The Panerai Luminor 1950
70Panerai Luminor: The Star among Watches
"I immediately felt when I saw the watch that it had star power...Besides, its perfect for people who are over 45 years old," goes Sylvester Stallone, who was seen sporting the stylish Panerai Luminor in his movie, "Daylight". From Bill Clinton, Pierce Brosnan and Brad Pitt to Arnold Schwarzenegger, the list of Panerai aficionados is quite long.
The Panerai Luminor 1950 comes in four models, Panerai Luminor 8 Days GMT, 8 days GMT Chrono Monopulsate, 10 days GMT, and Tourbillon GMT. The main features of Panerai Luminor 8 Days GMT have 8 days of power reserve, linear indication of the power reserve, second reset, Glucydur balance, 28,800 alternations/hour (4 Hz) and KIF Parechoc anti-shock device. The case of Luminor 1950 style has a polished bezel case band with brushed finish.
The Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT Chrono Monopulsante with the Luminor 1950 case, unusual sapphire crystal with cambered edges and anti-reflective coating, and the historic sandwich dial, has all the characteristic features of the Manifattura collection. The strap is alligator, with Panerai personalized brushed steel large-sized buckle. Fitted with the caliber P.2004, the first chronograph movement created exclusively by Panerai, the wheel chronograph combines the start/stop/reset functions in a single push-piece. This push-piece is specially positioned at 8 o'clock in order to maintain the unusual appearance of Luminor watches. The bridge protecting the winding crown is a unique feature of the design of Luminor cases. This model has 29 jewels, 8-day power reserve, 3 spring barrels, Glucydur balance, 28,800 alternations/hour and KIF Parechoc anti-shock device.
The major feature of Luminor 1950 10 days GMT is the 10 days power reserve enabled watch. The case of polished steel is 44mm in diameter and has a see-through sapphire crystal back. The strap is alligator with personalized, large-sized steel buckle, 25 jewels, 3 spring barrels, Glucydur balance, 28,800 alternations/hour and KIF Parechoc anti-shock device are some of the other features. This model is water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT is set with the Caliber P.2005, a movement with a tourbillon escapement. This special feature of the regulating organ crafted by Panerai lies in the fact that the tourbillon cage rotates on an axis at right angles to the axis of the balance wheel, making two rotations per minute, thereby ensuring greater accuracy and providing the best compensation for the irregular rate caused by the effect of the force of gravity. The intriguing motion of the tourbillon, can be admired from the back of the watch. This model with 31 jewels has a 6 day power reserve and water resistance of up to 100 meters.
