Anyone that has children, access to the internet, read a newspaper or watched TV in the last month will know about Zhu Zhu Pets. Cute and cuddly pet hamsters that kids just love. Each with a personality and language of its own they have been a huge success this Fall and look set to be the 'must have' gift for kids around the globe for the upcoming Holidays. But at what price? Look at Info-barrel, Hub-pages, Squidoo or any of the other thousands of article sites and writing portals favored by those trying to earn a living online and it seems lately they have all been taken over with tales of Chunk, Mr Squiggles and Co.

These cute toys, Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters really do seem to be taking over the Internet. The volume of searches on Google, Bing and the other search engines is unparallelled. It seems hamsters can really take over the world. Well that might be an exaggeration, after all they are really just rather cute toys, designed to be used in conjunction with a massive array of Zhu Zhu Accessories. Buy their own hamster houses and the cuties will repay you by squeaking differently depending on which 'room' they are in. Of course when the kids are traveling the Hamster Home is impractical, so for those times you really need a Zhu Zhu Carry Case in which your favorite pet can nestle, kept warm with their very own cute ´blankie' (supplied).

It all sounds rather delightful doesn't it. They are not even particularly expensive which is pretty surprising when you consider all the hype surrounding them and all the parents trawling cyberspace to find them. So, why is this an article entitled 'Zhu Zhu Pets – Too Close for Comfort?'. What have I got against the little bundles of furry, squeaky joy? Well, in theory absolutely nothing, and I have to say if I was several decades younger I would probably be pestering my folks for Mr Squiggles too, and yes I would want the carry case and hamster ball for him to play in. But, I am not several decades younger, I am in fact a proper grown up woman, with a proper grown up man about the house.

It is he that has sparked my suspicion of the Zhu Zhu Brigade. For over the last month I have seen a normally bright adult with a keen sense of male avoidance of all things fluffy, begin talking more and more about the Zhu Zhu Pets. In fact everything I know about the hamsters has been gleaned from his whimsical conversations. You see being a grown up with no kids I did not really feel the need to take any real notice of them. Until, that is the Zhu Zhus started to take over the world.

Okay, initially this was due to my man about the house being an internet marketer making money online. He stumbled upon Mr Squiggles & Co and made some cash, just like that. But of course this is where the problem begins. Every other hot blooded internet marketer also noticed the buzz surrounding Zhu Zhus and of course also began writing about how great they are and how cheaply they may be bought, but only through their links of course! So then my bloke earned a little less money, so needed to write more, and more and more. Now it seems he has written so much great content about how wonderful Zhu Zhu Pets are, he is beginning to sound almost evangelical about them in real life, even when the laptop is switched off!

As I bemoan our overly consumerist society and the pressure felt by parents to buy into each new kids craze, he responds with stories of how cute a fluffy hamster is that makes a different noise depending on whether he is in the 'kitchen' or the 'bathroom'. It would seem one of the perils of internet marketing is that you hypnotize yourself into believing all you write. Or maybe I just didn't know him as well as I thought and he just really does have a penchant for small furry toys (well, if they squeak).

So it would seem that those Zhu Zhu Pets really are too cute for comfort, they're turning my hot blooded male soft and I don't like it. I think, Mr Squiggles this could be war! I will not become another Zhu Zhu Pets widow!

So Remember do not allow your menfolk to take too much interest in Mr Squiggles and his friends or you are likely to see them taken over by the Zhu Zhu plot for world domination. These toys are dangerous in the wrong hands.

Wow, just when I thought the Zhu Zhu Pet Conspiracy was about to come to an end. I mean, come on no-one can still be ordering Christmas Gifts - can they? But now there are New Zhu Zhu Pets to drive every American kid wild with desire.

In addition to Mr Squiggles, Num Nums, Pipsqueak and Chunk (the old-timers of the Zhu Zhu - Go Go Pet world), we now have to get our grubby paws onto Jilly, Winkie, Nugget and Scoodles too. Will the hunt for pet hamster toys never end? And will toy makers desire to come up with daft names for cute hamsters never end either?

Thankfully prices are coming down from their early December hike which is good news for parents. But with 2010 looking set to be the Year of the Hamster, no matter what the Chinese say, be prepared for 'out of stock' notices once again!
