One Too Many Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

"My facial cosmetic surgery procedures to date have made me look unnatural. I want my new cosmetic surgeon to made me look more natural". This is a quote from a plastic surgery devotee on the television program Doctor 90210. The program is a fly on the wall account of cosmetic surgery procedures and clinics in Beverley Hills, USA, its doctors and patients.

The lady in question had already had over thirty surgical procedures performed, mostly on her face, and she had come to the conclusion herself that she was beginning to look a bit ”manufactured”. So she was back to see her cosmetic surgeon to have yet more surgery performed. This time she wanted him to make her look more natural. Did you get that? The cosmetic surgery to date has made her look unnatural so what is her solution? More cosmetic surgery to reverse the effects of the cosmetic surgery.

In a similar vein, more people die in the USA from the secondary effects of the drugs they take than from the illnesses for which they take the drugs in the first place? Take a drug to overcome the effects of the drug you took to overcome the effects of the drug you took to overcome the effects of the drug you took because you weren’t feeling well. Does this seem indicative of a sick society?

The Cosmetic Surgeons

There is even one cosmetic surgeon in Beverley Hills who offers what he has coined “the Wonder Woman Makeover”. A nip here, a tuck there, various bits of lifting, breast enhancements, chin and nose alterations, some liposuction, fat displaced from stomach to backside to give a more rounded bottom, and at the end, hey presto you look at least ten years younger. He will even reconstruct the woman’s vagina to restore its natural, youthful elasticity, and therefore increase sexual pleasure for both the woman and her male partner.

This is all very well, but my question is, nowadays when you meet a woman, how on earth do you know who and what you are dealing with? What did she look like before she was reconstructed, and even more worrying, what will she look like in twenty or thirty years time when the inevitable deconstruction sets in? What happens when everything that could be tightened has already been stretched to breaking point, when the silicon breast implants have to be taken out or begin to leak, and there is no more natural breast tissue left?

Those voluptuous beasts, thrusting themselves outward, so tantalizingly round and firm and just asking to be caressed, are they in fact no more than mounds of molded silicon? I don’t know about you, but the thought of caressing a lump of silicon fills me with dread; almost as much as the thought of fornicating with a blow-up plastic doll does.

The Perfect Female Body?

If the forty-something lady in question were to remove her bikini, would I see scars under her stomach where her excess of belly fat has been removed, more scars on her backside where the fat from her belly has been added, and a super-tight, youthful vagina, which would be more at home on an 18 year old girl, staring back at me?

Naturally, you can’t be an all American woman today without an absolutely perfectly-shaped, whiter-than-white set of teeth. And then of course, there is the hairpiece, the face make-up, the eye make-up, false nails, false eyelashes, the high-heels to make the legs look more shapely, lenses to change eye-colour to match the colour that the hair has been dyed. Have I forgotten anything?

What a shame. What ever happened to natural beauty?

When will we learn that in fact, beauty comes from the inside? When will we start to nurture ourselves from the inside out? When will we acknowledge that what we think, say and do is more important than what we look like? Appearances are ephemeral, ever changing, and cannot be tampered with indefinitely.

Be Beautiful on the Inside

Nature will always win in the end. Eventually the body will droop, sag and wrinkle. Bits will fall off and those that remain will no longer work properly. This is the natural rhythm of things and it is called ageing, evidently a dirty word in BeverleyHills, where nobody gets older, as long as they can afford not to.

It is scientifically proven that there is a beneficial psysiological response to positive, nurturing stimulus through laughter, music and positive, uplifting thoughts.

If you are peaceful and joyful on the inside, then you will look good on the outside. Your inner state of being will shine through. If you have ever seen or met a person who has found inner peace and joy, you will know what I mean. Their inner bliss radiates outwards, through every cell of their body. Such a person has no need of “beauty products”, their own inner beauty is far more appealing than that which any amount of plastic surgery could achieve.

Just think what a real difference it would make if we sought to develop and nurture our own inner beauty instead of our outer beauty. If we filled our heads with beautiful thoughts, instead of filling our cupboards with creams, pills and potions. Instead of running to the doctor for more medication at the first sign of any ailment, and running to our cosmetic surgeon at the first sign of wrinkles or sagging flesh.

We could all probably do with some reconstruction. Not with cosmetic surgery and hairpieces, but by working on who we are on the inside. It takes longer to achieve but the results are longer lasting, much more satisfying, and are also much kinder on the bank balance.

our society PRODUCES illnesses. So we produce pills and remedies to heal ourselves from the ill effects of living in this society. Astonishing that performing surgical procedures on our healthy faces and bodies is a "symptom" of society, but also that society was created by us too...man gives birth to man gives birth to neurosis gives birth to...yeah, I'm going around like a wheel. Time to stop. Great writing, sanny.

Too much cosmetic surgery is scary. But I still like the creams and stuff, not so much because I believe they turn you into a swan but because they're a lot of fun.

nice article, I am American and it absolutely saddens me that women cannot accept their natural beauty and aging as part of life. the false beauty is hard to look at. I agree that the inner life affects the outer and have had nothing done to enhance who I am. I've been told I still look like I did 20 years ago.. not sure about that, but sure love being a natural woman. thanks for writing!

Ha, love some of your comments! Good points; we, as a society, are obsessed with looking young and perfect. Taking care of one's body is one thing, but obsessing about every little line or sag is a big waste of time. I'm not perfect in this respect, either, but I'm a whole lot better than when I was younger. I finally made peace with my thighs in my 30's, my upper arms in my late 40's, and I'm working on getting to love my neck; which is no longer tight and smooth!

No matter how much plastic surgery one has, your real age is rarely hidden. If you want a little nip or tuck, here and there to feel better about your age, then fine. But personally, I'd rather pocket the money and take a trip to Europe where women are allowed to grow old gracefully and are respected for their position and wisdom.

Hollywood needs to get a grip; 40 is not old and there are one hell of a lot of us boomers out there who are TIRED of seeing plastic Barbie Dolls who can't act for crap all over the screen. The country as a whole needs to rethink our priorities. While we're looking in the mirror, the rest of the world is passing us by in Education and other things that really do matter.

It is true that no one wants to get old but people who have cosmetic surgery to excess usually end up looking like caricatures. We all have to grow old and we need to accept it. Old people with bodies which have been lifted and tucked, etc, will still be physically old. They will still be needing the walking frames and sticks.

I think cosmetic surgery should be available for people who have suffered burns or accidents but I don't agree with it for vanity. In the end we have to accept that we age. It is a fact of life. If these celebrities stopped drinking to excess and taking drugs and damaging their bodies in other ways, they would find that they can look a lot younger than their age.
