff and well worth sharing.

But don't forget that quiz!

As A Precaution

Humans keep pets for some reason and pets and Christmas Trees can be a bad combination. Looks like the kitty in the photo is living in bliss but Christmas Trees and the decorations can present harmful situations for the other animals in your household. Be sure to take every precaution to avoid a holiday mishap for all the members in your clan.

A Tree For The Record

Shirley Anderson has an avatar for the holiday season that I find luring. The photo is worth all the positive words associated with Christmas Tree Glory. I felt totally compelled to include this link so everyone could take a gander at her lovely tree. Take a look and while you are there you should read Shirley's hubs about Christmas. She is a special kind of Human.

United By Love

Now that I am growing older and grayer I have come to look forward to the Humans way of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. This is a time of peace and happiness that spreads like wildfire as the days grow shorter and the nights grow longer. Many nights I sit and watch as the sky blinks and twinkles, colored lights flashing the news of uplifted spirits encompassed by hope and joy. The trees are simple and grand and short and tall but all of the trees represent a feeling of unity and comfort for anyone who will open their heart to the vision. Love fills the darkness and my own heart is warmed.

What a spectacular tradition.... The Christmas Tree

A Tradition To Nurture

No I do not oppose this fine tradition of cutting and chopping those trees for the season. The fact is that most trees are grown on farms these days. That is right. There are very special farms that spend the entire year devoting their work to the production of Christmas Trees. They grow many varieties and sizes to choose from. It is an intriguing venture and one that does much good beyond the fulfillment of trees for the season.

Christmas Tree farms provide much needed plant life to help the environment with green side effects that are positive for the atmosphere. This is a good thing. The trees will eventually be cut down but, in the mean time they will provide shelter for many of Mother Natures critters and, food for my wildlife friends. Watch the video next door and maybe next time you buy a live tree you will want to take the entire family. Gather the clan and head to your nearest Christmas Tree Farm. Make an everlasting memory for both young and old and create another family tradition.

Very good. We are looking at putting up a live tree outside, putting lights up, and decorating it with the intent of feeding nature through the winter. I'm getting really excited about doing it. Got any tips on that? Might have to put in a request for that.

Most interesting my dear...I loved the story at the end about the tree farm in Vermont....and where I live we replace every tree cut with 2...and though I have gone to a fake green tree (because of childcare reason's) I love a real tree more then anything...and as a child always had one...but here it gets very cold and we use a fireplace for heat...so a real tree seemed to dangerous to me....

Thanks you for a lovely recall of memories and a MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and  HAPPY NEW YEAR...G-Ma :O) HUGS

I had it at the bottom and was sure you missed it when you made no mention in your first comment. SOOOOO, I put it up there where I was sure everyone would see it. Have a drink and a nap anyway.

Dottie, thank you for dropping by and peeking.
