The Truth About Wu-Yi Tea
97
Google "diet" and one of the paid advertisements along the side of your screen is almost guaranteed to be for some sort of dieter's tea: the Wu-Yi Source (also at EasyWeightLossTea.com), Wu-Long (at Meltmorefat.com), or one or another of similar versions at websites run by QFL (Quality for Life).
On each of the sites, you find a similar story: this company has access to an exclusive source for special tea that helps you burn fat effortlessly and melts the pounds right off you. Various written testimonials are interspersed with the professed benefits of this particular brand of tea (which is inevitably claimed to be the original and most powerful version), followed by a list of benefits attributed to their brew.

Benefits of Oolong
Green tea and its semi-oxidized counterpart, oolong tea, have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years, and has been shown in scientific studies to play a role in the oxidation of fat. As one would expect, tea generally has no side effects, but neither is it a miracle-worker. TCM takes a holistic approach to the health, so a practitioner would never prescribe oolong alone for the treatment of obesity, or any other problem.
There are many varieties of oolong, one of the most famous of which is harvested in the Wuyi Mountains of the Fujian Province, which, presumably, is where the Wu-Yi Source got its name. However, it is unclear whether or not the Source's tea is indeed from the Wuyi Mountains. Ironically, the Source's "source" is never credited.
The Promotion of Wu-Yi and Wu-Long
On the Wu-Yi Source website, a list of benefits for the product is worded as follows:
1) May brighten skin while improving skin clarity
2) May fortify your immune system
3) May promote stronger, whiter teeth
4) May enhance body-mind wellness
5) It is 100% Natural and Organic
It is interesting to note that each of these claims, except the last, is preceded by the word "may." In addition, though each site has half-a-dozen written testimonials, there are none of the obligatory "before/after" pictures, and the fine print carries the typical disclaimers "Results Not Typical" and "When Used in Conjunction with Diet and Exercise." On the Wu-Yi Source, there are pictures of reputable health magazines strategically placed alongside a few testimonials of particular interest, but nowhere does it explicitly state that these magazines have endorsed Wu-Yi, though that is the implication.
Almost unfailingly, the sites bill their tea "As Seen on Oprah," and sometimes Rachel Ray is implicated as well, but the truth is, neither of these women has endorsed any particular brand, or even flavor, of tea. There is no mention of "wu-yi," "wulong," or even "oolong" on Oprah's site. The extent of the supposed testimonial about tea is found in two slides under Oprah's Snack Secrets, describing that the famous talk-show hostess curbs hunger pangs and cravings with a cup of tea and a light snack. Rachel Ray's site has no mention of tea for weight loss at all.
Several of the sites advertise a money-back guarantee, but this is a common practice among diet supplement dealers, as even unsatisfied consumers rarely go through the effort of sorting through the returns process.
The (Oo)Long and Short of It
Oolong tea, along with its cousins black and green tea, have wonderful mental and physical health benefits, but none of them are "magic brew." Sites like Wu-Yi and Wu-Long prey upon the chronic dieter's desperation to charge an extra buck or two on an already expensive product. The real deal is worth it. The fakes are not.

Excellent article Maddie. Keep up the great work!
Great post, I have bookmarked it for future use, I will try it out. Thanks. :)
Great article, nice review. I especially love how you did the example of what comes up on ebay with your tea search... Funny. But sort of insane too. So many people want a quick fix.
Really nice and informative, thanks.
Fantastic! This really needed to be said. Thanks for saying it.
Awesome review Maddie - I REALLY needed it! I was just about to buy from wu yisource (such convincing marketing!) Thanks for saving me! >^.^<
Nisa, so glad to hear. That's what I write this stuff for!
You can get Foojoy Wuyi Oolong tea at a chinese grocery, the same Oprah tea on e-bay. My local chinese market sells this tea for $1.39, current bids on ebay are $8 a box plus shipping.
THANKYOU! I always check as many web sources as possible before I leap. And I'm glad I did Thanks again Maddie!
Wow! Thanks for just saving me $200 bucks. I had my finger on the order button when I decided to do just a bit more research which has led me to your forum. Not only these people, but others like them prey on the frustrations of dieters to find the magic potion, which they claim to have. Its hard enough for younger folks to wade thru all the hype and I wonder about elderly folks who have been convinced to spend precious funds for astronomically priced products like this. Thanks again for being there.
Just heard about the new "Alli" Diet pill and went to search it out when I came across the Wu Yi Tea. Further research and found you! Thanks for the info. You saved me! You're the GREATEST!
Was doing a bit of research myself on this "miracle tea" when I came across your research Maddie. Thanks for the info. Saved me lots!!
I want to know more about the tea becuas am about to order it so i really dont know if it really works can you right back to me please i might order it so just telling you
I'd be happy to help, if I can. What is it in particular you'd like to know?
Oolong and/or green tea have wonderful health benefits, but what I was trying to illustrate here is that the online sellers like Wu-Yi Source and Wu-Long are scams, charging you more than you need to pay. Try ordering from a verifiable source like Amazon.com, shown above.
So what you are saying is this Wu-Yi tea doesn't really work and is also a scam?
Oolong tea has a number of wonderful health benefits, but there is no magic tea for effortless weight loss. Wu-Yi and Wu-Long are both oolong teas, at an enormous markup, and neither provides any verification of the SOURCE of their supply, so I would go for the genuine product, as available on Amazon or in your local health food store.
Great article Maddie. Too often people go for "quick fixes" (my favorite term), instead of researching the benefits and downsides of certain products. Thanks for doint the work for us!
I have tried this tea, along with diet and excersize. The weight I did loose was not b/c of the tea!!!!!! I'm currently in the process of returning it for a refund... i'll let ya'll know how that goes(fingers crossed)
Hi Maddie Ruud, Have you tried this tea for weight loss??? Are you overweight? And if so, did you have any results? or is this just skepticism for a bit of attention to make yourself a hero??
Stephanie:
I have not, nor will I ever, spend hundreds of dollars on a product that uses deceptive advertising or calls itself a "miracle cure." If there were such a magic bullet for weight loss, you can bet the United States government would be making it readily available.
I do not mean to make myself a "hero." I merely want to put all the information out there for other people to make educated decisions before being ripped off.
As I've said before, oolong tea has wonderful health benefits. But it does not generally cost $200 a pop... and it does not "melt" fat away with zero effort.
I'd recommend reading what other people have said about it, such as Brandi above you, and then make your own decision. Feel free to let us all know how it goes.
Best,
Maddie
Hi Maddie,
This review is AWESOME!!!! Like Stacie said, when people are desperate, they go for "quick fixes" and sometimes to more extreme measures like gastric by-pass surgery!
I saw the advertisement and read the testimonials and was at first curious. However, when I read the one testimony that said, "It was just astonishing! I dropped 6 jean sizes in just 6 weeks!" this is not humanely possible unless you are SERIOUSLY sick! That prompted me to do a little more research on reviews for this product and I came across your website.
I think it's great you took the time to do some research to help desperate folks out there make a better informed decision! The weight loss industry is a HUGE money making machine designed to tapped into people's psyche and pocket books!!!!!
THANK GOODNESS there are "Heros" such as yourself who do what you do not for money but for countless of hopeless dieters out there looking for a "quick fix!"
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS TRIED THIS PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY AND IT WORKED? MEANING IN A WEIGHT LOSS FASHION?
Hey Tracey... If you see above, Brandi tried the tea and found that it was her diet and exercise that made the difference, NOT the tea. Oolong, along with other things like green tea, acetyl l-carnitine, and b vitamins can AID in weight loss, but no matter what, you're going to have to make some changes.
I ordered and have tried the tea for two weeks now. I have seen no results at all, at least none like they claim. I have lost a little weight, but believe it is becasue of my diet and exercise. I was looking for a "quick fix" and they sure had me fooled! They offer to refund my money if I want to return the product. I definitely want to return it and get my $198.00 back! Unfortunately there were no directions on how to return the tea. I have emailed them twice and although the guarantee a response within 24 hours, I have not heard back from them. HELP! I would not buy from this company!
All I can say is Thank You. This review was exactly what I was looking for. I hope you never stop researching.
I tried the tea that I purchased inexpensively on amazon. I like the taste and how it relaxes me at night. But I am a big tea fan and I gave up soft drinks May 1st so was looking for something else to fill in on top of the water I'm drinking.
I changed my eating habits, exercise etc. on May 1st and have lost 26 pounds. It has NOTHING to do with the tea, although I like the taste and have made it part of my relaxing routine at night.
I only started using the tea this week and am already on a new eating plan, cardio, etc... along with no sugar and no salt eating plan so I've been losing weight and am a few pounds away from my ideal weight.
The advertising is always appealing to people's emotions but use your thoughts and strength to redesign your eating and exercise plan and you can lose the weight with or WITHOUT the tea and certainly without paying high prices for it.
I am always looking for holistic approaches to losing weight and so I decided to do a little research on this Wu-Yi tea which appeared upon my monitor in a pop-up ad. I already drink oolong and plan to continue drinking my current brand. Thanks again for the research!
I got a pop up ad too. I found that you can get it for under 10 dollars on ebay. I WANT to start drinking tea. Could this one perhaps be good enough? Not necessarily for losing weight, but for being organic.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!! I too tried this, with no luck, and am in the process of finding out how to return.
I sent an email to service@wuyisource.com as stated on the website, and they deleted my email without reading. Have sent another asking why they delete without reading, but nothing yet.
Brandi, How are you going about returning yours? You can email me at my email address paminpa21@yahoo.com and maybe we can exchange strategies. Thanks.
Is it true that this product won the 2007 Diet Awards? If so, how come there are some customers that aren't satisfied?
Cher, if you scroll up you'll see the investigation I did of the so-called Diet Awards, which ended up really being a site cooked up by the company itself, awarding a single award to, guess who, themselves.
Oh darn! All this time, I've been telling my bf that wu-yi won the 2007 diet awards
HEY Maddie,
That was awesome. I saw the advertisement yesterday and thought of ordering one for myself and my aunt. Then I did some more research today and found your review, It is helpful. I won't wanna spend hundreds of dollars on something which is available for less than $ 10. Maddie, how is oolong is different from green or any other tea? How can it help in weight loss?
I ordered this tea 2 days ago. Normally I do research before I order things, but stupid me got lazy and decided not to look it up. I haven't received a conformation email. I was gonna try to cancel my order, but on their website it says you can't. So now I'm gonna have to wait for the tea to get here and send it back. Hopefully they'll give me a refund.
WOW, great research. I was also going to click the order button but, I decided to read up on the tea a bit more and I'm glad I stumbled on to your site. Thank you, you saved my ass and my check book. :)
Does anyone know how this tea tastes mixed with Crown Royal or Jack Daniels?
Thank you, Maddie, this article sums up all my thoughts about these magic potion sites.
We are running a small teahouse in New Zealand (Ya-Ya House Of Excellent Teas) and are now getting a lot of requests for oolong tea. Initially, we were thrilled since few people in New Zealand have ever heard of oolong tea, but it became clear very quickly that these requests were purely based on finding this "slimming agent with magical properties". I have checked quite a few of the sites you mention in your great article and the prices are outrageous. For example, meltmorefat.com offers 60 servings (I'd say that would be around 100g if you only count first infusions, which I'm not sure they are doing!) for $37. We're offering 100g of an absolute top quality organic WuYi oolong for the US$ equivalent of about $7.
I personally find it rather sad that people are turning to tea solely for health reasons since this ancient beverage offers incredibly varied sensory experiences and should be consumed for pleasure rather than function.
I did fall for the advertising. I also tried to cancel right after ordering and they said I couldn't as it is being processed. I have had the tea for about a week and I have called the number on the shipping box and they say I need a return number. Well I have sent e-mails to wuyisource@gmail.com which I got from chating with their live agents and It took three days to reply and they still have not given me a return number, they want to know what my concerns are with the tea. I am thinking of sending it back with a tracer so I know they recieved it back and dispute this charge on my credit card.
Thank You Maddie for the review, I wish I would have researched before ordering. I have finally gotten a respond from wuyisource and they gave me a RMA # and address to return and they process refunds every two weeks for anyone like myself that fell for the web site and ordered and was gonna pay way too much.
As I mentioned earlier, I appreciate your article very much. Reading through the comments it attracted, it seems that there is a definite market for oolong (or wulong) tea and charlatans are exploiting it. In the name of everyone here: thanks for the education.
One statement in your article is not true, though. " Wu-Yi and Wu-Long are brand names for what is generally known as oolong tea." Wu-Yi is in fact (as you stated later in your article) a very famous tea-growing region in Fujian Province, China and considered to be the origin of oolong tea. Some of the tea trees are more than 500 years old, although you won't be able to pay for the tea from these original trees. Wu-long is the equivalent of oolong, the name meaning "Black Dragon", and refers to a semi-oxidized tea, rather than being a brand name. One last thing (sorry for being pedantic here but I think that little details are important): although the tea in the image is oolong tea, it is not a style that is produced in WuYi. WuYi produces stripe-shaped oolongs rather than the ball/fist-shaped oolong pictured in your article (this style is produced in Southern Fujian and many places in Taiwan).
Thanks for the comments, Sue. I meant to point out that what "Wu-Yi Source" and "Wu-Long" at Meltmorefat.com were selling was really just oolong, not actually any more special than that oolong you buy at your local health food store, except for the price. I stated explicitly that though the "Wu-Yi Source" calls itself such, it offers no proof that its source really is indeed Wu-Yi Mountain, as I, too, found that highly unlikely. Though Wu-Yi is a mountain and wu-long is a tea name, they have both been commandeered as brand names, hence the sentence you refer to.
I do not find the picture to be inappropriate, since I do address oolong tea, and not TRUE WuYi tea. I hope this has clarified things for you.
I agree, details are important. Thank you for your concern for the truth.
Hi Maddie, I bought 2 boxes on Sunday and of course got one for free. $74 plus shipping plus insurance = $91.xx. On Monday, I was snooping around and saw some articles saying that I just got ripped. Ooops. Tues I sent a messaging why I didn't get an email confirm or tracking number and got no reply. Wednesday I call my VISA account and found that the money had been paid out. I canceled that card and will get another in 7 days. They are going to send me papers to dispute the charge.
Today (Thur) I get home from work and see a box on the doorstep. Yup, it's the Tea. They had some papers inside saying that they are re designing the look of the box. It says WU-YI TEA and mentions WU-YI Source. It has a manufacturer on the box so I wonder if that could be a clue on finding out the quality and soource of the tea.
Zhejiang Camel Transworld Co., Ltd.
218 Ti Yu Chang Road, Hangzhou
Zhejiang, China 310041.
In the meantime, I have a 180 day supply of tea for only $.50 a cup. I'm not even going to try to get anything back as it won't be worth the effort. I hope I at least get some good out of the tea. I will hopefully be more carefull in the future. Thanks for your efforts.
Maddie, I heard you say " it does not "melt" fat away with zero effort." Every one of the companies I've seen states something like "along with diet and excercise" so I don't see how anyone could be mislead unless they don't read carefully or are really that desperate that they ignor the wording. I think anyone should be able to see that this is not a 100% solution. What I can see is that if you drank the tea, or really any other good tea, instead of eating one snack each day, you'd have to lose a little weight because of the difference in calories. I'm not sure it would leave you as satisfied.
Let's not forget that the tea does have benefits although maybe not the diet benefits they focus on.
I'd like to see why someone like Oprah doesn't sue these companies for using her name or likeness to sell a product!
I think it's worth a try just for it's other potential benefits. I'm going to look for it in my local health food coop. :)
Kudos to John C's post about mixing it with booze! I needed a laugh! Maybe worth a try? hehe!
Wendy:
Absolutely! I even included a section about the benefits of tea-drinking. I merely point out that these companies are charging an arm and a leg for their product, which can be obtained at a much lower cost at your local health food store, or in bulk on Amazon, as shown.
I refer you back to the last section of my article, "The Oolong and Short of It."
Thanks for reading!
i currently placed an order of the wi-yi tea. i have only used it for 3 days. it greatly reduced my appetite and i am looking forward to a significant weight loss in 2 weeks but the only thing i find really shady is the fact that on their website they promised $10,000 for the before and after picture but when the order came it became $1,000. i still don't understand what they are trying to do
thanks so much for this article. i had just typed in my credit card number on the wu-yi site and was about to order when i figured i had better research it a little bit. thanks for saving me $37
I had been suckered in with the wu-yi tea. Not only is it a scam by what it claims, but I like all the others cannot reach any e-mail messages. They also charged an additional8.90 for shipping. Good lesson for me. Oprah should know about this abuse. Either they have put her name on supporting this product or she has supported it. I am going to e-mail their producer and tell them about this web page. I am sure they will be very interested, since most viewers go with that shows approval.
I knew when I requested an 800 number to order the product and was told it could only be ordered on line that it was a scam - I never give personal / credit card information on line.
Thanks Mddie, unfortunately, i found your site trying to find out how to get my money back, and found your site listed under the google. Wish i had been as savey as some of the other postees, and did some research first. will try and contract my credit card company and see what they have to say. thanks to all for your posts. lakelady
Another really shady thing that Wu-Yi Source pulls -- they try to claim that they are almost out of their product for the year, so you'd better act fast to make sure you get yours! You have to "click here to check for available stock," and when you do you get a nice little message -- dated with today's date, of course -- informing you that they are "officially down to our last crate" and that they have sold out of their supply five weeks earlier than last year (though if they have a crate left, they haven't sold out, now have they?). The note also informs you that they expect to sell out completely by tomorrow, so "if you’d like to get your hands on the last available Wu-Yi, we strongly advise that you do not put this off any longer." I've been keeping an eye on the site for 8 days now, out of curiosity (that message set off HUGE warning bells in my head, thank goodness), and it's been exactly the same every day -- except for the date, of course. What a scam.
Thank you, Maddie, for your well put-together article detailing -- fairly -- the real benefits and drawbacks of buying products from a company like this one. Too bad more people don't do more research before being lured in by professional-looking webpages and "act now!" pressures.
How many milligrams/grams of caffeine does Oolong Tea have? And your diet tea that you sell?
I will buy oolong tea, but at a Chinese grocery store near my home for about $5 a box. It will probably last a month, so we'll see if I have any significant weight loss during that month. The only weight-loss benefit that I can foresee is that the caffeine in the tea might give a person enough added energy to successfully complete an exercise regime. Or perhaps the calming qualities of the tea might help prevent a person from eating out of anger or depression.
I'm a natural skeptic, so we'll see if the oolong tea does any good. I'll keep you informed. Any way, thanks for the tip, and it helped keep me from getting ripped off by the high price of online tea. It's a lot cheaper at a Chinese grocery store.
Christina:
I do not sell any sort of tea. I am a holistic health practitioner and freelance writer. The amount of caffeine varies by source and brand, check the back of the box.
I ordered the wu-ty tea the middle of june and have not heard anything from them except that they did receive the money from my card. Have e-mailed a half dozen time with no response-what an expensive lesson learned! Cost me $94. Will be a lot more wiser next time!
Oolng and wu-yi tea are very good for the body as well as any tea will be, the difference between say the boxed and bagged "oprah" tea and say tea from a real life tea shop like the one i workat is that tea bags are dust and with a loose leaf tea you do get all the benefits BUT you have to drink it 3-4 times a day.
I would like to know how Lois was able to obtain the RMA # and address in order to return the tea. Several people (including myself) are unable to receive any type of response to send the tea back.
Thank you Maddie for the research and information. I just wish I found your site before I paid $200 for tea that I could get at the store. You live & learn.
I read a recipe for a tea in a book detailing the benefits of apple cider vinegar, garlic and honey. A doctor by the name of Dr. Javis gave the recipe for a tea that helps with a lot of ailments. He also stated it helps one loose weight. To make the tea use: any tea bag you like, 2 Tbls of apple cider vinegar (preferrably organic Braggs brand is my favorite) 2 Tbls of raw honey. The tea is great and when I started drinking it about seven years ago, I noticed my allergies went away! I didn't get colds and flus either! I love this tea and also noticed I managed my weight a little better when I started drinking the tea. There is nothing like exercise and proper diet to shed the pounds but I do think the apple cider vinegar aided in burning a little fat. If you want to use the tea to eliminate allergies make sure you purchase honey that is made from your local area because it is made using pollen in you area which helps you build immunity.
Whoops! I made a mistake in the measurments of the tea. It shoudld be 2 teaspoons of the honey and apple cider vinegar. Also I misspelled the Dr.'s name. It is Jarvis. Sorry! you can click on this link to read a little about him and some of the ailments he claims the "Miracle Tea" can heal. You might also want to google apple cider vinegar benefits too. I would caution against ordering anything online because you can get reasonably priced products at your local health food store!
Wow, after reading this blog I really feel like a loser. I fell hook, line, and sinker into their scam, though it's not entirely my fault (I have bipolar disorder). Nevertheless, now that I've heard all your information, I feel like a real idiot.
Worst of all, I paid for the largest quantity they said they had available...ugh.
$300 and some odd cents later, I am simply amazed at all the deception by this company; completely appalled.
I feel like the return will be very difficult, so why bother. Maybe we should start some sort of petition against this company for fraudulent advertising.
Hmmm...
Maddie
I was just wondering if anyone knows how to send the tea back. It stated 60 day money back but nowhere does it give an address to send it. The address on the box I recieved and the address on their site are totally different. I also can not get in touch with anyone through their email service. Any info would be great
Thank you Joanne
Did anyone try the tea and it actually worked?I wanted to try it because oprah said it worked.
Companies like these prey on people who will NOT research before putting their credit card on the line. They make it hard to get a return and they make millions doing it!! THANK YOU MADDIE, something did not sit well in my stomach and I found your reseach. I saved my $$$ and diginity. Most of all I say to people: DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE PURCHASING ANYTHING ESPECIALLY ON-LINE!
Thanks Again!
Well after reading the other messages people have sent I feel like an idoit. I just bought the tea and received it today. I thought that it was a good deal at the time until I read lessa's message, that was the same thing that I read when I bought the tea. Now i'm wondering if I should even bother with trying it...
i ordered the tea last thursday the 12th of july, before reading this! OMG i immeditaly contacted them to get y refund....i paid $80.95 for three cartons...while talking to a chat person he asked me why i wanted to cancel i told him because i was pregnant, and my doctor said it was unsafe to drink a weight loss tea...hethen directed me to an e-mail address...i swear if i don't get my money back i will sue,not only for my money but for the scam and false information that is posted on their website.
UPDATE!!! Well i have called my bank luckly nothing has come out....and my order was already shipped...looks like ill have 3 cartons of tea...anyone wanna share?
Well said! I stumbled onto oolong tea years ago while traveling in Asia and drink it chilled like many locals due to its outstanding ability to quench one's thirst during hot summer months. It is, today, ubiquitous, so seeing these unscrupulous hucksters filch folks out of their hard earned cash by portraying it as "rare" or an "ancient Chinese secret", is truly disheartening. Thank you for exposing them for the lying larcenists they are.
I never get suckered, but never say never. I bought the stupid Tea. I wish I had seen your article before, oh well live and learn. Thanks for all your research.
Wu-Yi is so good at sounding concerned about people getting screwed by the diet industry when they are doing the same. You can get an asian "diet" tea at any supermarket for a few bucks a box. All it does is give you diarrhea so of course you lose a little weight! They had me wanting to order their tea until I saw the prices. I'm glad I saw this site because I probably would have been convinced this tea is different from the other asian diet teas and I probably would have bought the $50 bottle to try it. But no thanks- $50 is better spent elsewhere!
AFTER TAKING TO THEIR "SUPERVISOR" I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET A PHONE NUMBER FOR WU-YI SOURCE...ITS 1-877-417-4141...THEY CALIM THAT THEY ADVERTISE IT ON THEIR WEBSITE....BUT NEVER USE IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A SUPPORT SYSTEM....OK WHATEVER....WHEN YOU CALL IT THOUGH YOU CAN BERLY HEAR THE GIRL SPEAKING...THEN AFTER THE MESAGE SHE HANGS UP.....THE SUPERVISOR ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT SCAMERS, BUTNEVER COULD TELL ME ABOUT THEIR SO CALLED AWARD OR THEIR EXPENSIVE PRICES!...UHMMM WHAT SCAMERS....
WHEW...in a weak moment I almost fell for it too. Then I saw the outragous prices and I knew it was a scam. Now after reading all these comments I feel sorry for the people who got scammed. What a shame...these people are just common criminals with no integrity and no consciences.
After REPEATED emails to this company to obtain return instructions for 3 unopened boxes I received last week (all of which were returned "undeliverable") I contacted my credit card company to lodge a fraud notice. Before I did that I found on another site (which I can't find again unfortunately) a return address someone else with the same experience I have had noted after finally hearing back from the company. I packed up the product along with my invoice printed from my order confirmation and sent it back. THEN I emailed them again to let them know the course I had taken (i.e., that I had contacted my credit card company and was prepared to file a formal complaint against them for fradulent sales practices) and that the product was on the way back to them...had an almost immediate email reply with the return address and assurance that the credit would be posted within 2 weeks of the receipt of the product. I will not be paying for this on my credit card and will submit a dispute claim if the credit is not on the next statement! Good luck...keep emailing them and here is the address for returning the product...WuYi Source-USA Branch 1302-24 Street W #302 Billings, MT 59102 Enclose a copy of your order number (a copy of the order receipt would be even better if you have it) Good luck! Will post when I receive the credit and let you know how it turns out...and NEVER again will I be so gullible!
AS SOON AS i SAW THE PICTURE OF OPRAH I NEW IT WAS A SCAM. THEY OVER-ADVERTISED THE PRODUCT. WHEN OPRAH ENDORSES A PRODUCT IT NEVER HAS THE HYPE THAT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE POP UP THAT FLOATED ACROSS MY SCREEN. I IMMEDIATELY GOOGLED THE NAME OF THE TEA AND YOUR WEBSITE CAME UP FIRST. WE NEED TO REALIZE THAT THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES TO WEIGHT LOSS. PRAYER, FAITH, HARD WORK, CHANGE AND PERSEVERENCE ARE THE KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL AND ABSOLUTE WEIGHT LOSS.
GOD BLESS!
CHRISTIAN
I am so glad I read this - I too had my finger on the order button and credit card in hand. I started doing research though and saw it on Amazon for $7.99 a box, then saw another site that was way more expensive than WuYi source but also claimed theirs was the one Oprah and Rachel Ray used. Finally I saw your site - this made up my mind, thank you so much.
Thank you so much, I don't deal with credit cards I only deal with cash so I was searching for a store to buy this tea in. I came across this site and I can't thank you enough. I was actually going to borrow a credit card from my friend I was so convinced that this might help. I've been at a plateau for months and I'm getting desperate so I fall for everything except this, thanks to you.
well, i just fell for it without doing my homework...shame on me...but i will let you know if i lost ANY weight...
Here is the latest on the Wu Yi site. When I attempt to leave the site they send out a pop-up saying that "a live representative wants to talk with you". When I canceled the pop-up, I was locked into the site. I could not change addresses or use my back button. I had to shut down internet explorer and restart it in order to get out. I don't know if the pop-up is selective, but I have no interest in going back to the site to find out if it happens all the time or if I am one out of every x number of people who get locked in.
cheryl...same thing happened to me...that should have been the tip-off, but no, i kept rigt on going in my frantic search for another weight le=oss quick fix solution...maybe i should simply concentrate on eating healthy and getting more exercise than just my fingers on a keyboard!...
The Wuyi really does work better than regular Oolong or just Wulong tea. You can usually get a really great deal on E-bay. Bags are more convenient. I have lost 60 pounds since using the Flower Brand off E-bay. Wuyi is spelled in the Chinese characters instead of English, but its the real thing. Works great. I am still losing.

Maddy,
Thanks for the research and effort you put into this. Unfortunately, didn't find this site until after I had placed my order today. I had an inkling that this was "too good to be true" even with diet and exercies but placed the order anyway and then followed my inclination to see what information was on the web. If any has any luck with returning the tea or getting a valid phone number, please share on this site.
was about to hit submit when my logic took over and found this. I clicked the 'edit shipping address' and got back to my order page. erased all information (says you'd have to reenter your cc number which indeed was blank). Thanks for saving me $40. I'll go with my Chinese friend to his tea shop instead.
It was nothing but God that lead me to this site. I ordered the Wu-Yisource tea and in a matter of 2 mins. I decided to learn more about the tea and read all the reviews. I called my credit card co. and it had already posted, they advised me to call back within 2 days to dispute the claims, and they will not take the money out. When the shipment comes I will refuse the order and have it returned. Thanks for helping people out like me that has been fooled for a miracle in weight loss.
I would like to know does the top four tea's you suggested, will it cause some kind of cramping and diarrhea?
I gotta say Maddie, you write really well. I especially liked the way you answered Stephanie Duff (from 5 weeks ago), showing her with complete maturity the truth and ignoring her pointless shots of jealous remarks.
About the tea, I guess I'm just like everyone here, just saying thanks for the great article :) I too have just seen the advertisement and the so-called "Diploma" and "Oprah" testament, and thought (shamelessly) that if it's asian, it must cure. You see, I live in Hong Kong, and 90% of the population here really are skinny Chinese people.
When I told my friend about the tea, he said- "PLEASE do some more research before you buy the product." And I did, which led me on to you!
So once again, thank you, and I will be looking at your related articles for a good, healthy way to lose weight :)
Like many others I was a sucker and bought the tea the second I found the website. The only regret I have is that I paid too much for it. I have been using the tea for about three weeks now before I found this website, and although the tea may have helped or not, I look and feel better than before. Because I thought it actually worked "miracles," I worked out harder and ate better because I thought I would see results quicker. So, after reading all of these opinions, it probably was just my mindset to train harder, but at least it helped me see results beacause I thought the tea would work.
So, my advice is that if you got suckered into this deal, you can still get something out it if returning it is really as bad as it sounds. The tea actually does make me feel healthier and I drink it instead of coffee to survive work. Thus I am confident in saying my purchase did not go to waste, next time I will just find cheaper ways to buy it.
Thanks to Rebecca for the contact information. I, too, have been trying for 3 days to get a response from Wu-Yi Source regarding a return. I finally received a response wanting a reason for the return. I replied quoting their so-called 60 day iron-clad guarantee stating I could return the tea for "any reason". I still haven't had a response. I'm concerned about receiving an actual refund if I return the tea. I'd love to know if anyone has received a full refund after sending a return to Wu-Yi Source.
i m hk based, and i have seen tht wu long slimming tea in hk with many different packings...so dont know which one is real or which one is fake.... as on the wu long website they hv shown black color box, but here in hk i could not find black color box on any shop...i have seen many different kinds of boxes... so pls. let me know if anyone can help to me... thanks.
Good news! After 5 days, 6 emails and many questions regarding the reason(s) I want to make the return, I have an address to send it to. If anyone else is having trouble, all they've asked me for is my order number, name and address to be sent with all the remaining tea - open and unopen boxes. The return address is:
WuYiSource
2711 East Craig Rd.Suite K
North Las Vegas, NV
89030
Also, the email address I finally got this response from is service@edirectsoftware.com.
Good luck!
Correction! The email I received was from sales@edirectsoftware.com not service! Sorry!
Thanks Maddies...I'm another one who was just about to order, had the form filled in, then decided to check around first. You are doing good work. I'll find my oolong at the Chinese grocers
Like a lot of others, I was about to order, but was suspicious of the "better hurry before we run out" thing. Boy, do they have a terrific come-on! Decided to google WuYi tea reviews and found this sight. Another thank you, Maddie.
For those of you that are having a problem getting a Return Authorization Number, you can file a dispute with your credit card.
Wow, that comment list doesn't seem to stop, ever.
Judging by the interest your article generated, it looks like this subject is huge over in the U.S. As I have mentioned in an earlier comment here, we have a little of this effect here in New Zealand, but I believe the number of people exposed to the aggressive advertisement is much smaller.
We DO get requests, asking about this diet tea, so I did some research into the subject myself. If any of the readers here is interested in reading the scientific publications that form the basis of the slimming claims, they can be found on my blog entry on <a href="http://blog.yayateahouse.co.nz/2007/08/09/weight-l title="slimming with oolong tea">losing weigth with oolong tea</a>.
Ya i just bought it before i found this website.:( Well im glad that i have some info on returning it! I really do want some of this tea, just not at the price i paid. Does anyone know of a legitimate brand of oolong tea to buy?
Hey Maddie!
Thanks for weeding through all the crap about just another bogus "diet aide" that preys on the sensibilities and self esteem of unsuspecting people.
I saw the ad for the tea you mention and believe me it was very appealing, the mountians, the stories about the weight loss, and the pictures of individual weight loss that I was tempted to order. But I decided to do a little reaserch on the tea before I spend the amount they where asking the power of the internet is awrsome...for I found your comments on the tea. I will keep my loot and if decide I want to try it I will visit my health food store or china town and obtain some to try. Thanks for doing the reaserch and taking the time to post your findings.
Try the Tea. I have experienced companies competeing and therfore putting good products down. I found many of the testimonies to be fabricated. You can contact the company and this tea is not sold a sold in stores yet. I ordered, then made contact with the company who also immediately agreed to cancel my order.
Thank you so much for this review. I too was really taken in by some of the advertising, and while I am still considering getting some oolong tea and drinking it regularly, I no longer feel tempted to buy a month's supply for $50. Thank you very much!
i need to return this tea and have no way of contacting anyone from this company? what do i do just send it back to the same address that sent it to me or what please respond today monday 8-20-07 thanks Sonia
I ordered this tea a few weeks ago and have been drinking it twice a day along w/ changes in diet and exercise. I have noticed some weight loss but it's hard to tell if the tea is doing anything to help. As I've read, it c/b all psychological! Tastes good, but not for the price I paid!
I bought this about 6 weeks ago, and felt real darn silly when I received it and realized I'd spen $42 for tea I could buy at my whole foods store! But, I started drinking it twice a day with raw honey, and I can say one good thing has come of this...I now have a nice twice-a-day tea habit! It is tasty with the honey, and I'll continue drinking it, but for the taste, not for the weight loss. I lost a few pounds, but I've also changed my diet so that's probably the reason for the weight loss. Oh well, live and learn.
Thanks for your posting!!
I've seen their ads on my blogger but never clicked on it. I'm a tea importer in Vancouver (I have a online shop just open), and I know what "tea" can do for you. Tea is good, but not magic. Well, Oolong & Wulong are actully same thing, just the different spelling. It is a style of tea, between green tea and black tea. No matter it is Wuyi or Dongding or Oriental Beauty, they are all Oolong... Oolong tea may help dieting because it may make your body absorb less fat. Tea speaks for itself, I really don't like those cheating ads... they just ruin the market and tea spirit..
hey guys , i got the oolong tea from a chinese grocery store, but if it doest wrk ..what does??
and i have no time to exercise or go to gym.. i want something that helps u lose weight ..
Thank you very much for the article. I am almost to order, but i have luck not to lose my money. I checked the review, and i found this article. It is very helpful. Thank again.
chelsea, oolong tea is parcial oxidized, any kind of oolong tea helps diet and detox. Just make sure that you're buying from good suppliers. You may want to warm it with first infusion (just pour hot water in and discard the first infusion after seconds), this helps unroll and wash the tea leaf.
I don't really care about loosing weight. But is it a tasty cuppa to drink? Thanks for the well written article
just thought I would google "diet" like you said, and actually no paid advertisement came up for any kind of "dieter's tea: the Wu-Yi Source (also at EasyWeightLossTea.com), Wu-Long (at Meltmorefat.com), or one or another of similar versions at websites run by QFL (Quality for Life)." But that I just had to do for fun. Great research. Very helpful. Saved me money. Thank you!
I did the samething, when I saw the prices I knew it had to be a SCAM when I google it and ended up on your forum. Good info I was thinking to share it with my friend and loose weight together. Thank you for your work.
Thanks for doing this reseasrch. I have only heard of this tea today and the site sounded interesting. Being the usual sceptic I decided to google the tea to see what people had said. I found your comments very interesting and I agree it certainly is a scam that preys on the vunerable people.
I actually lived in Vietnam for a year and still have some tea in the back of the cupboard. Don't think it is oolong but it could be beneficial. I did not drink green tea very much except at social occasions because it is very bitter. However, I now need to look at what I am eating and drinking as I am very sluggish and tired a lot of the time. I will now search the cupboards and try it. I will let you know how I get on.

This company is a fraud! I returned the product within ten days and have been promised a refund as of July of 2007 and have not yet received a credit to my credit card company! I have had numerous chats with on-line live chat and just have gotten the run a round. Do yourself a favor do not send this company and money, trust me they are a fraud!!!
I won a bid from ebay for $4.05 plus $7.00 shipping. I did see the websites for $37.00 a box but thought logical that this is still just TEA!!! I would never pay that kind of money for TEA. I paid $11.05 for 50 tea bags. I really like the way it tastes and it also has an appetite suppressant. I drink 1 cup in the morning and since I have a late lunch about 3pm I don't usually get that second cup until 10pm as a snack. I am not hungry between the hours of 10am and 3pm and all i'm going on is 1 cup of tea. So as long as this tea continues to keep me feeling satisfied for those 5 hours that i'm usually snacking on chips and something New Orleanians call praline candy (100% sugar, cream and pecans) I will continue to purchase this tea from e-bay at cheap low prices.
I'm not drinking this tea for complete weight loss, I'm drinking it as an aid(appetite suppressant) to my weight loss. Also I'm done with carbs!! Whoo-Hoo feel a lot more energized.
Same story was just about to order but the whole end of our shipping season and the "limited time" 25% discount didnt sit right. i searched wu yi tea and your site came right up. Thank you so much for the research thats one company that wont be getting my money!!
Well I admit i was really desparate when i order this product. I actually tried to log under the tyra banks web page and mispelled it trya banks instead. I didn't realize it until i wanted to view my order and when i type her name again nothing appeared as what it was when i first log in. So i scrolled under my pervious viewed sites and noticed my error. I am disappointed i spent money on the product but not so much so since i spent the cheapest of the options only until i knew if it would work. So it is definitely a gimmick because they are so intuned on praying on peoples weaknesses. A mispelled word lead me to a purchase only because knowing tyra banks gained and lose weight thought it was sufficient. They too knew people would think that. You can still log in and view the corrupt site. like mentioned before www.tryabanks.com be sure to mispell the word !
During a brief (almost) Senior Moment, I was actually considering purchasing this 'wonder' tea - but my husband and I have this unbreakable rule about buying ANYTHING : we must wait 3 days before we order/sign/purchase an item after we THINK we want to buy it. Needless to say, our policy saves us a bundle because it 1) gives the sales pitch time to wear off, and 2) give us time to do more research. Both of these factors helped me decide NOT to order the 'magic' tea. (Does it have any relationship to Jack's magic beans????)
We drink tea by the gallon every single day. We have over 30 varieties- including a smoked oolong called Lapsang Souchong...and here I was ready to buy a 'wonder tea' all because of where it was grown! Pardon me while I hit myself upside the head for even considering buying this stuff.
The final piece was this website exposing the fact this 'wonder tea' [supposedly in short supply so order NOW] is miraculously available on no less than 5 separate websites.
I'd like to add one piece to your expose. While reading thru the 'guarantee' I noticed some fine print that says the purchaser must return the USED & UNUSED portions of the product. WHOA! First off: How many catch that little caveat? Second, What are the odds dieters (oh, that's right this isn't a diet...it's an ancient Chinese Secret which, when combined with a sensible diet and exercise will result in weight loss) will save every one of their teabags/loose tea in a jug/jar/bin until it's time to ship the whole soggy mess back to the company?
And that, America, is how one creates the Ultimate Scam.
Here's a jus'fer fun thought: Imagine 20,000 people ordering their 'magic' tea on the same day...then, for the next 30 days they faithfully save their soggy teabags, storing them in a covered container kept at room temp. On day 30 they all send them back.
Yeah. Works for me.
It is funny that I love the search engines. I got to the credit card info page before I thought to search. This page showed the $37 price and I was like oh please.
The first lisiting I got was from Amazon for about $8. Then I saw this article. Saved me money. I wasn't going to buy it because I saw the price and knew it was ridiculous and I feel better now that I read the article.
If not this what do you recommend for losing around 25 lbs. in few weeks?
I, too, like most of the comments above, was looking for an "easy way out" to lose weight and this sounded too good to be true, so as the saying goes, "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". Thank you Maddie for your research. You answered all of my questions and prevented me from wasting money that I don't have to waste in the first place. I will continue to do my best to eat my six small meals, drink my 8 glasses of water and exercise, which is the main reason that my weight isn't going anywhere...lack of exercise... I just have to make the time and forget about the "quick fix tea". Keep up the good work Maddie.
Sonali,
First you have to be sure that it would be healthy for you to lose that kind of weight. Typically you can healthily lose 1-2 pounds a week.
I know you have seen shows like biggest loser where they are losing 5-10 sometimes 15-20 pounds a week. What you have to realize is that these people are in a strict environment with a trainer and on a very strict diet.
If you want to lose a significant amount of weight (fat that is) then you just have to burn more calories than you are taking in and with 25 pounds that would be a lot of burning.
Maddie Ruud, Very good Review. Thanks.
I've been taking the Wu-Yi Tea for the past 8 days and it is working for me...I've lost 3 lbs.
Oh, my goodness...YOU are good at what you do...I, too, did my research (as I always do) and want to thank you for your website.
I was not ordering as I suspected it was a scam, but I have read about oolong tea. Any tea is good for me, and that's why I drink it....all kinds! WEight loss? Nothing will do that except portion control and riding my recumbent bike!! I'm living the dash...and trying harder!
Ahh..life is good!
Thanks Maddie! I almost place an order but decide to research due to its high cost. Thanks again for your review :)
I just ordered the tea and the website said you get a month for free and then you have 14 days to cancel by calling the 866 number. I supposedly only have to pay for shipping which is like 2 bucks. What's the scam? Is it that when you call to cancel they don't answer? What should I do?
Thanks for the awesome research and insight. We need more people like you.
Thanks,
Raymond
WOW!!!.... I ordered this like a week ago for about $40....i can't believe ppl paid $100, $300. Well it's too late for me. I did change my eating habits b/c the tea had special eating instructions, but if it doesn't work like Maddie says then i want to return it. I guess i wanted a quick fix and lose 15lbs, but i guess i gotta do it on my own. Who can give me the return address for the Wu-Yi tea. I would like to return this ASAP. I wish i did some futhur research. Thanks Maddie.. but it's too late i already bought it.
Maddie,
I too am almost desperate to get my weight loss jump started and almost got snared in the Wu-Yi Source promise.
The only thing I can say is Thank you multiplied by a million times for your research.
I did not benefit from the Wu-long tea. In fact, I did not loose any weight at all. I tried to contact the company to find out how to return the product. They delayed getting me the information pass the "60" (more like 45 day) trail period. I was told to return the tea, which I did. However, they never refunded my money. They took the product back and kept my money. Now there's a scam making someone rich.
Maddie, Thank you so much for your thorough research. Like others, I wish I had seen it before I ordered. However, my bait was that I was only ordering a sample for $2.35 and it would be two weeks before I was billed to give me a chance to try it out. I figured if I lost the $2.35 it would be no big deal. I don't like being taken for any amount so will cancel. For the other readers who are having trouble getting their return number of refund. This is what I do. If they do not respond within 24 hours I call my credit card company and tell them that this was a fraudulent charge. That I had tried to cancel but they would not return my emails or phone calls. The credit card puts the amount in dispute, you do not have to pay it, and then the credit card company goes after the company. If they want to continue to have the ability to take credit cards they will give you your refund or the credit card company has to deal with them. Either way, you are off the hook. Hope this helps.
Hi Maddie...wow...what a wonderful gift you have given! I too was about to press the "buy" button, but then came to my senses and continued to research this...
Thank you so much for taking the time.
Maddie Maddie Maddie!!! You rock girl and thanks for the insight! I was given a sample of Wu-yi Source tea by a coworker and while I liked the taste as well as the umm "cleansing" effect, the website looked so much like a sales pitch it may me stop and check it out first, Your research was very helpful and I have passed it on to my coworkers as well. THANKS!!
Hello to Everyone,
Maddie is correct! I went to China Town in Los Angeles, CA and bought a $10.00 bag of Wu Yi tea. You don't have to pay a lot of money for this tea. If you paid $200, you were overcharged. I have been drinking it for a about three weeks and no immediate results are evident.
Hi everyone i have like about 5 months buying and drinking wu-long and now wu-yi tea and i have no results in my weight or my appetite. I do not encoure you to buy it for easy weight loss, it does not work.
Wu-Yi Tea does not work at all. I tried it for a month now and nothing. I think i'm gaining weight instead of losing weight. I too was stupid enough to fall for the advertisement. Don't order this product, it's fake.
Thanks for the info. Even though it seemed too good to be ture, there was still that little voice in the back of my head that was wondering if it works. But now I know, so I can tell that voice to shut up! :)
I now realize how dumb i've been waisting my time and money. I was still hoping for a miracle or something like it, until i found this site. I'm so glad and i thank the person who started this. If not i think i would off still kept on buying. THANK U!
I bought the stupid stuff and a few minutes later cam across this site! Which made me feel so stupid. But i am trying to return the product now. They never answered my calls o my e-mails, so please do not order this stuff it's totally not worth it!
I has also typed in my credit card information when something in me said " Carol, do a little bit of research first." Well, good thing I did, and thanks to you, i didn't make a BIG MISTAKE. whew, that was a close one!
Hi Maddie,
I was confined to a wheelchair from meningitis for 6 years. I have regained mobility and have been out of the chair for a little over a year - but exercise is still limited and I have to be careful. I desperately want to lose 50 lbs - and yes, even with questions, I tried the tea. I have lost 5 pounds this week, using wuyi tea (yea!) HOWEVER, I have followed the directions that came with the tea - to write down everything I eat, drink 6 - 8 glasses of water each day and to eat wisely. I also put in 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day in 10 minute increments. I feel better and my clothes fit better after just one week. Is it due to the tea? Undoubtedly it is due to the combination of everything - but only because I am committed to lose this weight. I will definitely check out other sources to find a cheaper product, but I will continue with the path I am on. Even weight watchers didn't work for me, so in that sense, I say thank you wuyi diet source. They are obviousely charging too much money, but it put me on track! Thanks for your great article!
I am curious to know if anyone has used this product for an extended amount of time, and if so what was the outcome?
Yes, Thank you Maddie.
Unfortunately I didn't read your article until after I purchased the tea...thank God I only got one box and so far have only been charged for the shipping. The literature they sent stated that there was a lot more to it than just drinking the tea. Weighing out your food, keeping a diary of everything you eat. Not as easy as the website stated. When I emailed them within the 14 day period to cancel my next shipment they told me that I would be charged $37 for the box which had already been shipped?!?!? I of course emailed back that I would post on any information bulletin that they were dishonest in their dealings and so there you have it. Next time I will do a little more research!
markcustomersupport@gmail.com is where to send your cancelation request. In that email you need to give them 3 things: 1. Name 2. Order # 3. Reason for cancelation. I sent mine today- waiting for a reply. I will let you know! The number for support is 866 449 5567 option #3.
Excellent informational hub. The practices you've mentioned are common amongst many companies trying to promote products, especially health or beauty related products. I have heard of the great benefits of oolong tea, but I've yet to try any.
I'm a first time buyer and not very savvy when it comes to knowing about all of the problems. I ordered a sample of Wu-Yi for 2.35 with 14 days to cancel. Did some research after the fact and read all of the negative comments and got really scared that I had opened Pandora's Box. I called (1-866-449-5567)and cancelled the tea order before I even received it. They assured me that I would not receive another shipment but that I had to return the tea. I returned it to 2711 E. Craig Rd., E. Las Vegas, Nevada, 89030. They charged me 37.00 on my credit card, so I called again and told them to not send me another shipment and they assured me that my credit card would be reimbursed within 2 weeks. Today, I received another shipment for 57.00 dollars. I called and raised hell. Called my credit card co. to dispute the charges. Now I'm waiting to see what happens. This company is a fraud and I will be very careful if I ever order anything else on the Internet.
I ordered the product without researching, something I hardly ever do. A co-worker told me about it. I figured 2.35 was a low risk. Then read all the negatives, well duh! What should I have expected. Anywho all is not lost because i purchased it with a Visa GiftCard, so when they get ready to charge that whopping 37.00! Pow!, zero. I am making phone calls, and sending emails today to stop the charge of the gift card or them for shipping the product to me. But if all else fails, I'll only be out the 2.35 charged to the gift card because there will be nothing else on there for them to charge. Maybe they will figure that out and cancel my order all together. This is very unfortanate, those of us struggling to lose weight, should just get it together and be committed to more than a quick fix, lesson learned.
Please cancel my next shipment. Order ID 49132609-09063783-5403.
Thank you very much.
Gloria.
Gloria:
This site is in no way affiliated with any vendors of said tea. If you are looking for information on how to cancel your order with one of them, several other disgruntled customers have posted details above.
Best of luck,
Maddie
Look folks. I am sorry some of you have been ripped off but if you see some magic substance that advertises easy weight loss, IT IS A SCAM.
If you cannot exercise much then a low carb diet can allow for weight loss without a lot of heavy exercise.
However, if you are physically able then the key is to get into a good exercise and practical eating. People who starve themselves generally just gain weight back. You need to find a pattern where you allow yourself some foods you crave but also cut down on calories, fat, and increase activity.
Also, any whole food or natural style grocery stores carry just about all types of teas. Tea can give health benefits but weight loss on it's own isn't one of them.
I am glad a person put up a website to warn people about this product.
Thanks, I almost ordered it. I will buy it somewhere else.
I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CAREFUL TO LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP. AND TODAY IT HAS PAID OFF. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WISDOM AND INVESTIGATION REPORTING.
Tea did not work for me I'd like to send it back and take the charges off my card.
Karen:
I have deleted your other post to protect your privacy. For future reference, you should never post your phone number in cyberspace.
I repeat: I am not affiliated in any way with the tea company (as you can probably infer from my scathing review), and therefore cannot help with returns. Please read others' posts above to see what has worked for them in the quest to get your money refunded.
-Maddie
THANK you, Maddie!!! I was really just about to order it (and I NEVER order stuff like that online). I guess I must have had a weak moment, but something told me I should look into it some more. So thank you again for posting this!
This Item Does Not Work
I was wondering if this tea works at all for losing body weight if so, then i shall not be me anylonger muahahahahall be a re-nued half man half woman
I was reading a news article on MSNBC, and saw this large "sponsor" banner on the right side. I clicked it and got to the Wu-Li source page. Everything sounded way too good to be true, but I admit, the site is well done. A brief search led me to your site, and it's good to see that it's the same old scammer technique in a slicker package. I was so angry that MSNBC (a respectable jourlalism site) sponsored them, that I sumbitted a scathing feedback report from the bottom of their page. Once again, you expect a respected site to not HELP the fleecing of America by scammers.
I was just about to purchase this tea, but something said to investigate some more. Well I did the live chat, I asked "Ralph" was this company in the US, he said yes- Vegas. I then asked for the address and he gave me an address in MT. When I asked why did he give me an address in MT instead of Vegas he said he could not give me that address, I then said well I can't give you my money.
Wow! I love this site. I too ran across the famouse tea site & was about to order. On their web page now it states due to errors, they are continuing the free 30 day trial. All you pay is $4.95 for shipping. I almost clicked the button but then at the very bottom, in very small letters it states: After 14 days if you have not sent the tea back, your card will be charged for the amount of $37, now tell me how is that free? Then if you continue to read, you will start to recieve automated shipments, ever two months for $38 each month, plus shipping and handling. It goes on to say that you can cancel at any time but I called the customer contact number and heard a recording that says they are undergoing changes to their phone & it will be up tomorrow. She then gives an e-mail address to contact. All you can hear is Mark at something because it is not clear. After serching more on their site, I did find the address she referred to but it also gives an alternate in case you don't hear an answer. Wow, read flags all over the pace. I have ordered from on-line before but I have always ordered from companies. These specialty diet companies make me wonder, so I always try to check them out. I too have made mistakes but have tried to learn from them. Thanks Maddie for helping everyone & I hope the information I gave will continue to help others too. Again, I really appreciate your site for your honesty but most of all for giving people the facts & truth to help. Thank you.
Is there a way to shut them down?
I was suspicious of the tea from the beginning. But when I got my card out, my sister called and said the tea made her FAT! She was skinny in the beginning, but she is 47 and wants to weigh 100 again. i am a size2 and think i and want to shrink to a 00.
I just started takiun this tea about 4 days. I hope I could see the results in about two weeks. I agree with someone who said they don't have the number on it. But if you chat and ask they then could tellyou. n Bye. See ya!
OMG! I was seriously temted into purchasing their product! Then I decided to look up their claim on CNN, 60 minutes and on Oprah but with no results. Then I found this and read it XP
Thanks Maddie for saving my budget. We need someone like you to stop those scammers. You are awesome! You have saved thousands of people out there. Do you have any other websites similar like this that try to expose those scammers on other products?
Thank you
Nancy:
If you check at the top of the page, I have a link to "Diet And Weight Loss Product Reviews," where you can find my other articles on weight loss products. Some are scams, some are not. Or just click below:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Diet-Reviews
If there's any product you're particularly interested in, leave me a comment there or click the "Contact Maddie Ruud" button just beneath my picture on the top right of this page. There are just too many scams and too little time... I'm working my way through them, but if you shoot me a note about one in particular I'll put it at the top of my list.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks maddie, you saved me the trouble of running around and looking for WU YI tea, I mean, whatever next? this people cant give things a rest can they? its exploitation galore for them. I have been drinking green tea for the past 3 years, and just beginning to think I should ease off as I am beginning to develop tingly toes, now I bumped into the wuyi ad and I was just thinking 'where can I get it?' and voila! your review! I think you are simply brilliant and mindful, now I know better.... there is definitely no magic wand for slimming, other than be sensible with your food intake, exercise as regularly as possible and maitain a good weight on you, and your skin will even glow.
I can not believe I was about to waste my money on this tea!! I was JUST about to order until I saw the price and decided I better make sure I knew what I was getting into. I am so glad you are so high up in google, Maddie. You saved me a fortune - I will be visiting the heath food store! Thanks, again!
the website almost got me. i checked on google found this site (thank god!) and saved my money. i guess there is no quick fix.......
I need for you to give me an RMA number to return your tea because I believe it is making me feel ill and I also believe it is from my other medications. I am a very senior citizen and everything does not work for me.
Thanks, Adele Head
Thank you, Maddie!
I guess anything with caffeine in it boosts metabolism. The great thing about tea is that it has much less calories than coffee, chocolate or soda pop. Just plain out and out exercise, though will keep me from being nervous when confined to a desk in the office, though. Well, thank you for the money saving advice,
Deb
Can you say Better Business Bureau? Wu Yi did not work for me. I have had similar experiences as others on this website and am in the process of trying to return the tea. When I emailed customer service to cancel my order, I was sure to mention the Better Business Bureas, and I got a response overnight. I think it's time people start making complaints to the BBB.
People are so gullible in america. Hook, line, and sinker. Come on, from magic teas to the war in Iraq, people need to stop opening their purses and wallets out of fear. And then, there are people who continue to seemingly try to get a refund by posting on this site. Are you kidding me, this site is NOT affiliated with the tea company, so it can not help you with returns, duh. And then, to blame MSNBC for taking ad money from the tea company. There is a lot about to criticize the media, but for running an ad for tea is not one of them. Thanks for trying to educate people, but good luck, as people seem perfectly willing, day after day, to swallow substances much less appetizing than tea....
thanks for doing alot of research. I am a nutritionist and people are always asking me similar questions because they do not realize there is no magic pill/tea to accelerate weight loss but eating the right foods and exercising....I am always doing research like yourself; you saved me the time on this one.....many blessings. Drink tea for what it is. YES.. it CAN help you in the health department... and it MAY help you get rid of toxins... but just like all the other get slim quick methods... it DOES NOT work to get you slim quick.
Diet and exercise is the only proven way to get fit, stay fit, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Great article
I was just about to order before I came across your page. Great information. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I too was about to purchase so tea, but when I got to the credit card part, I decided to do some more research. Praise the Lord! I came across this sight. My husband would have been ticked off had this been billed to our bank account every month. Especially since it's JUST A SCAM!
I WANT TO LOSE ABOUT 15 POUNDS, I NEED TO GET UP AND STOP BEING SO LAZY AND EXCERCISE LIKE I USE TO. THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO JUST SIT AROUND AND NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT AND THEN TRY AND FIND " A QUICK FIX".
THANK YOU FOR THE WEBSITE, IT SAVED MY MONEY AND ME AND MY HUSBAND HAVING A FIGHT FOR ME BEING STUPID WITH MONEY!!!!
Good Morning, Please CANCEL ALL FUTURE ORDERS!!!
I need to cancel my order at this time, I have a family financial emergency and want to cancel any future orders before the 2 weeks trial period is up. I ordered on 11/13/07 and received trial shipment on 11/21/07.
I hope to reorder sometime in 2008.
Very thankful to have found this site, thanks to Google! You are doing a great service to people who are on the brink of being taken in by these scams and decide to do "just a bit more research" on them and in so doing....come across your site. Thank you!
HELP!! First of all....thank god for this article. I was also about to order the free trial, I had my name and address all filled in and my thought was "I wonder if it's available anywhere else at a lower price" and that's how I found this article. I have changed the way I eat and I'm exercising, I have lost 12 pounds but I would like to cut out diet drinks and was looking for something else and heard about the tea.
I was looking on Amazon.com at the Ooolong teas, there are so many to choose from. Does anyone have any recommendations on which one is the best! PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!
Like Tamm, I had filled in all the buying info, including the credit card info. I was just about to hit the buy button. I then decided to call them to see if I had read the free 14 day offer correctly, that just happens to expire today ( and every today I'd bet ). I did call and it was not as I had supposed, I then noticed that one of the side bars stated that, " We are one of the ONLY suppliers of this tea", with only being underlined. They were trying to make it look as if they were the only supplier. That is when I googled Wu-Yi fea and found you.
Thank you for the big savings, I don't like the taste of tea in the first place.
Thanks for the revealing research and advice.
Thanks for posting this. My mother, a fool who believes anything she reads on the internet or on TV, ordered this tea! I didn't realize how expensive it was as she gave it to me as something to try. I am on a diet and I do excersize, I love green tea, but am going to sell this on Ebay to see if anyone wants this silly stuff. Insanity! I can't believe she spent that much money... UGH.
i was about to order from the wuyi website but my sister said to google it to see if its a scam! and watda no... ANYWAYS, i was tryin to order it from amazon.com but am confused about which one to order: im lookin for somethin tat culd help me with weight loss, provide a cleansing of my colon and something tat doesnt have any side effects
any suggestions?
also, is there any other place i may be able to purchase such products, excluding online?
thanks~
i also have a ques. for kaydee abt the apple cider vinegar: which is a good brand to try for the weight loss recipe with the garlic and honey? i mean which kind of apple cider vinegar?
Hi Affi, I just started using BRAGGS ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR 4 DAYS AGO..I mix it with apple juice..I use two tablespoons three times a day.. I have lost some weight..do not know how much..I drink about 6 to 8 glasses of water a day..I also take 3 drops of 35% FOOD GRADE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE 3 TIMES A DAY IN DISTILLED WATER..I have not gotten on the scale yet but today..I put on a bra that I could not wear a year ago and it fits..Hallelujah! You can get braggs organic apple cider vinegar in any organic section in any major grocery store. AND IT WORKS..GO RESEARCH IT...my skin is getting much softer, my hair is much softer..my dark circles under my eyes are disappearing..I have a terrible case of keratosis pelaris all over my body but it is slowly disappearing and my skin is becoming more softer..I have energy that I cannot get from a quad of coffee..I feel great..just good old fashioned excersise with lots of water..and a ton of vitamins and nutrients and your body will love you for it. In Jesus name!!
im glad i found your site before dishing out a huge amount of money for something that is worth far far less...making money is far to easy for these people!!! they purchase tea that they prob pay a dollar for and mark it up 100% or more, that just CRAZY!!
I have purchased green tea from a chinese market and enjoy it and was doing research of teas and the benefits of drinking it when I came across the wu yi tea website that was very promising and laid out very well!!! "I wanns loose weight while drinking tea" I was near purchase when i thought i would look for some feedback from people who have tried it...THANK GOD I DID!!! Thanks for your research and I think I will still try the tea but will purchase it from a market or health food store.
I read so many sad and bad stories but didn't see anybody recommending for some legal remedy. I think you should all file a class action case against the company. Here is the link for a very famous law co.

Hi Maddie,
I have just completed reading through all the comments, from the first six months ago right up to the last four days ago. I owe it to you for not becomin victim to some complicated transaction across continents - whether or not it is a scam. I filled up all the details until the part when I was to provide credit card info, which I don't immediately have, as I hardly use credit cards except to fill up the petrol tank. Also, that would have been the first time I would make an order online - so, first times attempts are somewhat always full of uncertainties (where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise...?).
It's a noble thing that you are doing: sharing knowledge and info for nothing but for the sake of sharing. Keep up the good work. God bless you, and thanks for the great writeup - revealing, enlightening and great food for thought.
Not only did I gain insight on losing weight (the reason for accessing the site, in the first place), drinking tea and health properties teas, but also the experiences and tips through postings by others. It's good thing that I'm spending this Saturday googling (which I hardly have time for - wearing so many hats being wife, mum, career woman etc.)

Thank you Maddie. I wish there were a thousand more writers like you. The internet is full of scams and false advertising. We need more people who do research and expose the crooks.
How about one (particularly at this time of year) to expose the whole diamond industry scam. I do not just mean how they are sourced. I mean the whole cultural scam of thinking they are worth any expense, have any value or anyone should even want or "need" o

This is a great review. I see ads for this all the time on my green tea hubs. But real oolong tea is awesome. My favorite is "Tung Ting" oolong from Taiwan; it has this vaguely peachy taste, provided you don't oversteep it. (Some shoddier varieties I've tasted have added artificial peach flavoring; misses the point of subtlety altogether)
