What is clicker training?

Well, It is a new and revolutionary way to train and communicate with your dog! I thought it was all bunk when I first heard about it but I am a firm believer now! I carry a clicker in the pocket of my grooming smock all the time now. Oh and treats too of course thats part of it too. It is training your dog through positive reinforcement when they do what is commanded they know they will get a click and a treat. This is a much better method than the spary bottle or the rolled up news paper! ( newspaper is for potty training and it should remain on the floor so the puppy can use it!:) If you are having Training issues with your dog I implore you to try Karen Pryors clicker training! I have a whole new outlook on dog training now that I started using it! It makes you feel kind of weird at first because the first couple of lessons you have to get your click treat reaction going and you are clicking and treating an imaginary dog. I know it sounds crazy but you won't believe the success you can have communicating with your best friend through this training!

papaer training, if not done properly can train the dog to GO in the house. You can use a rolled up paper to slap on your hand to tell the dog "no" same with the spray bottle.

Yes clicker training is a great positive reinforcement, but I find the spray bottle works well when the dog is doing something he's not supposed to whereas the clicker works well when the dog is doing something he is supposed to.

Great Hub, I'm apprenticing for a trainer position now, I see your hubs will come in handy for me. The company I am with uses different methods depending on the dog and what they respond to (i.e. clickers, simply saying "Ahh" at them or the spray bottle.

I do notice though with using the spray bottle that some breeds don't respond to it and actually think its a game or like the water hose.

The most important thing I've learned is consistancy and disciplining as soon as they do something wrong. You have to stay on top of your dog, and sometimes a little tough love by not giving them attention when they act stubborn or do something wrong works too.
