A Critical consensus on iPhones have been reached by four major tech writers, Walt Mossberg from WSJ, Ed Baig from USA Today, David Pogue from New York Times, and Steven Levy from Newseek. They all say "buy the phone if you could afford it".

Walt Mossberg from Wall Street Journal, David Pogue from New York Times, Ed Baig from USA today and Steven Levy from Newsweek, did reviews yesterday for the first time a full review of an iPhone. What was their overall verdict on the iPhones; they have given it full marks and gave a consensus opinion to buy Apple's iPhone if one can afford it.

Valleywag analyzed their reviews and gave scores out of 10 in ten different categories. Each score was assigned based on the strength of a reviewer's language. For example "Beautiful" was worth 10 points and "Pokey" was worth 2 points. Walt Mossberg gave the highest score, 81 across all ten categories out of a maximum score of 100. The average score of the iPhone was 76.75, the value would have been higher if not for the sluggishness of AT&T's Edge data network. Wonder what was the main reason for Apple to choose a slower Edge network compared to other speedier 3G networks? Usually Apple is proactive but in this case they settled for a slower one.

The glass screen seems not to be a big issue here, it is able to withstand the hand touching and poking. Best thing it doesn't produce any scratches or marks. The screens are visible under bright sunlight, I can't say the same about my phone, had to go to a shaded area to see the screen sometimes.

The battery power is excellent and as advertised, the glass screen also helps in this case by drawing less power than the plastic screen counterparts.

Will you buy an iPhone based on what you have heard so far and what the above four reviewers had said about the iPhone? I am content with Treo phone for now of course with reservations, but will buy for sure in the future; it gives an experience just what one needs in a good smart phone.
