PARK HILLS — Of the population in any given locale, only a tiny percent will ever have a public building, park or event named in their honor. But there’s a name which can been found repeatedly in this region and, when spoken, automatically bring to mind thoughts of great basketball action — Bob Sechrest.

Ever since ancient times, people have been occupying their minds and time with games that involve thought and strategy and these games have been known as board games. Games like Chess and Mahjong have been recorded from historical journals dating back thousands of years ago.

There are board games that have existed for centuries and have provided pure mental fun up to this date despite of the many developments and modern concepts that have been installed in today’s board games. These classic games have provided kids and adults entertainment that is based on timing and thinking and in some cases, luck over the years.

Checkers is one of the most popular classic board games that have stood the test of time. It is considered to be one of the easiest strategic board games and is often taught to kids. This board game is enjoyed by adults who are looking for a relaxing but challenging game.

Another classic is Chess. This is the most popular strategic board game recognized all over the world. Each piece has a different level of power and moves which make the ability to foresee what could possibly happen next a challenge. The game shows strategy skills at its best – predicting your opponent’s moves while guarding your pieces as well – all requiring intense focus and mental concentration. Everyone admires the mind of a chess master and being best in the game proves how intelligent and wise you can be.

Backgammon is another classic game and is probably the oldest known strategy board game in history. You can tell by the rules and the goals of the game that it is very simple and easy too. You simply have to move your pieces from one side to another in the board.

Scrabble is another classic board game that is usually played to help improve one’s vocabulary. The goal is to outwit your opponents by creating more high scoring words. This game plays on your ability to think up of words that you can form with the seven random letters that you pick from the bag or incorporating those letters with available letters in the board to form a higher score.
