The war against Warts.

Uhh-Yuk-Warts!

I haven't seen nor kissed a toad in many a year , so how come I have two warts on my left hand ring finger right beside the nail ?

(How are you able to use nail polish or nail extensions with those "uglies" curling over your nail-bed?)

According to the encyclopedias toads really don't have anything to do with warts . Warts are skin growths or benign skin tumors caused by a many different strained virus called papilloma.

Mostly the common wart is skin-colored with a hard cauliflower like surface.

Judging by how much money I've spent over the past couple of years to rid myself of these warts , I wonder how many millions of dollars are spent annually on wart treatments worldwide ?

From my own experience these medical treatments come in a few different types, with some even being painful. Freezing, zapping, burning with lasers etc... are common medical treatments.

I think I've tried them all and hello there they are again or still ...

My Doctor said these warts are caused by a virus infection and therefore will disappear on their own, sooner or later, it might take a couple of years but...then again they could also grow and spread .

To be frank with you, I've been battling these "little monsters" for almost five years now, if they were going to move on they would have done so by now because as I said I've tried most every type of medical "eviction method". They do not get the hint that they are not welcome. So far nothing has worked.

Internet research here we come... Home remedies from the olden times-versus modern day products-versus old wives tales.

I've found quite a few- some maybe a little obscure, some even vile and some totally ridiculous...

I'm thinking I'll have a hard time tracking down a witch, a gypsy for help or someone dumb enough to buy the warts from me. So I'll just skip those.

Methodology would be almost the same for the products listed here.

-Place well saturated cotton ball over wart and cover with tape.

-Leave on overnight.

-Repeat daily for up to two weeks.

Supposedly by the end of week two warts will either fall off, get smaller and smaller then disappear or be well on their way of being a vague memory.

(Skeptical are you? Me too.)

Well here is my list that I'm going to try:

1) Apple cider vinegar - cheap enough treatment, less then a penny a day.

2) Fresh garlic thinly sliced - taped onto wart, or fresh garlic juice or fresh or garlic juice mixed into a paste with baking powder.

3) Dandelion "Milk" - pop of the dandelion head and spread the sap (milk) onto the wart, cover with gauze and tape up with duct tape and leave on for a minimum of three days- without letting it get wet. (How can one go without washing their hands for three days?)

4) Camphor oil - a drop of oil on wart morning and night covered with tape.

5) Tea tree oil - same as above (However don't forget both camphor and tea tree oil have a very strong odor)

6) Vitamin E or A oil- covered with duct tape so no air can penetrate to warts .

7) Vitamin C crushed to powder mixed to a paste with olive oil - spread over wart three times per day and covered with a band-aid.

8) Banana peel- cut peel to same size as wart and tape onto wart white side down.

9) Castor oil and baking powder mixed into a paste- paint wart, cover with gauze and band-aid twice daily.

10) Dragon oil- Mix 4 drops of winter green oil, 3 drops of eucalyptus oil, 1 drop of camphor oil, 1 drop of lavender oil

Essential oils are available from health food stores. Keep mixture in small airtight bottle (essential oils are volatile, that means they  evaporate) saturate cotton ball with oil mixture tape onto wart with duct tape morning and night, until all used up about 8 to 9 days. Then cover for 3-4 days with a band-aid.

What I should still mention is that in most cases or maybe all these treatments the warts and surrounding area will peel and could also get slightly painful at times but then it will be worth it right?

I'm going to give these methods a try one or all depending on how many trials it will take to rid myself of these "little monsters".

If I need to try them all it should be within the next 8-9 months when you can expect a follow-up article on my experiences.

If all fails there will still be the witches spells, the gypsy's hexes and the Warts for sale offer......

I'm using tea tree oil and olive oil, combined in equal parts for a tiny wart on my right index finger...it's pleasant and seems to be shrinking it. We'll see, I'll keep you posted on the progress!!! LOL Are we all a bunch of warts or what?

My nephew has warts on his hand. I am wondering if they are contagious? I don't have any warts and really don't want to get any.

Gwendymom! Yes warts can be contagious... It is said that warts if left alone can also disappear from one day to the next especially kids's...

GwendyMom! My Grandma used to make my cousin wash his hands a million times with baking soda. It might work for you too as a preventative.

Dawei888! Just make sure those warts on your toes are not planters warts... Those need to removed profesionally and the soone the better. If you wait too long with those, they can become painful.

good luck regards Zsuzsy

Zsuzsy,

Twice in my life I have had warts like the ones you described on your finger. The first time my Mother bought Compound W to get them off and I remember I spilled a drop of it on my scrapbook and it ate a hole in the cover. Needless to say the warts remained.

One day I showed them to my Aunt Dorothy and I have to say that she "witched" them away. She did a little voodoo with a piece of white thread and they were gone in a couple of days.

Now, about ten years later I found that I was getting more warts and the second time they were not only on my fingers but also on my elbow and my knee. My second eradication of the wart virus was the day I fell on top of a hot wire fence and I had wet clothes on.

The wire was up to keep the cattle in the pasture. I could step over it if I was careful but this one day I guess I was not so careful. The wire touched my leg, knocked me on my ass and I landed backwards across my back on the damn HOT WIRE. The electricity bounced me down a little incline onto the dirt.

When I woke up I was in my bed and my boyfriend said he had found me on the ground and I talked to him but I do not remember any of it. The next day I had tiny little black and blue marks like freckled bruises all over my body. I never felt any pain afterward and no side affects but the warts were gone and I have never had them since. The cure is a good jolt of electricity if you would like to give it a try! LOL

C.S. I'm not sure I need to get rid of the wart on my finger bad enough to want to get electrocuted but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for sharing that story with me I really needed a good laugh. (Remember I was laughing with you not .....) Sorry its been a while since your comment but I've been away.

Hope you're well, kindest regards Zsuzsy

Amy, try some of the remedies tried here in this hub. Some of the remedies work for some people and not for others.

I haven't found any new cures since this hub.
