I am writing this full of passion, literally tears streaming down my face. Hoping that my amateur writing ability somehow captures the intense passion and emotion that I feel at this precise moment. I resist the temptation to wipe away my face even though the streaming tears blurs my vision and tickles my cheeks as it rolls down my unshaved skin. I believe that this is important to keep intact the authenticity of this moment. The pure emotion that I now feel, I feel alive, and if a picture is worth a thousand words, then this video requires no description.

When I first started this Blog a year ago, I wrote the story about Paul Potts, The contestant on the British version of American Idol. Now, I don’t follow the bubble gum culture that is dished out on T.V., the programming that is designed to keep us all preoccupied with inane topics, while the world falls deeper into hell in a hand basket. I guess America needs distraction in order to inoculate themselves from the viruses of destruction that run rampant throughout the earth right now like: Famine, War, Economic Destruction and Despair.

Yet, through the malaise there are rays of sunshine, of hope and of the shear triumph of the Human Spirit to remind us of the beautiful things and that man can still be capable of amazing things. This video to me, says so much…it is a testament to the power invoked when you can turn an audience around and even the most cynical of critics (Simon) and make them weep in vulnerability to the magic, and grace of Beauty.

I don’t know if what makes it so triumphant is that nobody in the room expected such a performance, or the fact that it is an Operetta, or the humble, childlike innocence in the face of this everyday guy, that was given a once in a lifetime opportunity to show his worth and justify his right to occupy space…and took his chance for all it was worth and exploded his destiny into existence to take his place among the greats.

We all are given that chance sooner or later; will you be ready when it comes?
This video never gets old, and I was surprised to find that a year later it still had such an effect on me. O.K. the tears have dried…It’s your turn.
