Who doesn't appreciate the sound a wine bottle opener makes when its corkscrew pulls a cork free from a wine bottle. It's probably my favorite sound in the world. But when you say wine bottle opener it could mean many things. There are many styles of openers out there and some are extremely simple to use while others it seems you need a manual to figure out. Some of them are electric and some have wings, some have knives to cut the foil away while some do everything for you; you just fit it over the neck of the wine bottle and voila, it's opened. There are a hundred or more types of wine bottle opener on the market for the simple purpose of uncorking a bottle of wine.

A Wine Bottle Opener For Everyone

We're going to talk about a few of the types of wine bottle openers in this article. If you've ever experienced some trouble opening a wine bottle because you weren't familiar with the particular wine opener then hopefully this list will point you in the right direction to an easier way. For some people they could just as easily choose a wine bottle with a screw cap and that is fine because these days screw caps aren't viewed as the caps to jug wines anymore. They seal some pretty respectable houses in the wine industry. Still for others, myself included, we appreciate the ceremony involved with popping a cork from a bottle of red wine. So let's look at a few wine openers and see which one would work best for you.

Which Wine Opener

The waiter wine opener is our first stop as this is probably the most recognized of openers. You have seen many a waitperson use this kind, I'm sure. It is the one that fits in your palm and has the fold out helix corkscrew and foil knife. The waiter seems to ease the corkscrew into the wine cork effortlessly and POPs the cork with as much ease. If you have ever had the chance to use one of these however, you will know that it is somewhat difficult for the uninitiated.

The next one to mention is the screwpull wine opener. This one also has a corkscrew but it looks like a clothespin. You fit it over the bottle neck and twist the handle on top of the clothespin which turns the corkscrew into the cork. Then you just grab and pull. This one is more difficult than the one the waitperson uses, especially if the cork is a little dry. There's really no leverage and breaking the cork becomes very likely.

Next on the list is one everyone has seen because it's the one that is standard in almost any convenience store, grocery store or pharmacy like CVS: The winged wine bottle opener. This is the one that is usually bright red and has the two arms that flap like wings. There's a loop handle on top and the corkscrew is inside the red body. The whole thing looks like a girl in a hoop dress. A very metal girl in a hoop dress. With no legs. Of the two I've previously mentioned, this one is by far the easiest because once you get the corkscrew started it basically pulls itself into the cork as you twist the handle. The arms rise as the cork sinks and when you get it far enough in, you just pull both of the arms down and the cork comes out.

Let's hop into the good stuff and talk about the Rabbit wine bottle opener. Did you like that segue? The rabbit wine opener claims it can open a bottle of wine in three seconds. Quick, like a bunny. It even has the shape of bunny ears. Kind of. It's a heavy duty piece of nylon equipment that comes with its own storage case and an assortment of wine tool goodies like a foil cutter, drip ring, a bottle sealer and wax remover. It's a bit pricey, but I suppose the case and goodies make it a worthy investment.

One last one I will mention is the electric wine bottle opener. This one is the easiest of all if you have arthritis or are just plain inept with the other four. You just put the electric wine opener over the top of the bottle and say the magic words and POP, you have wine. It can easily open 30 or more bottles with a single charge, which is to say it is cordless with a rechargeable base. One of the more popular brands is the Oster wine opener. It opens your bottle in a few seconds and all you do is hold it in place. The soft handle makes it very easy to grip.

If you want to spend some money on your wine bottle opener then you can find any of these online. However, if you are wary of buying stuff on the internet then you can certainly find these items in any wine local shop. Check out the video below to see just how simple it is to open a bottle of wine. Yeah, right.
