The majority of people will look at this title and wonder, "Now why do I want to know the wrong way to do Network Marketing?" Well lets just look at one major statistic about this industry, the attrition rate. Network Marketing (MLM) has an attrition rate of 95%.
In other words folks that is a 95% drop out rate, or failure rate. What ever verb, adjective you use to describe it, 95% is incredibly high. The conclusion one can draw from this is, it seems that there are not many people doing it the right way. So by reading about the wrong way, perhaps this article is the catalyst to assisting someone to become part of the successful 5% of network marketers.
It would seem the wrong way to do network marketing (mlm), direct sales, is chasing after people, friends and family. Yet amazingly enough the majority of people continue to introduce their business to the wrong people. The average network marketer is taught by their up-line to chase, beg and convince people to join their business.
This type of training flys' right in the face of basic marketing 101. You don't chase after the customer, you draw the customer to you. Any time a company chases after a customer they set themselves up at a disadvantage. They become needy, weak and brand themselves as unworthy of you the customer.
Think about most network marketers in the business today and this is what you see. Pushing the idea of joining their biz opp, becoming very aggressive and potentially straining the relationship they have with family and friends.
Take a moment and just role play this scenario with me. You're going about your day minding your own business, running some errands such as going to the grocery store. You're in the grocery store line up, and the person next to you strikes up a conversation with you. No problem, you're polite and you begin speaking to this person.
Suddenly they go into how they found this great business, and are you looking to make some extra money. They begin asking you if you would like to see the presentation, look at this dvd, or can they have your phone number.
How do you feel at that moment? Attacked? Ambushed? Annoyed?
Probably all of the above. And you end up looking at this person as someone you would not want to get hooked up with, especially in a network marketing or direct sales business opportunity. Right off the bat you feel backed into a corner, and more importantly you were not actively looking or searching for this information. You feel forced upon and nobody likes that feeling.
That ladies and gentlemen is certainly the wrong way to do Network Marketing or Direct Sales.
Lets just touch upon how the right way to do this business. Please keep in mind this is only one of the many forms and techniques you can learn to be successful in the Network Marketing, Direct Sales industry.
There are some people who have achieved significant success in Network Marketing by talking to people, friends and family. However, when you really watch and analyze them you see certain fundamental characteristics. They have a particular easy laid back style and are
not pushy. They are very strong in the skill sets of communication and networking. They easily and effortlessly present the opportunity in a non assertive manner and do it with absolute confidence.
Unfortunately the majority of people are not trained in these skills. They are taught to go forth and conquer by speaking, cajoling, forcing and being overly assertive. They resort to being the overly aggressive pushy sales person attempting to convince you that this is exactly what you need.
