When starting a new website you really need a quality domain name url that is fully going to say what the site is about in just the targeted domain name alone.

Thinking up a great domain name though takes a little bit of brainstorming on a notepad, but bewarned most of the top ones you will think of have already been taken, so try to think in between the lines and try to dominate other search terms and long tail keywords that are specific to your niche or area of expertise.

Also it's good to have a domain name that has your main keyword in the actual domain name because every time you place that url link anywhere on the web with valuable content behind it, your backlinks will build far more effectively and result in a better page rank within the search engines.

I myself use some of the most common keyword tools such as overture and wordtracker, this builds up your list of keywords that you could include and also doing it this way you can weed out the more competitive keywords that are almost certain to be in someone elses domain name and also highly competitve to rank in the search engines for.

Long tail keywords seem to be the best way I've found and they are or can be actual keyword phrases that could be targeted to any one niche and it's these that are usually typed in to the search boxes, so you really need to do your research on this matter as a long tail keyworded phrase with no more than four words as a domain name is far better than a single word or term that could be hard to rank for.

Domain url names tend to be either one of two things.

Descriptive

When a domain name is descriptive it aready tells the person who is about to visit what to expect when at the site and 3 or 4 words can do this well.

Original But Not Descriptive (Company Brand Name)

A domain web address can be used also to direct the focus onto a company brand name that will have no search relevance or authority until it is well known or a household name. An example could be Yourname.com or zelgeethklop.com, brand names have the potential to get recognized over a long period of time or a shot period of time through intense marketing.

I recommend cracking a few low competition keyword urls that surround one of your main domain name urls

Do a search online to see what I mean, look at some of the domains that are used, see how they fit in anchor keywords and how you yourself can implement these into your campaigns once established, search engine placement is an important aspect of getting your site noticed, so get this part right and it will get you off to a great start.
