The Weird Thing About Babies
53I held my nephew for the first time on Friday. As I look down upon his petit perfection he opened his eyes, gazed into my face, and pooped. I wasn't offended however since he proceeded to just stare at me. He is perfect. His little mohawk, which he was born with, gives him a little rebel look. But it's hard to be tough when you can't lift your own head or wear primarily pastel outfits.
I never really realized how helpless babies are at first. They can't hold their own heads up, they poop in their own pants, and they spit up on themselves. Come to think of it that sounds a lot like a frat boy in college. Nonetheless I love him. As I got to experience my first serge of motherly instincts I realized I would do anything for this baby. That is, except change diapers. His parents can do that ;)

Newborn babies are magical, aren't they? They put you under their spell and you can't help love them! Congrats on becoming an aunt. :)
I felt much the same way when my first nephew was born. He spit up on me every time I held him. My younger nephew is more of a kindred spirit; he smiled at me a lot and lisped out my name. I'm nowhere near becoming a mother, but I know what you mean about that surge of maternal instinct. They're pretty powerful for totally dependent creatures, aren't they?
Newborn babies...they gotta be astoundingly cute 'cuz they can certainly be a TON of work! But having a little nephew like this will certainly give you a close up view of the fun and the frustrations of parenthood!
It is amazing how such beautiful little creatures can make such a big mess. Oh and be so loud. I have two older boys 8 and 6. But we just had our third who is 4 months. The love you eventually share and the fun raising them and watching them grow make it well worth it. I just need to remind myself of this when he is still waking up and crying in the middle of the night. It seems like my boy might be teething already. Oh well sleep is overated anyway. I will do plenty of that when I die. Congrats on the nephew, he is cute.
