The Young Ones
77
There’s a new crop of talented young
singers emerging all over the world. Here is a tribute to some of them.
Ginoble-Boschetto-Barone
This trio entranced the audience in
the Italian music variety show called ‘Ti lascio una canzone’ or ‘Leaving you a Song’. Gianluca Ginoble,
Ignazio Boschetto and Piero Barone sang with emotion and were compared to the great legends Carreras, Domingo and Pavarotti.
O Sole Mio
This popular Neopolitan song,
written in the late nineteenth century by Giovanni Capurro, with the
music composed by Eduardo
di Capua, has been sung by the legendary opera singers as well as
popular pop and rock singers. The title of the song means ‘Oh My Sun’.
Declan John Galbraith
He’s all of 18 and he’s been singing
for a number of years. His Scottish-Irish origins and his musical grandfather
influenced him rather early. His songs form a part of the Chinese ‘Learning
English’ curriculum. He sang ‘Amazing Grace’ at St. Paul’s Cathedral London for
the Queen’s Jubilee Concert accompanied by the St. Paul’s Choir. He lives near
Rochester, Kent.
Amazing Grace
The song has an amazing history. John Newton was a slave trader till one night, a storm made him realize just how helpless he was and only God’s grace could keep him going. He joined the Church and wrote a hymn for every weekly prayer service. This was most likely one of them.
Libera
Robert Prizeman directs this group
of young boys from Norbury, South London who prefer to be known as a boy band
rather than a choral group. The age ranges from seven to sixteen and they have
been very successful on radio, TV, stage and film. They perform around the
world and their young voices have a wonderful soul-stirring quality about them.
All Things Bright And Beautiful
This famous hymn was written by Cecil F. Alexander in 1848 and is thought to have been inspired by a line from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge. James Herriot used the first four lines as titles for four of his widely read books.
Aria Tesolin
She’s been singing since she was
three and is probably the youngest opera singer today. This young singer from
Canada speaks both English and French and can sing in five different languages.
She has a powerful voice that is very emotive and she sings many of the popular
arias – she’s truly well named.
Un Bel Di
Translated, it means ‘a beautiful
day’ and this song is from Act II of Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Set in
Japan, it has been said that the events in the opera actually took place. It is
the most performed opera in the USA today. It’s a song of love and hope.
Connie Talbot
At six, she wowed the audience on the sets of Britain’s Got Talent and then she was turned down by Simon Cowell on the pretext that she was too young to be signed on by his company as a recording artist. So that took Connie to the US where she’s been very sought after with appearances on Oprah’s as well as Ellen Degeneres’ shows. She has two top selling singles to her credit today.
Over the Rainbow
Written by E.Y. Harburg with music composed by Harold Arlen, this famous song is commonly referred to as ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’. It was a hit song from the hit movie Wizard of Oz and it has been ranked as one of the greatest songs of all time.

That Italian trio is amazing! Thanks for this list Shal...am going to have to listen to all at leisure. I know you're very well updated with young singers, but this is definitely not your daughter's choice! :)
Simon Cowell is an @$$. He only thinks about making talents on the BGT show his cash cow and not of nurturing young talents. :(
I'm sure there are a hundred wonderful singers within a thirty minute drive of my house. As I addressed in my hub Lord of the Talents; I'm sure at least one percent of the population has a big time level talent but there are only a handful of jobs. Salemanship or the ability to market is the Lord of the Talents. With that you can make money with average talent without it you won't make a dime with the greatest of talents.
Thanks Shalini. These are some amazing singers and they can really tear you up. Is it that the talented lot are getting younger these days or just that we are recognizing the talent earlier? I love Declan and Connie.
BP - thanks for coming by - I couldn't resist using the melody of the first line of one of my favourite songs - glad you hummed along!
FP - aren't they just? Haha - no - not quite her choice!
Sakari - ah well - I don't know - I admire the man! It could perhaps be that he didn't want to exploit someone so young! Here I go making excuses for him :D
Pete - you're so right. Off to read your hub now. Unless talent is packaged and presented well, it has no chance. However, thanks to these talent shows, more and more everyday talent is making it to centrestage!
Diana - like Pete said, maybe they are all around us - but there's so much exposure today, we get to hear them!
Fantastic!! I've had Connie Talbot's on my You Tube list for a couple of months.. I listen to it often, one of my favorite songs and she did an incredible job with it - for being only 6!!
I'm in awe of these kids!
Hi Shalini! Wow. It's amazing to hear those voices come out of the trio at the beginning. When I first saw them, I was thinking "The Three Toddlers," but then you hear them sing. You wrote Galbraith was 18? Now he looks like he's 12.
Great hub and lots of fun to watch and listen to the vids! Oh, putz, I hate to always be the one to tell people this, but "Libera" has been removed. Darn!
Man, Christoph, I thought it was me and couldn't get it to load!!!
Hi Candie - isn't she amazing? Thanks for reading and listening.
Christoph - I was struck dumb when I heard them!
Galbraith is 18 now - this was 7 years or so ago - at the Queen's Jubilee.
Thanks for letting me know about Libera - I checked them all but ah well! Anyways, have put another one in!
The young onss you featured deserve the spotlight indeed! They remind me of the first time I heard of Charlotte Church - such talent! Thanks for sharing, I've downloaded the videos :D
I love your layout! And the kids are just amazing, aren't they? I've heard most of these but you chose great videos. I'm coming back for more listens. Thanks.
Cris - she really was THE young one of the nineties, wasn't she? Thanks for coming by!
Frieda - thank you! Yes, aren't they just!
I got shivers up and down my spine when 'experiencing' this hub!
I hope those were 'good' shivers MB? :) Thanks for swinging by!
Truly great singing.
Thank you llanishen.
What a delightful way to start my day! Great information and a memorable musical experience. Loved the addition of the musical notation images...they made me realize how rusty my music reading skills are. Thumbs up!
Glad you liked it Sally! Aren't they all so talented?
What a wonderful thing to have such a collection all in one place! Thanks so much for this hub! I'll refer to it as a resource in the future!
Glad you enjoyed it Daniel - would have loved to include a lot of young Japanese musicians - but I've kept that for another hub!
Music has really won you over, Shal! Perhaps you are an accomplished musician yourself. :)
Love all music quicksand - I do play a bit but accomplished, no!
what a hub. Connie is cute.
Yes, isn't she?
Wow, what an impressive lot! I agree with an earlier commenter who basically said there's a lot of talent out there that never sees the light of day. Fortunately, with "modern" media (whatever that means), it's easier to get exposure now than it used to be. Too bad our showers at home don't come equipped with some sort of "vocal auto ranking" so that top singers (in the showers) can be ranked automatically and tabulated in some roaming satellite that gathers all this info. :-)
Reality shows with singing in the shower ratings? Sounds great nutuba! I might figure for the worst croaking ever :D
Times are changing.... earlier days only one in a million children used to get a chance to show off his talent to the world... with TV and internet... this has grown at least a 100 times...
Hi free4india - very true - the means to reach everyone and the way it is presented go a long way to letting many more have the chance to make it big.
