Founded in 1983, the Triplet Connection, a nonprofit organization, is an absolute lifesaver for expectant parents who learn they are expecting triplets. Luckily, I found this online support group during the early stages of my triplet pregnancy, and now, almost three years later I still consult the site everyday. The Triplet Connection offers a wealth of information in the form of information packets, a quarterly newsletter, an annual convention and an online forum for parents to ask questions, share stories and vent frustrations. Additionally, the Triplet Connection offers two books to help parents expecting triplets (Exceptional Pregnancies: A Survival Guide to Parents Expecting Triplets or More) or twins (Exceptional Pregnancies: A Survival Guide to Parents Expecting Twins).

The Triplet Connection has helped over 35,000 parents of triplets and high order multiples. Their tagline notes the Triplet Connection reaches 85% of multiple birth families. Currently, nearly 8,000 people are registered members of the Triplet Connection online forum, which is extremely active and helpful to families entering the unique world of parenting triplets. For example, where else could you see posts titled "Best Minivan for Triplets" or "Shopping with Triplets." While these purchases and activities are fairly routine for parents of singletons, it's a completely different world with three babies or toddlers or preschoolers. Parents of triplets are outnumbered from day one, and we need help and emotional support. Luckily, the Triplet Connection forums provide the helping hand only another parent of triplets can provide.

Another useful aspect of the Triplet Connection website is the online products page. Members post used baby items and gear for other triplet parents to buy. Parents of triplets require a lot of baby gear, some of which is very expensive. For example, a quality triple stroller costs approximately $750 and three cribs would cost several hundred dollars. Most parents have to buy one high chair and can use that high chair again and again for each of their children. With triplets, parents need three high chairs, three car seats, three cribs, three of almost every baby item. The expense is staggering. Having the opportunity to purchase used items from another triplet parent at a discounted price is a great feature of the Triplet Connection website.

Additionally, the Triplet Connection website explains that they have a Scientific Advisory Board comprised of medical professionals across the country. Through the Triplet Connection, the Scientific Advisory Board has the largest database in the world related to triplet and high order multiples births. The database was compiled from over 35,000 questionnaires obtained from members since the time the Triplet Connection was founded in 1983. Those questionnaires came from parents of triplets, quadruplets and more and include information about multiple pregnancies and births providing an important resource of information to both parents and doctors. The Scientific Advisory Board also conducts studies related to triplets and high order multiples, which are often discussed on the Triplet Connection website. For example, one of the advisory board members is currently conducting a study on parenting stress in mothers with singleton, twins, triplets and quadruplets. Members of the Triplet Connection can volunteer to participate in the study by completing a short survey. The results should be very enlightening.

If you or someone you know is expecting triplets (or already has a set of triplets), tell them about the Triplet Connection. If they're not already a member, they'll undoubtedly join right away. There is no better online support group for parents of triplets.

I am the grandmother of triplets. I was the mother of twins.

My daugher and her husband need help. Triplets are way more challenging than twins. Dad was in Iraq. Dad's are more on their schedule than mom's wo are on babies schedule. What does mom do when babies whine at the gate -- they only want mom...How can we change behavior? As the mother of twins, and now the grandmother of triplets, I know that triplets are way more challenging...

I'm not sure of the age of the triplets, but triplets have a way of working together at a very young age to get their way. It's truly amazing to watch. Definitely join the forums on The Triplet Connection website (it's free) and ask your question. Many other mothers in your daughter's current situation will jump in with ideas and tips.

Here's the link: http://tripletconnection.org/triplet_forum/dcboard

There is a "Please Register" link at the top of the page. The first folder on the list, "Triplet Connection Multiple Questions", is the most active folder and the best place to post questions like yours.

Good luck. There is certainly nothing like having triplets!

Hi Susan -

I was reading your article, and I think you should stress the convention more. I am a quadruplet and I have been going to the Triplet Connection National Convention since I was four. I look forward to it every summer, and my family has created amazing friendships that will last forever. Please encourage people to be apart of this amazing weekend.
