Having the chance to visit the Louvre Museum in Paris is something unforgettable. Firstly, its history is fascinating and captures everyone’s interest. Being more than 800 years old, the building was firstly one of the Philip Augustus fortresses. In 1981 it has been enlarged by Francois Mitterand and got its actual form having more than 400,000 exhibits in it and the famous and so much discussed about glass pyramid.
Maybe the most famous masterpiece hosted in the Louvre , Paris's pride and honor, is the enigmatic and so charming painting of Mona Lisa made by Leonardo da Vinci. When people are eager to find out more about the paining or better said the truth behind the painting, the best thing to do is to take a look at the person that has painted it. Leonardo da Vinci was a brilliant man who lived during the Renaissance; he was a perfectionist and a visionary. He always made lots and lots of sketches for everything he designed. Because he had the strong wish to have everything perfectly made, he was able to finish only few of his paintings and sculptures. Rumors have it that not even the Mona Lisa is a finished painting, but it is very impressive through the painting techniques Leonardo used to paint it: the sfumato technique, a technique that only he can master so well.
Hanging on the wall of the Louvre, Mona Lisa attracts attention through its mysterious smile and omniscience is mirrored in her peaceful eyes. This painting rose lots of questions among talented artists, scholars and media. Who was actually Mona Lisa? Isn’t this painting the female auto portrait of Leonardo da Vinci? Or which was the relationship between Leonardo and this woman? And why does that smile look so enigmatic?
Even though there can not be an exact answer for all of the questions, Mona Lisa is still very famous and charms everyone with her mystery, cheerful smile and eyes full of wisdom. Watching and thinking about Mona Lisa is a challenge during the tour through the Louvre.
In another part of this absolutely fantastic museum, there are the two women sculptures from the ancient time when the Greeks had their gods and goddesses. Nike, the goddess of victory and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty are having a remarkable beauty through their delicate but so sober body shapes.
Walking through the Louvre Paris isn’t is just a great interesting way to spend the holidays in France, it is the possibility to learn more about the beliefs and life style of the ancestors and to be closer to the brilliant artists that had a particular way to see the world and offer the people masterpieces of what their eyes saw.
