From when the First Mustang was introduced in 1964 to 1973 there have been many of different changes. The first Mustang was built half way throught 64 but was consider the "early 65" by ford. The first produced Mustang came with the 2.8L engine(straight-6) and 3 speed manual transmission. The average cost to buy one back then was around 2,300. Only a couple months after production of the first mustang, Changes where made. These cars are considered the "late 65". The enigne size went from the 2.8L to the 3.3L. On the first day April 17,1964 that Ford opened its doors with the mustang it sold 22,000 Mustangs. Within the first couple years of production of the mustang it made 1.5 million mustangs.
1967 was the first major restyling to the Mustang. The height and the lenght were increased to .5" and 2.7". The first big block engine with 30 HP, 390 cid engine. Also an all new trany, the FMX, which allowed fully auto or manual shifting.

Yet again in 69 alot of restyling was done. These newer Mustangs were 4' bigger then the previous years.New features for 1969 included quad headlights, the front parking lights were moved behind the front valance panel, different quarter panel ornaments as well as side scoops

The ignition switch was moved to the steering column. The engines changed slighty, the 351-2v and 351-4v cleveland replaced the 351 windsor.
1971 saw another major restyling change. August of 1970, the new Mustang was more than two inches longer . New engines for '71 were the Boss 351, the 429, and the Ram Air 429.The hood now cover the windshield wipers. Flush mounted door handles ,Power windows were offered for the first time. The interior had newer flashier gauges. Different bucket seats. In 1972 Mustang models saw no big styling changes, only minor cosmetic changes. During the early part of 1972, a special 351HO motor was available.
In 1973 again there wasn't many changes merely cosmetic. The parking lights were now placed vertically in the front grille. The 1973 Mustang convertible was to become the last Mustang convertible for many years.
