There are all great places for contractors to start marketing. If you don’t know a lot about marketing or social networking no worries it is not hard and there is a lot of info out there to help you. Say you want to know more about how to market your siding construction business on face book, just go to your search engine (Google) type in “marketing on face book”, looking for help on linked in just type in “Marketing on linked in” Google will list a lot of helpful info for you to go threw. You tube is not just a great place to market you siding business it is also a great place to get free videos just like Google, go to you tube and type in “marketing on face book”. You tube list a lot of videos on this topic you might have to go threw a couple to find good info but the benefit of video and voice is nice. All these social networking sites are great but should not be your main presence on the internet but used as a door way to your construction or contracting businesses main web site. If you don’t have a web site no problem I have found what I think is the best place to build an incredible high end web-site and best of all it’s completely FREE, Weebly.com. This web-site is the easiest thing to use when building a web-site. This is what I used and I am in no way a web-site designer or internet guru. Take a look at what I have done, my site. This site is easy to use but if you need help??? what should you do??? Go to you tube and type in “weebly website” and believe me you will find a lot of great videos that will walk you threw the process step by step.

Now that we got that out of the way I will assume that you have a web-site but if you don’t that ok too. You will still be able to use social networking to build your construction business.

I like MySpace.

MySpace may just be the largest social network out these but things are changing face. MySpace is easy too use and has now become a household name. You may know someone on MySpace you may have a MySpace page yourself. In any case the very nature of the web-site is loved by search engine and ranks high with Google. Done correctly you can get your MySpace page in front of your local market and it is not hard.

1) The first thing you must do is start a MySpace page. It is not hard, go to MySpace and fill out the form you can find video on you tube to help.

2) When you fill out the application they will ask you to fill out a URL. The URL can be whatever you want but if you want Google to find you pick a key work associated with your contraction trade and location. So if you build decks and you live in PA you might want our URL to be myspace.com/decksPA. Keywords are very important in your URL and the content of the page, and should be specific to your trade.

3) Next you want your page to be appealing to customers and people passing by. You can find background and MySpace templates online for free. Go to Google and type in “Free MySpace backgrounds” or “Free MySpace templates” you will be able to find something to match your construction trade if you look.

4) MySpace will allow you to put up pictures, video and more. Use this to display your work.

Content:

5) This is one of the most important things you must do. They will ask you to fill out a spot that says about me. Put your Content there. I am a siding contractor. So, I list all different types of siding like vinyl siding, cement siding, cedar casing, clapboard siding and aluminum siding. Then I give a description of each one. This is one of the ways Google ranks you is by the quality of your content, it should be informative and unique.

6) You now need to decide what you want customers to do when they get there. Do you want them to call you, or fill out something? I try to have people go to my web-site where they can get more info and sign up for a free consultation.

7) You put together your MySpace page you have picked a URL that is Key to your contracting business. You have put up a background for your construction trade. You have added pics, video etc. to display your work. You have high quality content; you have decided what action you want people to take.

Now you must add friends.

Some would say this is most important not just adding friends but having friends add comments to your page. Just adding comments isn’t enough. All comments must be keyword specific. My page talks about siding so I ask all my friends to post comments about siding if you go to my MySpace page you can see what I am talking about.

I would like to build a network of contractors that would like to help each other build high rating in Google by posting comments to each others pages. Comments posted by friends only count once so you can not have the same friend posing comments to your page again and again, it will not help your Google rating. But if you 100 friends (contractors), post key work specific comments to your page you will get picked up by Google fast. Now you might not want to post comments to contractor’s pages in your own town, or even your own state, in some cases. But if I am a siding contractor, and you are a plumbing contractor, we are not in competition. And likewise if I am a siding contractor and I live in New York, and you are a siding contractor and you live in Texas, we may be contractors of the same trade, but we do not live in the same state, so we are not in competition. There are a lot more construction marketing benefits this network can provide, which I will discuss later. Not to mention the practical exchange of ideas, tips, and more from contractor to contractor.

If all of this sounds like a lot to do, it’s not. And you probably know a school aged kid, who is a MySpace pro, because most kids are, if you offer them $8-$10 an hour they will probably have you up and running in a day. And maybe even posting your comments at a small fee. This is a good long term marketing strategy for small and large businesses. From the local handyman to the upscale remodeler.

Request me as a friend and let me be the first to post a key work specific comment to your page.

p.s. when you request me as a friend I will send you more information about getting picked up by Google and yahoo and tell you how to put together key work specific comments quickly.

Remember when someone posts a comment you must post one back or the network will not work. The more you put in the more the more you get back.
