To do a complete kitchen remodel a home owner can reap a huge increase in the amount your house will sell for in the future. I know in this economy it’s not the best idea to try to sell your home. I do feel it’s not that bad of an idea to still do some remodeling in the event you want to sell your home. If the market hits bottom and home prices start to move back up you want to be in the position to sell your home to buy a bigger home at smaller price. Making a little home improvement to prepare your home for sale in the near future can be the best investment. The person needs to be aware they can also sink a significant amount of money into a kitchen remodel project.

What to consider for a complete kitchen remodel

When starting to bring in contractors to do an estimate to remodel your kitchen, you should be aware that costs depends typically depend on the quality of the merchandise, labor along with the size of your kitchen. You also need to consider what you currently have versus what you want. If you don’t’ have a garbage disposal or a dishwasher that requires plumbing and possibly additional wiring to plug in some extra appliances. The basics are listed below and should be considered if this is just a replacement or additional work needs to be done.

  • Kitchen Cabinets
  • Kitchen Counter tops
  • Installed KitchenIsland or replacement Kitchen Island
  • Replacement Appliances
  • Backsplash
  • Electrical (add new or replace old)
  • Plumbing (update old or replace new)
  • Gas line hook up( not necessary if electric stove)
  • Trim work
  • Painting
  • New floor (tile, linoleum) more expensive kitchen tile
  • New lighting-This could increase if your adding recessed lighting.

This is pretty detailed. However, when you decide you want to completely remodel the kitchen you need to really discuss with the contractors what you expect. You should have begin your research and include it in writing to each contractor prior to their bid. You should also tell them not to deviate from what you have stated on the paper because you intend to shop for other vendors and want to compare apples to apples or in this case remodeling vendors to remodeling vendors. Some of the things you want to consider is the type of appliances you would like for your kitchen. Is it your intention to have high end appliances or appliances that run in the middle of the road? You should also consider if you want your counter tops to be granite or if your cabinets will be a prefab or custom made for your home. To get the most accurate price for this remodel job you should stipulate exactly what you want before you contractors bid on your complete kitchen set with all the new kitchen gadgets for a full or complete kitchen remodel.

Nice article! Our kitchen, to put it frankly, sucks. I like your ideas, especially the need to consider all the utilities, appliances, etc to make sure you are really doing a complete kitchen remodel, and not just half-assing it.
