The World's Best Antispyware Software
Wouldn't you like to know who is watching you and what they want to know?
Information is gold to many, where you go, what you buy, how you pay for it are all things some individuals will go to great lengths to obtain. Therefore antispyware software for your computing friend is a necessary precaution, especially if she's using Windows this tool is vital, not so vital if you use a Mac, actually probably unnecessary. Since each manufacturer retains their own, somewhat distinct database of spyware, we suggest you use one antispyware program to provide real-time protection and another for sporadic scans of the drive, just in case and all the programs on the list of the world's best antispyware software, below, offer both options.
All of the products below also allow you to selectively restore programs removed as spyware. Unless you're a computer expert, we recommend removing everything the program finds, except for regular cookies. Anything detected as spyware, tracking cookies, and adware should be immediately removed from a system.
Also make sure to always obtain downloaded software from the official sites listed; similar programs offered at other sites could be spyware. All of the products reviewed are also compatible with Windows Vista in case you were wondering.
Also the category, Product, shows the name of the stand-alone product and, in parenthesis, the name of the security suite that contains the same program, if available. Overall ratings combine detection ability, features included with the product, and user friendliness. The feature called Prevents changes means it prevents spyware not initially blocked from performing actions such as changing your home page and redirecting Web searches. Prevent startup indicates detection and stopping of spyware from starting automatically at boot-up. Spyware details feature indicates it provides extra guidance to help determine whether to remove a suspect item or not. Also the price indicated is for the downloadable version and includes the first year of service. The boxed versions are available for about $10 more.
•1. Trend Micro AntiSpyware (PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007) Best over all antispyware we looked at the Trend Micro product has the best detection capability of all the products, but can only bed used on one computer. Comes with all the features; including Prevents changes, Prevents startup, scheduled scans and will provide first rate details for those suspect items. This software is very user friendly for the less computer savvy individuals and all for a reasonable $30 charge, plus a $30 yearly renewal fee.
•2. Sunbelt Software CounterSpy 2 Combines about the same over all power as the Trend Micro product, only at a much more consumer friendly price of $20, with a $15 yearly renewal fee added on. It comes with all the features included with Trend Micro's software, but is slightly less efficient at detecting spyware then the Trend Micro product.
•3. F-Secure Internet Security 2007 Comes with the same detection capability as the Sunbelt product is as easy to use as either of the first two on this list and provides the same features as well. This product allows this software to be utilized on as many as three computers at once, unlike the first two on this list. The worst drawback with F-Secures product is the hefty price of $60, with a $60 yearly renewal fee, it maybe time to break the kid's piggy bank?
•4. McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 Provides adequate detection capability, all the features of the first three accept for the ability to schedule regular scans, you never forget anyway right? Like the first two on the list this software can only be utilized on a single computer, but it is extremely user friendly. Like the F-Secure product this software is expensive at $70, with a $70 renewal fee.
•5. BitDefender Internet Security 10 Provides about the same detection capability as the McAfee product, but lacks the Prevents changes and spyware details features. Very easy to use, can only be used on a single computer, and is a good choice for secondary antispyware coverage for a system. Is moderately priced compared to earlier products at $60, with a $45 renewal fee.
•6. Check Point ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware (Internet Security Suite 7.0) Many might have put this software a little higher in this list, but the Check Point product has slightly less detection ability then the first five products and it isn't the easiest to use. It does come with all the available features for this type of software and also can only be used with a single computer, but will make an affordable backup to existing antispyware on your system. The best feature of the Check Point product is the very reasonable price of $20, plus a $20 renewal fee.

Good article. I would also recommend Spyware Terminator (www.spywareterminator.com) - I have found ti easy to use and very reliable.
