How to add related, high-quality outbound links

  1. Insert a Link Capsule to your Hub (click on Links in the Add More Stuff box to the upper-right while in Edit mode)
  2. Scroll down and click EDIT on the Link Capsule
  3. Put in your link's URL, and press TEST LINK
  4. Add or edit the Link Title and Description
  5. Press ADD LINK when you're ready
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for each link you'd like to add (anywhere from 3 to 10 is a good rule of thumb)
  7. Click SAVE

Have you ever searched the Web for something you wanted to know a lot about? How many Webpages did you need to look at to help answer all your questions?

Depends on the topic, right? Maybe 3. Maybe 5. Maybe 10 if you're really curious. Maybe even more.

Occasionally, you'll find a page that answers everything you could possibly want to know about a subject. But, usually, it's nice to get different perspectives and more, related information on whatever you're searching.

Think about the Hubs you've written. Have they answered every possible question that a reader might have about the topic? If you're completely honest, you might admit that there are some other resources on the Web that could help interested readers learn even more about the topic.

Google and Yahoo know that most searchers will want to learn more about a topic, and it's widely speculated that Webpages with outbound links to similar resources are rewarded with better ranking than those without. Better ranking means more traffic.

At the same time, you don't necessarily want to make other resources too prominent. After all, it would be nice for readers to click on advertiser links too, right? (Google and Yahoo don't unfortunately count those as high-quality outbound links). You can always put your links at the bottom of your Hub, below your writing (and below most of the ads). That way, Google and Yahoo will know they're there, and really interested readers will eventually find them, too.

Here's an example of a Hub that puts a group of helpful, related links at the bottom for interested readers who want to learn more:
